Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
I here a lot shit on this site coming from both the men and women here about what they expect in a relationship regarding sex. Most of it I find to be rediculous, and if you really love the person, you're setting yourselves up for failure, which is what the other threads are usually about. So lets create a code of rules for relationships as a guide for people to keep themselves and their partners happy. This is only dealing with sex right now, but maybe a large set of rules could be created and unified over time.
One big thing that can't exist and both partners should come to terms with is Jealousy. This ruins relationships, as it often pushes your partner to the people you're Jealous about. Once you read more about the rules and conduct I suggest, it'll be clear why jealousy cannot exist in healthy relationship. I do recognize their is reasonable jealousy, but when it starts controlling your behavior, there will be problems.
Here is a short list of rules that my wife and I have adopted.
The main theme is compromise, and be reasonable about it. Your purpose in a relationship is to make your partner happy, and to be happy. No particular order here.
1. Fidelity. Most people don't see any option but monogamy. This can be good, but it's also a relationship ender if certain criteria can't be maintained. One thing that has to go hand and hand with monogamy, is that you have to satisfy your partner within reason. Some things you can set in stone, and others should be written in the sand as you travel through life. (a) Establish a minimum for sex. I find 2-3 is reasonable, as most people can handle 1-2 days without sex, but make your own number as some people need more or less. (b) What you're willing to do in the bedroom. This may change as years pass and monotony drives new experiences, but be clear about what you're comfortable with, and don't freak out if asked to do something you aren't sure about, discuss. It could cause some problems if you find out your husband/wife has an anal fetish, and it repulses you. (c) If fidelity isn't for you, decide on rules of engagement with other partners with regards to respecting your partner and their health. Be clear about this if you don't believe in fidelity, although sometimes this evolves over time.
Rules of broken contract. Life isn't what you think it should be all the time, accept this. (a) You don't want sex anymore, or less than once a week or bi-weekly. Your partner might not like this, and you are going to have to compromise to make them happy, even if it means a third party. However, if you didn't have reasonable cause to want less sex, you can't get your own second partner unless its mutually decided. Your partner should let you though if no other options are available. Living in contempt for lack of sex equals divorce, or they'll just cheat on you and destroy your trust, which also equals divorce. (b) Possibly you or your partner have developed new tastes. This could be a range of fetishes. If you don't wish to take part or your partner isn't willing, you or your partner should weigh your willingness against letting the other person engage with a third party. Make the decision while keeping in mind that you should keep each other happy in life. (c) If you've decided that you want to be in an open relationship and then retract later, you're breaking the contract. You may find a compromise in this situation through discussion and it might not be a big deal to your partner, or you may have to live with them continuing to have other partners.
2. Third party partners. When choosing a third party partner, you must give respect to your current relationship. They must recognize that you are in a relationship, and not play any malicious role in trying to break that union down. I suggest against prostitutes, as well as random women or men from the bar. Your partners should be comfortable with each other, and a contract of non-competition should be agreed on. Essentially that means that is the third party breaks the rules, they have to leave, respecting the original union.
PS. These rules might sound funny, but I have implemented them in my own relationship with great success. My fiance and I ran into a catch in our own relationship. After about a year or so my fiance started having problems with swelling around her pubic area after sex. I'm not bragging, but my penis size actually strained the muscles over time, rendering it impossible for her to have sex with me more than once a week, or two. I need it 3 times a week at least, and usually masturbate on the off days. She needs it more than once a week too, but she can't handle it with me too often. We came to an agreement that we both needed a third party partner, but that we love each other to much to separate. We are both currently looking for partners, and aren't jealous or upset about it, since we can't fix it anyways. She's met a nice guy she works with, and I'm going to start seeing one of her friends. Most likely our new room mate will become a second wife to me, and I'll live with both of them. There will be some added complication with the second wife as I'll probably have a couple kids with her as well as my current wife in a few years time. Even when we used to just hang out, I gave lots of affection to both of them, and neither felt short-changed or jealous of the other. The only rules that I made with my wife is that any guy that fucks her must respect her and that our relationship is primary. The worst thing that could happen is her leaving, which is what the other option was anyways. It's strange, but its keeping the peace and we're both happy again.

I stopped reading here. You're an idiot if you think that you need to schedule sex.

