Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
I'm not just asking a y/n question, respect can mean many different things to many different people. Is it a spiritual respect? Do you believe the drug is "alive" and that you must work with it? Is it a respect born from logic and science, do you believe that you must respect all drugs equally as helpful or detrimental to society that they are just chemicals until we use them? Or is it a respect out of common sense, you don't want to fuxor yourself up and your brain by dismissing a drug.
Maybe you don't think respecting a drug is necessary, we are all on this planet for a short time and we might as well get as inebrieated and fucked as possible before our time is up "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom"
Perhaps you think this question is ridiculous and deserves a "faggot" or no response at all.
I'll refrain from commenting for now.
Thanx

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
Drugs, just like everything else require a certain amount of respect and understanding.
Treating certain drugs lightly, will only make problems for yourself.
Safety, caution and knowledge. Always have all three on mind.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
I believe that while irresponsible use of drugs can lead to addiction in some cases, all drugs have a beneficial use, even addictive substances.
What really irritates me is when people pop a pill or take a drug without doing any research on ALL of its effects or even just a general knowledge of the drug itself.
It is important to respect drugs, especially psychedelics, as they aren't simply fun and games and can lead to much deeper revelations.
I guess that's my stance on the subject in a nutshell.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
Yea, I mean, for certain drugs you gotta respect 'em. Like if you don't, then they'll fuck you over. And I mean respect as in a kind of, "Don't take it lightly, and know it's power". I've underestimated drugs before and I ended up getting fucked. But I mean, there are certain drugs and times of doing drugs where you don't need to worry about it. You don't always have to take things seriously, half the drugs out there are just about chilling out, having a good time, and not worrying, but you gotta know your limits.
What really irritates me is when people pop a pill or take a drug without doing any research on ALL of its effects or even just a general knowledge of the drug itself.
And this^. Doing that is just fucking ridiculous. If I ever hook up anyone with any type of pill, I always make sure they know what it is, the dosage of it, and what it does. Someone tried to tell me they had 30mg oxys, turns out it was codeine, also tried to tell me he had 5mg Xanax, turned out they were .25's. So I try to make sure that I don't do that to people, cause it pisses me off. So yea, that's about it.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
As with anything that has the potential to do harm (gambling, etc).. you probably don't want to just throw caution to the wind.
What really irritates me is when people pop a pill or take a drug without doing any research on ALL of its effects or even just a general knowledge of the drug itself.
Most of the people out there are just generally retarded. Their ignorance carries over into their recreational activities be it drugs or whatever. Sigh, just another part of life...

i think psycs needs respect in a deeper sense of the word, then say opiates or cocaine. sure you can od on the latter two, but you're more likely to have a good time and forget about what might be driving you nuts at that point in life. psycs on the other hand will bitch slap you. people that take them to have a good time usually get confused and scared. people that take them for introspective and spiritual exploration tend to have a blast.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
If you disrespect drugs and their uses then it's almost guaranteed the drugs will do the same to you. I try to not take them for granted even though a lot of the time I do find myself doing too many hard drugs too often. Addictive personalities and drugs (especially hard drugs) don't go together very well.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
well first of all i think you should respect anything that provides better living. Drugs are marvelous and in many ways mysterious things, that can help engage in mystery and the facets of life that we dont always pay attention to because we are dis inhibited and unenlightened. Therefore they contain a vast amount of power, power is something that commands respect whether you like it or not.
So its important to respect drugs; they can provide better living; anything with that ability deserves respect.

I agree that psychedelics need to be respected. Not doing so can lead to a very bad trip and hellish introspective experiences. But, even the worst trip (assuming your drugs are good) is over after 12 hours maximum.
Opiates and stimulants, on the other hand, can destroy years of your life. Not respecting them can lead to a severe addiction, which alienates your friends and family, sucks all of your money out of your bank account, and reduces you to a hollow shell of a person. To me, thats a lot worse than a half day long bad trip

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
I respect drugs in the same way I would respect a gun.
They are both very powerful and potentially dangerous. I would not trust a loaded .45 to someone who had never used a gun before just like I wouldn't give 10 hits of LSD to someone who had never done drugs before.
If you don't respect the drugs you're doing, you're either going to end up perma-fried or dead. It's that simple.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
It really depend on the type of drug. I know this is a bit unusual but I almost treat psychedelics as my religion. They are the only reason I even indulge in the thought of spirituality. Now, anything else is fair game to to get fucked up on. Then, it's just respecting the fact if you go too far with them it could very well be your end.

