Default So I stumbled onto the craigslist divorce forum

Even though I always felt marriage wasn't for me, that really opened my eyes. What is in it for the men when it comes to marriage these days? I took the following essay from a link that I found.

http://www.dont-marry.com/

The article isn't 100%, but it is mostly accurate. It boils down to the fact that there is no real upside to getting married if you are a man, yet there is a huge financial advantage to getting married if you are a woman (because, in general, women are not the primary wage recipient and those that do have good jobs usually end up marrying other rich dudes anyway).

Why are 70% of divorces initiated by women? Because Men know they are stuck in a relationship (which they may well hate, somehow when your wife puts on 120 pounds after childbirth it is wrong if you just can't wait to get home and fuck her every night) where they can't leave because they would get ruined in a divorce court. Modern women expect so much from their partners (you only have to pick up cosmo or equivelent to know this) that no man will ever live up to expectation.

Guys, get the message: Marriage is an outdated institution unfairly slanted in favour of women. Young women of today, I hope in 15 years time when men refuse to get married it isn't us you blame it is your greedy single mother who probably ruined your fathers life for 5 years before the divorce and 10 after.

Am I doing it right?

Your summary at the end of your post is a good one now that it's all wrapped up neatly. I'm personally not considering marriage at any point in my future. May change in years to come when I meet someone but nonetheless - I think we're going to start seeing a trend-shift in today's culture where marriage/being tied down to one person will lose a bit of the appeal it holds currently. My 2c.

That's a benefit.

All it's needed for the marriage to stop massively sucking is a divorce benefits reform. It's obvious to everyone who has more than 5 functional neurons that the benefits are currently slanted excessively towards women. Rework the laws towards a truly fair and balanced redistribution (but none of that wine bottle business), and things will get better.

There are two things I believe.

1) A paternity test should automatically be done, whenever a child is born in a hospital. Standard protocol. The guy shouldn't have to make a special request and make it all awkward.

2) Prenuptials agreements should be included in all marriage vows, again...standard issue. You shouldn't have to bring up a big issue, it should just be a part of the procedure.

I'm pretty against marriage myself. Hell, even the Romans believed marriage to be a political/economic enterprise and accepted it as the end of passionate, romantic love.

Besides, I've recently been introduced (via the movie Dopamine--a great sappy Sundance romance) to the theories of serial monogomy (the idea that we are geared for monogamy, biologically, for a period that persists as long as it takes to make sure the offspring can survive with only one parent caring for it).

Honestly, that sounds most sensible and realistic for me.

At the same time, I like the idea of finding someone I could be with for the rest of my life... I just don't know how realistic it is.

That is bullshit

But unfortunately it happens

Ever notice how the husband gets practically nothing out of a divorce. Its like they punish the man for getting married. It's like " how dare you marry the woman you love and let her divorce you!"

Aren't women nowadays demanding equal treatment?

This doesn't seem very equal to me. Yet if they ever tried to change it, every feminist group in the entire fucking country would lobby against changing it.

Quoted for motherfucking truth!

There is no fucking way I'm ever going to sign a marriage agreement in my lifetime. If she threatens to leave me if I don't, she can get the fuck out, because it's obvious what she's up to. This bullshit sense of entitlement among American women is out of control. A relationship is 50-50, not "I'm going to sit on my ass and spend your money while the kids are at school and you're working your ass off". FUCK THAT. I'd rather die than let some harpy steal everything I've worked my entire life for.

Well played, sir.

Divorce rates are about 50%, so you more less flip a coin as to whether or not you'll get completely screwed. No thanks.

Well that, and you absolutely cannot tell how it'll be in 5-10 years, or less, how the person you married will act like, or if you'll get along anymore.

Smart people don't take a 50/50 chance with everything they've ever worked for, without any real benefit for taking that chance. Marrying someone isn't going to make them love you any more. So, basically, you stand to lose everything or gain nothing. Explain to me how that's a good decision?

Fair point, but still, don't you even feel the least bit attracted to the thought? I prefer the idea of stability, rather than fucking as many girls as possible, then crashing at about 35, to die alone.