I'm pretty sure he didn't mean that you're supposed to get out a calendar or a day planner and plan out the next few weeks of sex with your significant other...
He just means that there should be a certain minimum in order to prevent infidelity.
I think that it's perfectly reasonable to expect a certain amount of sex in a relationship. If the other person stops putting out, then I'd say that's fair grounds for a break-up/divorce.
And, sadly, many people would even go so far as to resort to infidelity since they're too lazy to just bring it up with their s/o or to break up with them.

I agree. You can't say: "we're going to fuck 3 times a week, k?" It's just something that either happens, or it doesn't.
And I think fidelity is something that has to be discussed. Both people just have to have the same wants and desires regarding a monogamous relationship.

Are you actually serious? Attitudes like that is why the divorce rate is 50%. Do you not realize you're in competition for the same men as women who would put out daily, which one do you think I would pick? Until my wife started having her problems, we had sex every day.

I've read your posts, your that feminist bitch who doesn't want any kids. You're not wife material, and you sound like a loser if you don't believe your genetic material is good enough to pass on to the next generation. Your other posts, plus this one only illustrates that your the typical modern day selfish bitch who figures men should bend to their will, and then acts stupid when they fuck your best friend.

I think nationalist pigs who think its their duty to populate the motherland are idiots.
And I think people who believe the sole purpose a women should have is to be wife material are idiots.
note: I'm not defending eggs. The part about her being selfish bitch was pretty much spot on.

There is no non-arrogant way to say this other than the regular rules that apply to most people don't apply to me. I have every single thing going for me except money and celebrity status. There are very few women out there who won't sleep with me. Every single one of my fiance's friends has already asked her to sleep with me. However, I've been completely faithful in my relationship despite it being incredibly easy for me to get laid. Recently, it has just gotten to the point where I just wasn't getting enough and my fiance and I decided to make a compromise. Honestly, most of you women out there will never have to worry about your men, because they probably can't do better. My fiance lets me have special privileges because I've treated her like gold throughout our entire relationship. I've helped her overcome most of her problems in life, and she benefits highly by being with me despite our problem. She wants to have my children and so do I. She's willing to live with this abnormal relationship because it actually isn't detrimental to her happiness despite what most would think of the situation. Trust me, if more people were like me, you'd probably have a lot more faith in humanity.

I'm from Canada, but I'm not the typical Canadian, so don't judge the rest. I'm not Christian either, I have my own beliefs. Sure, I do judge people, but so do you. Do you have contempt for yourself as well? I will say it's true though. Most young women these days think they don't have to do shit and men should do everything for them. I'm for sharing responsibilities, not this woman dominance shit. Men need to grow a set and at least become equals, it's fucking disgraceful. In my life my wife and I have assumed roles that are half traditional, and things work out great.

Mind elaborating on what is particularly wrong with this thread?
Same goes with the rest of you criticizers..
So compromise in a relationship is suddenly a bad thing...?

It's not just this thread. I just don't see the point in getting married, making a commitment to someone, if you can't be satisfied with them. I constantly see in his posts a HUGE emphasis on sex in a relationship. I'm not saying sex isn't important. Sex is great, but I don't think it should make or break a relationship.
No where did I ever say compromise in a relationship is a bad thing, so I can't see how you drew that conclusion. You took a random idea from his post and turned my vague post into something against that. If he can critisize a faithful relationship, I don't see how you can say I can't critisize an open relationship. Some people can be happy with one person and some people can't. Either way, no one will ever be "right". We'll both live the way we want. I don't ever have to deal with this person!
And about other men not being able to do better? You may be right. You might be the sexiest, most caring, trusting, honest man alive. But arrogance ruins it all.

I'm hardly a feminist, but I'll be damned if I end up sitting at home all day playing housewife while my husband is out doing whatever it is he'll be doing.
I don't have a problem with sex, I just think it's fucking retarded to plan it. Shit, I wanted sex more than my ex did when we were together.
Your other posts, plus this one, illustrate that you're the typical modern day selfish asshole who expects women do submit to his beck and call, then acts stupid when they don't want to fuck him.