I don't respect inanimate objects
I respect Alexander Bell for inventing the telephone. I don't respect the telephone. I appreciate the telephone, I know how to use a telephone, I understand how a telephone works, I enjoy having a telephone, but I don't respect it.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
What? Your logic is flawed because you twisted the question. Don't try to sound cool by using your "amazing psychological powers", because it just isn't working for you.
I didn't twist the question and I'm not trying to sound cool.
I simply created an analogy to another inanimate object that I find useful, enjoyable, and has changed the lives of millions of people. But I did so in a way as to point out how foolish it is to respect drugs.
If you think I'm twisting the question, here is a straight forward piece by piece answer to the original post:
Is it a spiritual respect?
No. There is no god, spirit, holy energy, or anything else.
Do you believe the drug is "alive" and that you must work with it?
No, I'm not insane.
Is it a respect born from logic and science
Such as? I respect the people that have used science and logic to develop, manufacture, and research drugs.
do you believe that you must respect all drugs equally as helpful or detrimental to society
Ok, that's not even really a sentence but I'll work with it.
No, I don't believe I should respect all drugs equally.
Read this article on the front page - What is a drug? (https://www.totse.com/en/drugs/legal_issues_of_drug_use/whatisadrug191905.html)
Do you respect lifting weights? We're not talking about people who lift weights, the self discipline required to lift weights, the benefits of lifting weights, the fact that you are physically able to lift weights, or anything else. We're talking about the act of raising large objects of metal up and down.
If you respect that then you should also respect running, walking, eating, sleeping, laying in the grass, the birds, the trees, the water, and so on. On which case its not really lifting weights you respect but life and the universe itself. If you respect everything then respect means nothing. There is no longer anything special about it.
Sure you can accuse me of trying to sound cool with psychological hippie bullshit. But if that's the case then you've just proven my point. You imply that what I say doesn't make any sense, but my point is that it doesn't make any sense to respect drugs or anything else that's void of independent thought. The absurdity you feel towards the idea of respecting a telephone is the same absurdity I feel towards respecting drugs.
that they are just chemicals until we use them?
Drugs are chemicals before we use them, while we use them, and after we use them.
Different chemicals react differently with the chemicals in our bodies and they create unique effects in our brain.
Why respect certain chemicals like LSD while ignoring other chemicals like petroleum, super glue, or
the food coloring Yellow 5?
is it a respect out of common sense, you don't want to fuxor yourself up and your brain by dismissing a drug.
That's not respect at all, that's caution.
I don't want to "fuxor" myself up by dismissing the proper use of a toaster oven and burning my hands, or by dismissing the dangers of a power outlet by sticking a fork in there.
Maybe you don't think respecting a drug is necessary, we are all on this planet for a short time and we might as well get as inebrieated and fucked as possible before our time is up
We're only on this planet for a short time and we should enjoy it however we see fit. Personally I don't find the prospect of heroin withdraws and DXM overdoses to be too enjoyable. So I'll exercise caution and understanding when dealing with potentially dangerous objects.
I mean respect as in a kind of, "Don't take it lightly, and know it's power".
Again, that's not respect. Its caution and commonsense. All it shows is that you have an IQ at least above room temperature.
you gotta know your limits.
I agree, but that has nothing to do with respect and everything to do with commonsense.
If I ever hook up anyone with any type of pill, I always make sure they know what it is, the dosage of it, and what it does.
I agree, same comment as above.
RosettaStoned, you and I agree on the subject matter. I believe I just addressed the matter in a way you found unclear.
It all depends upon how you define respect. I would define it as Wikipedia does as "Respect is esteem for, or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability." The more colloquial use of the word respect means to hold in high regard or importance. Best example would be "I respect the speed limit." The speed limit hasn't accomplished anything, its not even real. Its just a number that dictates the velocity of which my vehicle can travel. How do you respect something that's not even real? I do however consider it important, because if I disobey it then I get a ticket.
In short, this was just a very long explanation about why respecting drugs is the same as respecting a telephone and why both are ridiculous. Of course what it really comes down to is arguing semantics over the definition of the word respect. Because virtually all the users here would agree that to "respect" drugs is to treat/approach them with safety, caution and knowledge. When reading through these posts I didn't see the word respect and think that the user believed that drugs are alive and they have to work with them.
My post about how respecting drugs is stupid was directed to the same audience that the original post was directed at. Of course 99% of people agree that taking random drugs with no idea what they are or how they work is stupid. This thread was directed at (or so I assumed) the 1% of people who respect drugs for reasons beyond common sense. Among that 1% is the people who take random drugs and don't know what they are, the people who think drugs are "alive", and the people who think drugs are a gateway to speaking to god or some other nonsense.
A thread wouldn't be very interesting if the subject was "Everyone capable of typing a response post here."
A more interesting thread would be "Everyone incapable of typing a response post here." At which point users would post about how their hands were amputated and they use voice recognition software to post. Or perhaps they're paralyzed and their significant other types responses for them. That's why I assumed the thread was directed at the 1%. Its objective was to hear the voices of a small minority of drug users, people everyone else would call crazy. But like the chances of someone actually having their significant other post on totse for them because of paralyzation, the chances of a "crazy" posting in the thread is also very slim. Hence this thread was destined for failure from the start and now consists of users saying the same old thing that everyone already agrees on.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
yes i have learned on more than one occasion that the minute you don't respect something it will bit you in the ass....
klonopin... "oh ill just take 3, worst case scenario i black out" i think i ended up taking another in the blackout that ensued.... the entire night was gone with the exception of bits and pieces... i said some things i would have rather not said to family....
Salvia.... ive told the story, i did it while camping and stepped into the fire....
Alcohol.... "im gonna get trashed" a few good swallows a few times off a handle, 5 beers, and a bowl later my entire body is feeling buzzy. not just like a few drinks type of buzz, just like a physical feeling of buzzing... im sitting down because i have had so much i can not stand on my own.... and i decide to smoke a cigarette.... that was about when things started to go downhill fast... nausea hit me and i just started puking and did not stop for a while.... started to pass out, 3 people dragged me inside and up a flight of stairs to a toilet where i puked some more... then after a while they helped me to a matress on the floor and let me collapse on it, someone got me a bottle of water and told me to drink it all before i passed out and i got through most of it and they left me laying on my side.... sometime later i puked over the side of the mattress and passed out again... I woke up 10 hours later in a daze, the hangover had not quite sunk in for some reason, and i stumbled out the back door to get in my car... went home and puked, told my parents i was sick, and passed out again... then suffered through a 36 hour hangover.... any more alcohol that night and i would have been dangerously close to alcohol poisoning....