Plus, I don't believe marriage is a trap set by all women to lure a man in to steal everything he has.

I won't lie, yes the idea of marriage and such stability does attract me at times. The problem to me lies that in it can end up too easily, far too unfairly, and the guy gets screwed. I like the idea of marriage, but not such lopsided risks to it.

I don't think it's a trap either, of course, no one (except gold diggers) gets married planning to divorce, but should it end up that way for whatever reason (and many do), it's really unfair and becomes a trap.

So no, I don't see it as a trap at all, but if the wrong/selfish intent is there, it can become one way, way too easily and severely, which is why I'm wary on it. Not against marriage for its ideals, but against shit divorces. I've see guys get suckered in by 'well if anything happens you wouldn't want me not being able to live, would you?" and it actually working. If she decides to cheat/wants out, all bets are off, and I could really care less what happens, as long as I don't get financially raped.

A former millionaire is now living in my apartment building, because his wife divorced him (married another millionaire now, if that says anything), but he drank/partied/spent away nearly everything so 'that greedy bitch' couldn't take what wasn't hers and she didn't earn. He gets major man points from me for that, but it's crap that he ended up at that point, and that the system couldn't or wouldn't do anything to protect him.

This can be done by mutual agreement. You can live your whole life with a chick without marrying her. It won't make you not fuck others. At the end of the day, marriage doesn't need a contract, only love.

However, I'd like to still see the concept exist, and therefor:
Prenuptials agreements should be manditory. When a man even thinks about bringing up such an agreement, its an emberrasment because he's thinking the marriage might someday end.
Or
Abolition of divorce, much like the catholic church has, just that the state enforces it. People will think twice before they marry.

Married couples get tax cuts, and a load of other benefits. So yeah, you can stay together without marriage, but it's worth your while to tie the knot.

Unless I get taxed 50-75% of my assets for not getting married, no, it's not worth while.

With the sad possibility that you could lose 50%+ of everything, kids included, if it ends. No, I wouldn't go in thinking that it`ll end, but the possibility is there, and it`s kinda dumb IMO to ignore it, as it`s pretty serious.

IMPORTANT!
GUYS, if you really feel that women can be that evil (they can, I know they can) and some day you end up in a almost getting married situation, make sure you're with a decent, level headed woman who understands your fears. And also, write up an agreement: If you divorce what's yours stays yours and what's hers stays hers. We want equal rights and all so we cant expect to have half of everything you own and a good woman should fucking understand that!
If she refuses to sighn the agreement, then run for the fucking hills!.

I'd very much like to marry my boyfriend, some day. I'd do it for the love and commitment. And I seriously would get us both to sign a legally binding document that two solicitors would witness, saying that in the event of a Divorce there'd be no bullshit of me trying to take what's his, or trying to make him give me money, and likewise he wouldnt do the same to me.

Sounds good. Yoyo, will you marry me?

Problem lies in that some of those agreements don't cover what's obtained in the marriage, and it's not considered. Still the high chance that all that stuff (house, for example, cars, etc.) are up for grabs and rape in case of divorce.

Bullshit, the same lawyer that tells you pre-nups are bulletproof will be the one shoving his fat lawyer cock up your ass ten years later while your ex scoops up everything you own and takes the kids to live with her in Florida as she leeches off your future paychecks. The ONLY way for a man to protect what is his is to avoid being married to (or being rich and living with) a woman. PERIOD. Half or more of marriages end in divorce. 60-75% of these divorces are initiated by the woman, and a good third of those come out of the fucking blue without the man having a clue what's coming. ALL women seem level-headed and sane when they get married, that's why the dumbass agrees to marry her. It's not hard to act like a normal, loving person when you know ten years down the road that you'll be set for life.

Because those laws don't seem to be doing a thing, otherwise all this wouldn't be an issue. Given the slightest BS cause or reason, any assets can be claimed by the woman, while it's an uphill fight for the guys.

Also note fellas that in some places (Australia for one) de-facto partners have similar legal rights to a marrried wife if you ever split up. She would have to really convince a judge she deserves it, but still something to be wary of.