I don't think it should break or make a relationship either, but it does. Theres a saying," When sex is good, it's 10% of a relationship. When sex is bad, it's 90% of the relationship." Usually people who are satisfied with what they're getting never think sex plays a huge role. Sexual tension has it's way of complicating every other aspect of your relationship real quick.
I never said there is anything wrong with monogamy. If I could find a hot nymphomaniac that could handle my dick all the time and satisfy my fetishes, I would never ever wander. Up till now, I've been completely faithful even though I've been given many opportunities. My GF and I are doing this because we don't want to leave each other just because we can't give each other everything we need. That's true love.
Honestly, I'm not anything that any other man couldn't achieve. Sure maybe my looks are above average, and I'm a little smarter than most, but really my sexual abilities lie completely with my enthusiasm and some knowledge. The knowledge can be learned and enthusiasm is about the right attitude. I treat every women like they're the most beautiful thing on earth, cause I truly believe that. I always make it about my partners enjoyment, and so can any other guy. I'm only awesome because other guys won't go out of their way to learn how to please their partner better.

We obviously aren't going to see eye to eye on that. You do what you do. I said the way you think makes me lose faith in people because I feel like too many guys think with their dicks. I just hope my fiance doesn't turn out to be that way. If he wants a "hot nymphomaniac" one day I believe that's what he should go get. And you too. It's pretty messed up though that it would take that to make you not wander. And your ego is digusting.

Re: Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
No, my name isn't Branden.
Maybe I come off as an egotistical asshole, but it's not really true. Recently I swallowed my pride and put aside my jealousy so that my fiance could leave me guilt free and without emotional trauma, to find a new guy that will take care of her needs, and doesn't have our incompatibility problem. I'm still taking care of her while she's starting to see this new guy that seems to fit her a little better. I love her more than anything in the world, but we just aren't the same kind of people and I want her to be happy. I guess that's just the self-centered jerk that I am. We're still going to remain friends in the end, no hard feelings at all. I'm still sad as hell that I won't fall asleep and wake up in her arms ever again soon.
I'm not worried to much about myself. I'll probably just play the field for the next couple years in the search for that hot crazy nympho to be the yin to my yang.

Ease off gadzooks, she probably actually does like me quite a bit because I challenge her reality and push her buttons, and isn't that what all women want?
Honestly, if she met me in person she'd probably be so upset with my ideas she'd argue with me passionately for hours until we're both so horny that we'd fuck each others brains out.
You want to seriously know how to keep a marriage going forever. It's off topic, but I started this thread anyways.
Women work on emotions, they feed off of them and require a range of emotional stimulus. They like to get mad, happy, sad, jealous, etc...
Men, we like problems we can solve rationally, they keep us going in life. Now take what we like and look at women's wants rationally as they only want emotional stimulus. Now you see women as a rational problem of irrational need for emotional stimulus. Now that you can rationalize this, make it your problem to find ways to stimulate her, and you'll make her happy for life. Women just have to keep wanting that stimulation and they'll give men a rational problem for life, giving us guys happiness. Yin and Yang at it's finest.

Didn't quite go that way lol. You see unlike easeoflife this guy didn't let that side of his personality show, so I'll give him credit for that much. I liked him a lot until I found out the way he was. I wanted to get serious with him, but it never got to that, thank heaven. I call him simply a fuck because it never really got past that other than him being a really good friend.
In reality, I'm not nearly this passionate about little things. I save all my energy for big things that piss me off and THEN I go to town on people. It's naive but I don't like to think of being cheated on again. I guess thats why all your posts disgust me so much ("god's gift to women" ego's kind of gross too but whatever). If my fiance wanted someone else so much I'd let him but he couldn't have me too.
And I'm not the kind of girl who likes to fuck or even talk when I'm pissed. I like to drive

The point is, you had sex with someone you obviously didn't know very well. Which means that you're just as controlled by your sex drive as men are. So do not go around talking about guys thinking with their dicks.
It makes you sound like a glaring hypocrite.
It's naive but I don't like to think of being cheated on again.
The point is that if you're a decent girlfriend, then you won't get cheated on. And it's not very hard to do that.
And this does not exclusively apply to males. You really think that women don't cheat nearly as much as men? You're sexist. That's why you come off as an ignorant bitch.

