Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Lightbulb Alcohol Prohibition By Choice!

I think if someone wants to quit drinking but keeps finding themselves at the liquor store, they should be able to file an application to put a certain mark on their drivers license that says to not sell them alcohol. and once they get that, to undo it they have to go through the same process. Then people could quit drinking, same with cigarettes. If a person were to file an application to prohibit themselves from being sold such things, they would almost be forced to quit. And of course make it illegal to sell to them or buy for them if they chose that road in the first place. I would be the first one to sign up.

Since you wouldn't answer me in IRC about this:

What benefits does this offer over will power? And how does it prevent someone from getting alcohol? Need I remind you, most alcoholics have at least one friend who would buy them liquor. But, then again, if they still wanted to drink, WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS SHIT IN THE FIRST PLACE??

You fucking new arrivals are all the same.

Strangers shouldn't have to pay for YOUR lack of personal responsibility.

What do those without a drivers license do?

And people still manage to find pot, smack, x, charlie, horse and crank despite prohibition. What difference can be made with alcohol?

I think the idea that the State should have the responsibility of preventing you from making bad choices is a bad direction to go in. This thread belongs in P:LRC, though.

Does this mean you would be in favor of ending the War on (some) Drugs?

Actually they have a program like this for gambling addicts at the riverboat casino near me. You register your name and after doing so if you try to enter the casino you will be arrested.

And they already kinda have a program like this for alcohol. It's a medication called antabuse that makes you physically ill if you consume alcohol.

There's a difference between responsibility and power. What he's saying is the government should be able to boss you around, tax you, shit all over you, and make you do whatever they want, but when you need their help it's not their "responsibility" to help you.