I would love to marry a woman some day, but the risk is just too great. If you want to leave me, that's going to hurt enough as it is, I won't have you ruining my life any further. I don't think pre-nups are a good defence. A good lawyer will rip it to shreds. And I would never trust a woman going through a divorce to show restraint as far as trying to take her husbands assetts, I mean fuck they're getting divorced theres no love left is there.

I'm going to take this opportunity to point out that I am a child of divorce and my mother left with nothing, never even tried to get money out of my father, out of not wanting to get into a fight more than any respect for husbands rights. We survived, but on bare minimum in a ghetto suburb for 12 years, while he was doing well on a middle to upper class income. Where children become involved it all gets very muddy.

Sure my father payed child support, but where does his reponsibility end? Should he have to give us enough to scrape by on, or enough to give us a decent lifestyle? Because living on the bones of your ass for 12 years sure isn't fun. In the end we made it through, but it wasn't really fair. And yet he always thought he was paying too much child support.

I would like to see how many mothers still elected to keep the children if the courts decided that whoever took custody had sole financial responsibility over the children, i.e. no child support.

Either way, divorce certainly screws over the men, because they are usually larger income earner and rarely get prime custody of the children. When kids get involved some will say the man could never pay enough, others will say he owes them nothing. But the main focus of this thread is pointing out the pitfalls of modern day marriage to the unwed.

Alimony

Half of everything else.

The man gets:

If divorce sucks for everyone, it's on significantly different levels.

Really? My mom got:
-Child support
-A 1987 monte carlo and a 1976 camaro (fucking bitch sold the camaro, too :()
-The furniture that wasn't paid for, and all of the credit card debt, since it was in both of their names and my dad refused to pay for any of it.

-My dad got:
-All of the savings, including my college fund and the money that my mom had before they even got together
-Whatever new car we had at the time
-We lived in a rental, so nobody got the house

This was sometime back around 1993-1994, and my dad was making over $100k a year, while my mom had been a stay at home mom since she had me. She ended up waiting tables at Pizza Hut to support us. My dad paid $800 a month in child support until I turned 18, and sends me money for my birthday and Christmas. He definitely got off a lot easier than my mom.

GOOD. He should be able to keep what he works for. Don't worry, though, you won't have to work for anything in your life. Just get yourself pregnant from a rich guy and divorce him a few years later, you'll be set.

Not going to happen.

Most every woman marries in her life.

Roughly half of marriages end in divorce.

Most of those divorces are initiated by the woman.

You have roughly a 40-50% chance of doing this to somebody.

Never say never.

Your dad must of had a really good lawyer

because my dad didn't get half of that

My mom got:
Child support
Me
The house
One of the cars i forgot what it was though
All of the furniture
All of the pets
Half of the money my dad had

My dad was left with:
me every other weekend
a car
and whatever was left

That seems fair enough to me Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Well i'm against marriage too. I'm a bastard child :) It just doesn't make sense to me. And I have money, now and coming to me in a year. I don't want anyones greedy little fingers on it accept mine.

I got a baby now and that FUCKED me over but she's pretty cool about it all. He got my name and I just pay for all his daycare and food and diapers and all that shit. She said I don't even have to that she would raise him but it's my son so I do.

Yeah I got a paternity test. :(

Where was I going with this, oh yeah fuck marriage.

This the second such thread we've had recently and yet again seems to confirm that more and more younger men are being put off the idea of marriage because (in the main) they have seen their own fathers fucked over by unfair custody and divorce settlements.

The Fem-Nazis have never made any secret of the fact that they want to see the abolition of marriage as an institution and every year this goal comes nearer.

Logic, common sense, morals and natural justice demand that the settlement be 50/50 of all assets , no matter who brought what into the marriage. Each parent also having equal custody and access to the child. Each parent carrying the financial burden of the children equally.

Not a penny more, not a penny less.

I really want to get married. :(

Marriage is ruined by people who divorce who are angry with each other and want to get petty about it. Thing is, they cant just keep it between themselves, they have to get fucking lawyers involved, who will do all they can to be utter bastards and make as much money for their clients therefore themselves as possible.