Dumbass.
Can nobody read between the fucking lines anymore?
At least you're not the only one in this thread who just can't seem to grasp the concept properly.
There are no set fucking numbers involved. Just put out regularly, or don't be too surprised if you get dumped or cheated on.
And this applies to both men and women!
Women cheat on men ALL THE FUCKING TIME if they aren't being sexually satisfied.

Re: Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
The OP is a child.
Did you come up with that on your own, or did you get help from " One liners for dummies"?
I don't think most people completely understand my point either. It's simple. Keep your partner happy or be ready and willing to compromise in order to Keep them.
I'm just saying that its best to be open about this part of a relationship right from the beginning. If you don't think so, enjoy shitty surprises for the rest of your life.

No, you're not saying any of that. You're too busy trying to drown everyone else in your pool of self-wankery.

Re: Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
My girl and I schedule sex.
Everytime we see each other.
:)
When we couldn't see each other because of conflicting schedules we actually planned to meet up and fuck.
That's different than saying "Honey, don't forget, come straight home from work tomorrow so you're not late for our 6 o'clock fuck session."

Re: Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
You're the one who's a dumbass. It doesn't matter how many times you have sex with them. If you're not satisfying you're partner when you do have sex they will cheat on you.
And you're the one who doesn't grasp it. Go look at the op's rules again. The first one says to agree with you're partner on a certain amount of times you should have sex. This sounds like a set amount, or number to me.

Yeah, that is also true.
If you don't put out, or if you are shitty in bed, then you risk getting cheated on.
Thus the point of this thread.
And you're the one who doesn't grasp it. Go look at the op's rules again. The first one says to agree with you're partner on a certain amount of times you should have sex. This sounds like a set amount, or number to me.
Do you take everything you read literally? Maybe there's a deeper point here to understand.

Re: Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
For those who lack reading comprehension:
easeoflife is pretty much saying that you need compatible sexuality, a balance of rationale and emotionalism between male and female, and a healthy level of compromise to make a relationship work.
Putting his ego aside, he's spot on. As to his ego, quit bitching...like you fucks don't have one? Arrogance is just the lighter side of pride...your self-pity and fear is just as fucking disgusting.

Re: Rules of engagement, rules for a lasting relationship.
The point is, you had sex with someone you obviously didn't know very well. Which means that you're just as controlled by your sex drive as men are. So do not go around talking about guys thinking with their dicks.
It makes you sound like a glaring hypocrite.
The point is that if you're a decent girlfriend, then you won't get cheated on. And it's not very hard to do that.
And this does not exclusively apply to males. You really think that women don't cheat nearly as much as men? You're sexist. That's why you come off as an ignorant bitch.
You're entiled to your opinions. If that's what you think of me fine.
This was a good friend, liked him a lot, turned out he led a double life. No where have I ever said women don't cheat, they can be just as shitty. In fact the one person who cheated on me more than anyone in my life was a woman- excuse me, a girl. They can think with the wrong end just as men can. However I don't need to worry about a relationship with a woman getting married and all now do I? So if I sounded sexist, I apologize.
Whether I'm a decent girlfriend has nothing to do with being cheated on. You can put someone on a fucking pedestal and they'll still cheat on you. Apparently here though, being cheated on would be MY fault if I didn't put out enough? I sure hope that's not reality. If it is I guess I just have to just open my legs and close my eyes.

This isn't just about preventing cheating. It's about being a decent boyfriend/girlfriend.

All the rules being about sex. Whatever works, I don't feel like going back and forth anymore.

Some people are just dogs and will fuck anything, and you can't change them. My thread isn't about people like that, but people who want monogamy, and the issues with monogamy. It's not just quantity, but also quality. However, if you have little sex with your partner they will look elsewhere, despite everything else being good.
You're little, "I guess I just have to just open my legs and close my eyes." comment disturbs me. Do you not like having sex? You make it sound like something you have to put up with. You've obviously have never been fucked by someone who knows what they're doing, if that's the case.

Nah the sex is awesome and I really like sex- just not as often as him. I said that hypothetically. I'd rather let him do whatever he wants on those days where I don't feel like it if it means he won't go somewhere else for it. That's all. Can't change the world I live in, might as well deal with it.
And just because I have different opinions than others, doesn't mean I can't read. Just because I disagree with someone doesn't mean I don't have a brain.
