Do you think in todays society, are "metro" or "manly men" (for a lack of a better word) are more popular among women?

Just for those who might be hazy with the terms:

Metro
Takes pride in his dress sense
Follows Fashion
Jewelry (maybe a ring or dog tags)
Takes pride in his hair, typically gelled
Always clean shaven, some metros can pull of stubble
Most circumstances, not what you would really call muscley
Pretends to care about feelings if he thinks it will get him laid

"Manly Man"

Usually stubbled facial hair
Usually a "rough" demeanor
Doesn't pretend to care about womens feelings or issues
Does not follow the latest trends or fads what-so-ever
Always going to "hang out with the guys". And hangs out with guys way more so than girls
Jewelry is for women
Just typically all around a more masculine demeanor


Personally, if you had to categorize me, in a social setting (clubbing / at a party) I'd consider myself to be a metro more than anything.... I actually seem to be an obscure mixture...

But I was wondering, what do women in general find more appealing?

Can I get a little of both? I like my men to be masculine, and its weird if he puts more time into his appearance than I do. But the 'manly man' grunting barbarian stereotype is not appealing in the least. I guess I like men who can take care of themselves physically without being womanly about it, and men who can relate to me on an emotional and personal level without being some nancy boy or meathead.

i would have to say a little mixture of both...leaning more towards the metro side. i personally don't want a guy who doesn't give two shits about my feelings. but then again...i'm definitely not plucking his effing eyebrows or tucking in the tag to his man thong. there is such a thing as a happy medium. manly men with a sensitive side? yes please.

these are the ones i would highlight from both lists. minues the gelled hair...just take care of your hair. greasy hair or REALLY long hair is SUCH a turn off.

Also, ident tags are NOT jewelry. I swear I've made it my personal vendetta to punch everyone wearing dog tags. Let me tell you something. Soldiers don't wear ident tags when they're out of combat. They're not cool. They're used for identifying your blood type and RH factor in case you get shot, and your religion in case a doctor ain't enough to save you. If you aren't cool enough to be getting shot at, don't wear the fucking thing.

Next time you're around a base, hit up the local bars. Look at how many soldiers wear theirs. They don't. It's not middle school. Pretending you're a delta force so you can get laid isn't what real men do.

On a side note, Canada, like always, managed to fuck up ident tags. They've got "DO NOT REMOVE" written on the back of the primary. Really. Maybe I'll need an instructional video to learn to put on my boots...

I would be a mix of the two, while I do take pride in what I wear, I wear manly things, blazers, dress shirts, etc., Somewhat muscular, i'm very competitive.

You can't be something you're not.
Some people are naturally inclined to be clean shaven and expensively dressed and immaculately groomed.

Others are naturally inclined to shave once a week, not give a damn what they wear, etc.. I know I'm naturally inclined to have somewhat of a beard, spend pennies on the dollar for clothes, drive a overpowered pickup truck etc..

While others are not. Everyone knows a middle class kid who spends every last dollar he has trying to look insanely rich. People will see through that.

- People who label themselves with subcultures are fags

I like the nonchalant attitude of guys who just act like 'guys' but the behaviour of metro's is also something desired. Most 'manly men' I know are into football, drink too much beer and take 'I don't give a shit' to all aspects of their life, including the one that this philosophy shouldn't be applied to- the relationship.

On the otherhand, metro's can overtake the female role of the relationship, too much caring about everything, all the time, everytime is just a huge, distracting annoyance. Sometimes you just need someone to tell you to shutup and get in his arms instead of talking to you about your problems.

If I had to take the lesser of two evils, I'd probably take the metro though.

Women seem to like me a lot. I don't really try, and I don't really care what others think of me. I just be myself, let my humorous side shine through, and women fall all over me. I am pretty good looking, but I don't wear expensive clothes, drive an expensive vehicle, I have a pretty average job, and my apartment is far from special. Honestly, my living room is just a couch, a 47" projection, xbox, stereo/ipod dock, my laptop, and that's it. Not even a coffee table. My laptop is sitting on a deep fryer box, lol. That went off course a bit, but I'm high. Really, the only reason women like me at all is that I have a dominating personality. I stick out like a sore thumb. My body language projects that I'm happy with my life. See everyone is trying to achieve happiness in their life. Most try and pretend to be happy, but they usually are just combing over the bald spot, so to speak. So when someone sees someone truly happy with their life, they try and mimic it, and try to be around those similar, in the hopes it will make them happy. personally i go for manly men. i like my guys to be able to hold their own in a wilderness setting, be able to shoot a gun, can use most power tools, and who has never put any kind of "product" in their hair.