Therefore, if we kill all lawyers/solicitors, the problem should sort itself out.

When my parents broke up, my mum willingly moved from our lovely big house in a fancy area. She was so desperate to get away from my dad she chose to live in a shitty little flat on the edge of a load of delipitated warehouses/whorehouses/crackhouses.
But she made it a good place.

All she took from the relationship were the things that had been hers to start with, Her collection of Brittanica Encyclopedias (yeah it was really fucking fun to carry all of them), her art equipment, her few pieces of furniture she'd brought to the relationship, and her clothes.
She did not take her children away, they chose to follow her. Allthough Men being what they are, he managed to ensure I had to go round there three nights a week, minium, despite the fact that I'd actually chosen to go with my mum.
Leaving my dad in a fully paid for huge house on his own, that my mum and him had paid for equally. He stayed in that house for around 2 years living on his fat ass not doing shit, whilst she was working hard paying rent on a shitty flat.

He never gave any child support and he rarely bought me clothes or anything I needed. But my mum didnt fight it because in her eyes, she'd chosen to leave that man, she was done with him, so why on earth should she expect anything from someone she wanted to remove from her life?

I have a great deal of respect for my mum, despite the fact that due to shitty cheap solicitors I had to endure almost another three years of my dads abuse and bullying.

My mum gives me faith in women, that they're not all manipulative cunts who are going to TAKE TAKE TAKE when a relationship fails.

Hopefully I'll avoid the bit of getting into a relationship with a nasty fat bully and bringing two kids into such an unpleasnt world, but I hope to follow in her footsteps of maintaining my dignity, and if I am ever in the situation of a drastic legal breakup, I'll sever everything cleanly and go on with my life without leaching off of my ex like a piece of pitifull scum.

When my mom was 19 years old she married a guy who NEVER had a job the entire time they were married AND he cheated on her nonstop. The marraige finally ended when he confessed to my mom that he'd gotten one of his girlfriends pregnant. She dumped him and filed for divorce and you know what?? My mom had to pay that asshole ALIMONY for TWO years!!! This was back in like 1968, BTW.

I think all of you young guys are WAY too worried about what "could" happen. Also, a prenup only protects those assets you bring into the marraige.

When you guys say that she got the house, she didn't get the whole thing right? Like if she got the house, she'd have to buy half of it from the man.

For my dad it was almost as bad.
My dad got:
His truck
Half the house
Half the funiture

My mom got:
Her car
Half the house
Half the furniture
+My mom took another loan and bought the remaining half from my dad.

There was a court case over child custody. Me and my brother wanted one week at each parent. My dad told me that we couldn't do it, the court could not give 50 - 50, according to norwegian law. So what we had to do was say we wanted to live with our dad full time, then after the court decided that, my dad would allow us to live every other week with our mom. Which we did. Then a few years later, there was another court case needed for me, my brother and my dad to move to Canada since he had given her 50% of child custody by contract (she gave up the court case for that contract, after 5000$ of our college funds were spent up, and 5000$ on the original custody battle).

Fuck marriage.

Also, there are ways to protect yourself, but you have to be really damn smart and do good research and of course you need a good lawyer.

Consider my girlfriends parents. They just finished going through their court shit at the end of november. My girl's mom got only 10%, and full custody of my girlfriend and her sister. I dont know the details of what the guy did, but he protected himself from the start. I dont know the details, but through some loophole he had an account that was separate from the marriage and the other joint accounts. He put money down from the start for the house from that account and made all payments(utilities too) and refused to let the wife help with any mortgage payments. He was careful to keep drawers full of statements and receipts or whatever. I think in court his case was that throughout all those years the wife showed no interest in the house, and he used the aforementioned to prove it. And he pulled it off! Doesnt surprise me. He was an engineer and had a friggin library in his basement(and they werent novels either). He keeps the house, less 10%, but he has enough cash to just pay her without needing to sell the house to give her her share. Now, I know this all sounds vague but it's kind of awkward to ask for more details.

