My dad gets shit faced drunk off vodka every night. Has anyone ever had any experience with getting someone to stop?

It's unfortunately true. Unless you try to corner an alcoholic (Not recommended, mind you.), you cannot confront them about their addiction. My mom's an alcoholic too, and I'm afraid the best plan I've come up with is to wait it out, and leave her in the dust.

I'm an alcoholic, and my best advice is, there's not much advice. It's very similar to telling a heroin junkie to stop using. The only difference is that it's legal, and thus, much easier.

Intervention...

Try to subdue him with violence first... Just live the poor guy alone and let him drink. Hes obviously down on his luck and it this point its up to him if he wants to do differently.

You could allways say "well you're setting such a great impression, I think I may start too!" and proceed to get shitfaced with him.

That would get to a few parents, I think, watching their child deliberately fuck themselves up because of their actions.

Allthough it might not. If he's that much of an ass, just let him be and let him drink himself to death.

There is a lot of truth in what Yoyo says. Don't forget I'm a litre and a half of whiskey a day dad when the mood takes me.

I let my kids drink and always have but its with a lot of warnings and reminders that one drink is fine. Same with cannabis.

"Do you want to end up like me, sitting in a pool of your own piss shaking with fear at the demons coming out of the wall?" is a frequent comment.

How do you get a family member to stop drinking?