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
I respect drugs in that sense that I know what they can do, when I should do them, what the effects would be...overall just things that prevent me from eating tabs every Friday night. I prefer to save heavier things like LSD, MDMA, shrooms, etc for special occasions when I know I'll get something rewarding out of it and won't have to worry about anything.
I have a friend who treats acid like it's crack and he's a fiending crackhead. He texted me at least five times tonight asking for various peoples' numbers who he thought might have doses, just because he wanted to rent a hotel room and trip sack on a Monday night. That's the kind of stuff that pisses me off, when people don't have a proper respect for drugs and for themselves.

I don't respect drugs. I slap them around, stick my finger in their ass, tape it and host it on youtube.
But yeah, red dye #40 totally has my respect.
Seriously though, I respect LIFE, and that my friends, is what it's all about.

Respecting drugs means acknowledging that they can be dangerous if misused.
You respect drugs in the same way that you respect guns, not in that you admire them, but that you realize their potential danger if misused.

EDIT: My ramblings may have been long, but they weren't semi coherent. Speed has that effect where I get distracted for long periods of time and end up writing unnecessarily long posts when I should be working.

Re: Do you think it's important to respect drugs?
I respect drugs, and i respect myself. I always find out what a drug will do to me before i do it, and i make sure i'm in control of how much control i loose.