He was smart and obviously had thought about what might happen, but the average guy who doesn't know much about the law probably wouldn't even know where to begin as far as protecting himself beyond burying cash somewhere in the back yard.

That brings up another point though. Yes the system is unfairly biased towards men in most cases, but just going from your post (and yeah, I probably shouldn't be making judgements based on that but what the hey) the wife got screwed over. I hope even though the courts aren't forcing him he still supports his kids as it sounds like he aint exactly short of a dollar.

That's where men would get very frustrated though. I'm sure he wants to do everything he can for his kids, but he can't do that without helping out his ex-wife. If he wants his kids to live in a decent house, she has custody and by default he has to put her up in a decent house. So just by getting custody she is mooching of him, although she probably wouldn't see it that way.

Huh, awesome. I can't say I agree with my Dad but I suddenly understand why he did less than he possibly could have for me and my siblings growing up. Don't you just love having realisations like that?

Jack: The Fem-Nazis don't want to abolish marriage, they've already gotten exactly what they want: marriage has become little more than an ATM for women.

To the women who say this will never happen to them:

You say that now. Try a little ways down the road, when you've been married for a long time and the kids can basically handle themselves. Your relationship with your husband has gone stale, and while you're hanging out with your friends (on your husband's dime) one of them points out how easy it is to divorce and trade that husband in for easy cash and a free meal ticket. Instead of trying to fix the relationship, you break off the marriage, take everything he owns, and steal most of his income for the next 10 years. But hey, it's alright, he was holding you back, right? Keeping you from getting out and meeting new people?

So, life is good for a few years. You're living it up, meeting new people, screwing new people, and generally having a good time while he's stuck in a ghetto apartment with no money. But, one day, you run out of money. You've been maintaining this extravagant lifestyle without bringing any income of your own. You've probably run up credit card debts too big for just the child support to handle. So, what do you do? Hmmm, let's think, since the last marriage worked out so well, why not go for another round? Sucker in some guy you would have ignored 10-20 years ago, who's been making money this whole time instead of getting laid. He won't see it coming. So, the cycle starts again, and perhaps five years later, you split up again, and now you're rich and free once more. Perhaps you can fit in one more cycle before you're too old and ugly to attract another husband. But by now, you've built up a big enough network of in-laws that you can simply circulate around leeching off of them before you die.

you're making some rather ignorant assumptions here. For one thing, the husband in your scenerio has to be pretty rich for the woman to make out that well and lets face it...Most people are pretty solidly middle class (in the USA anyway). Your scenerio also assumes that women are bad with money and need a man to support them. Most of the women I know make more money than their husbands AND plan and maintain the household budget. Your scenerio also assumes that most people are married for like 20 years before getting divorced when in reality it would probably be under 10 years (most commonly). You're ALSO assuming that most women have friends who would advise them to just dump her husband because she's bored...And this is the most ridiculous assumption you made, besides the one where a woman's former in-laws would support her. Most friends would probably think a woman was a real bitch for dumping a good husband out of boredom. Most women won't advise a friend to get divorced unless her husband is beating her, cheating on her or otherwise abusing her and then she SHOULD leave him.

For one thing, the husband in your scenerio has to be pretty rich for the woman to make out that well and lets face it...Most people are pretty solidly middle class (in the USA anyway).

A solidly middle class man could easily have enough assets that, when liquidated, could support someone for a number of years. And there's always child support, which provides a steady flow of income out of his income.

Your scenerio also assumes that women are bad with money and need a man to support them. Most of the women I know make more money than their husbands AND plan and maintain the household budget.

Most women I know make up less that half the marital income, usually resulting from either not working, or having a lower paying job they WANTED to do, as opposed to the husband's higher paying drudgery job (though there are exceptions, plenty of guys enjoy their jobs).

Your scenerio also assumes that most people are married for like 20 years before getting divorced when in reality it would probably be under 10 years (most commonly).

True, you have me there. Marriages could easily reach the point of kids and serious joint assets by 5 years. My mistake.

You're ALSO assuming that most women have friends who would advise them to just dump her husband because she's bored...

It's well known among the male population that the most destructive force in any relationship is her friends. I've heard enough references to what your friends got in their divorces to include this in my admittedly biased opinion of the subject.

And this is the most ridiculous assumption you made, besides the one where a woman's former in-laws would support her. Most friends would probably think a woman was a real bitch for dumping a good husband out of boredom. Most women won't advise a friend to get divorced unless her husband is beating her, cheating on her or otherwise abusing her and then she SHOULD leave him.

This one I have firsthand experience with. There once was a woman who I can only describe as a professional gold digger. She married and divorced an uncle of mine, then proceeded to circulate around the family, leeching off everyone until they kicked her out. Her kids, her sister (that one doesn't really count), I believe a couple other family members, and my personal family. Few things suck worse than having an alcoholic, penniless gold digger addicted to the high life hanging around, dragging her feet at any effort to get her moving in life.

A woman who got a house, car, steady flow of income, huge lump sum of money, and her credit debt erased by divorcing someone most certainly WOULD advise others to be the same. As for "most" women, this bullshit is so rampant that I'm pretty sure "most" women now fit the profile.

At least, in America. Eastern European women don't do that...:D

I didn't say that it never happens and maybe you live in an especially affluent area, but around where I live, no woman could expect to get a huge lump sum of money and huge monthly payments in the event of a divorce. For one thing it's based on income...I think Georgia law says 19% of a man's income goes to child support per child, but it can't exceed 35% total or something like that. I mean there are divorce horror stories and extreme examples with both women and men as the guilty parties.

I still beg to differ on how much money a woman could get out of a middle class family. A house with a half-paid mortgage can still be a good 75-100K. Add to that a good portion of any savings they have, which is a wild card. Add in things like cars. Consider who winds up with the family's debt. The profit margins may not be as high as trolling the upper middle class or lower upper class, but it's still an easy way to get a lot of money.

Smart people don't take a 50/50 chance with everything they've ever worked for, without any real benefit for taking that chance. Marrying someone isn't going to make them love you any more. So, basically, you stand to lose everything or gain nothing. Explain to me how that's a good decision?

Well sorry for coming back into the argument so late.........

But you talk as though its only the man who has something to loose!

Many women give up their careers to give birth to children that men later claim they never wanted. Many women give up their careers because the man wants a housewife to make him look like a cool provider etc:

Again you're assuming the people have been married long enough to pay off half of their mortgage AND that their cars are worth a lot of money. My husband and I have a car that is 7 years old and savings of about $22,000. We just bought our house, so only 20%of the mortgage has been paid off.(we put 20% down.) We have no other debt other than our house. It would be financially hard for both my husband and I to divorce...As a single family we're doing pretty well, but if you split that family in two...We both would suffer. Do you really believe that marriage will always wind up in nothing but loss for the man?

What about couples who actually stay together all their lives?

What if the woman has a better paying job than the man? From what I've heard, there are more women than men in universities now, yet you make it out to seem that all women are waitressing so they can go to work and gossip...

I never said you had to adopt my opinions as your own, I'm not trying to convert anybody, just making full use of my ability to rail on people over the internet.

Do you really believe that marriage will always wind up in nothing but loss for the man?

Absolutely, even if it's not monitary loss. Men lose:

-The ability to do as they please.
-The ability to state their opinions without triggering a bitch fit
-Money they otherwise would spend on what they want
-Sex
-General happiness.

What about couples who actually stay together all their lives?

That's the last generation. The modern generation has shed their archaic values in favor of quick and dirty money.

What if the woman has a better paying job than the man? From what I've heard, there are more women than men in universities now, yet you make it out to seem that all women are waitressing so they can go to work and gossip...

They are far in the minority, the main breadwinner in the vast majority of American families is the man.

If I had a ton of money, and married some bitch and she divorced me, I wouldn't give her a chance to take my shit.
IF I ever do get married, I'll get some private bank account in Liechtenstein or something right off the bat, and put money into that constantly. Then if anything rough ever happens, ALL my money gets transfered to there, and I leave the country.

I don't have a problem starting up again in Europe or something.

There's no way she's getting any of my shit. Fuck that. She wouldn't even get my house or car; I'd sell them both for cheap and get the hell out of dodge.

There's a lot of you on this thread saying....."I'm not taking the CHANCE of getting married when the odds of it working are 50/50". People, your thinking is all clouded and completely wrong....as if life is a slot machine and you are just hoping for the best.

Divorces don't "just happen". Most importantly getting involved (or eventually marrying) the WRONG person doesn't "just happen". If people would put more focus on the red flags, the negatives, all the weird shit they witness from their partner BEFORE getting married......you wouldn't find yourself with the wrong person after nuptials.

Don't get me wrong, I understand as the years go by people do evolve and grow somewhat. Oftentimes, people change their moralities over a tragedy, hardship, or some other significant change in their lives (moving, new job, new neighborhood). But again, those underlying reasons at why couples break up were more than likely there in the first place. Using my marriage as an example......I can honestly sit here and say I know without any doubt my wife would NEVER cheat on me. She is too honest, she has too much integrity, she abhors cheaters too much, she doesn't put THAT much focus/value on the sexual/physical aspect of ours or past relationships. Even if I became the most tyrannical prick tomorrow, I have complete faith she would either separate or divorce me before getting physically or emotionally involved with another man. So I don't have to ever worry about "losing" her to another man, because she has an insurmountable barrier that can't be breached. Infidelity from her ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT be a cause for divorce.

Now where she MIGHT divorce me is finally being sick of my temper. Or struggling with a financial hardship after I fucked up a job that I walked out of. Or doing jail time after assaulting/killing someone in a road rage incident. All those reasons may seem silly to you all, but if in her mind its intolerable she might bail. However NONE of those things "just happened". Those were all traits or possibilities that my personality has always possessed. So by marrying me she wasn't "taking a chance" on me, she made the logical conclusion that those quirks would be tolerable for her.

My whole point is, stop getting so involved in relationships....just with your heart. THINK IT THROUGH. Those negative quirks don't just go away over the years, if anything they get worse as the time factor has made those quirks seem to grow in your mind. One year with a ditzy broad may not seem so bad, but after 5 years you may want to be jumping off a bridge. Sure let your heart guide you to your eventual partner, but more than anything make sure it is your BRAIN that is taking you to the next step of commitment, co-habitating and especially marriage.

Be accountable for your OWN mistakes peeps, and quit chalking it up to as if something "just happened" trying to remove blame from your own egos. The sooner you better understand its YOUR actions that dictate YOUR future, the better of you'll be without such a defeatist mindset as if you can't control anything.

I did read your post. Your overall point was that the risk could be minimized by "thinking it through". My point is, the FACTS of the issue point the other way. Besides, if some fucking harpy is after your assets from the beginning, it's not gonna be hard for her to bullshit you into thinking you're truly in love with her.

If you are such a naive nitwit, that in all of those months/years BEFORE getting married that you couldn't catch on to red flags and seeing through some bogus facade......then more than likely you deserved to be hustled. Darwinism 101. There ain't no harpy in the world that could play that game with ME, because its pretty damn hard to hustle a hustler.

Your whole line of....."bullshitting you into thinking you love her".....is putting yourself and any other men thinking similarly in the VICTIM category. Quit being such a faggot and be a fuckin man already. Hey, you wanna walk around thinking you are just the world's stepping stone expecting the next person to fuck you over (ESPECIALLY women who are generally the weaker sex).....I can't change that. Just understand being that wishy washy and LACKING control so much makes you look more like a big fucking pussy rather than a REAL man.

How much is 20% of the house worth? Have you been working the past 10 years? Getting married at 17 seems pretty young, do you perhaps live in Europe?

20% of our house is $28,000. No I have never had a job, because I got married at 17.:P I know it seems like a young age to get married, but it's worked out these many years. I'm from Florida, not Europe.

The thing is, I don't understand how people can rationalise an uneven divorce settlement in a situation with no children. Nobody left their job. Both are unhappy. The person who's fault it is is disgraced. What more do people need?

Because people are stupid....men AND women. Not just in matters of the heart, but in all facets of life. People fall for that shady mechanic, the flim flam contractor, the smooth talking salesman. They are so eager to have everything work out for them, that they ignore their common sense or those warning signs. Or they just lack the intellect to realize they are being hustled in the first place. Again, it isn't gender specific.....or have you never heard about con artists bilking rich widows out of their funds?

Rocko, at this point I think your biggest problem is foundationally you seem to have an incredible fear towards women. You are putting way to much power in that pussy. It's like the next female you meet, you are treating her like a crocodile. As if she has the ability to devour you whole in a minute. Whereas I see females as cute little bunny rabbits. Their cute, snuggly and timid. Granted, every now and then you DO run into a rabbit that has rabies that COULD bring you problems and danger.....but those are so few and far between.

What I don't get is how can a MAN feel so fuckin threatened and worried about women? They are fuckin girls dude, and you should have the upper hand over them. They are physically weaker. They are emotionally erratic. They are mentally inferior. And they are usually lousy leaders. Granted, I'm speaking in generalities now......but I think all of those descriptions are accurate in the majority of the scenarios you encounter in life.

So now I just gotta ask.......why such butthurt fear as if everything with a vagina is some mean boogeyman waiting to get you? That is what I was saying earlier about manning up and not being a victim. How fragile do YOU have to be, to look at creatures that SHOULD be inferior to you in every way possible.....and feel so fuckin threatened with the alarming paranoia you've spewed in this thread? Perhaps some time on a shrinks couch could help you sort through all of that, and give you a nice dose of self esteem.

DaGuru, be stupid, or survival of the fittest doesn't justify unjust laws. You say they're physically weaker and stuff, however you fail to mention that in todays society, how strong you are physically doesn't dictate who comes out on top. Statistics prove you otherwise, so kindly shut up.

Splam, perhaps if you had a higher intellect yourself, you would have been able to follow the chronology of this thread. When I was discussing female's inferiority under men, it was in reply to Rocko's "fear" of women.....and it had nothing to do with the divorce laws. The only reason I got into that whole aspect is because post after post he is making out women as being these gnarly monsters to be feared at every turn in life. So at this point I'll take a wild guess and bet that YOU will be one of those saps that ends up getting divorced and taken to the cleaners, because you are one of those STUPID idiots I was referring to in regard to things not "just happening". If you can simply read along a fuckin thread, then certainly some dumb broad will rape you over a barrell some day. Good luck with all of that........

If I was getting divorced, and truly felt it wasn't my fault, so not as if I cheated, I'd quickly "give" everything I owned to someone trustworth, or sell it all and buy gold, then hide it. What's the viability of such a plan?

Depends on where you live, but the most likely outcome would be you'd be ordered to pay either way. If you try to dump assets they'll still make you pay for some assumed value of them because all your wife has to do is claim you had the assets. You realistically cannot just dump your assets or give them all away. The best thing to do is to open an account before you get married and never ever withdraw anything from it. If you use it even once for anything toward your marriage it becomes joint marital property. So get a swiss account and only put money into it and they can't touch it.

If you want to try to get away with all your shit, the other option would be to liquidate all of the assets you can, dump the cash into an offshore account and flee the country. You would need an account they cannot touch, and you would need to go somewhere that they either A) could not find you no matter what, or B) has no extradition treaty with the US. The best option is the country with no extradition treaty. If your account is untouchable and you're in a country where they can't bring you back, you are virtually untouchable, unless she somehow tracks you down and has you killed :)

In any case, it's a little unrealistic. There's no easy way to get out of paying. Remember that marriage is a unification of property. That's all it is in the eyes of the state. A divorce is a separation of property. If you don't want to lose your shit in a divorce, don't get married. Simple as that.

If you're totally afraid of losing all your shit, but want to get married, I think the best idea would be to inform oneself of what a marriage entails as far as laws go, get a pre-nup, and open a swiss account before the marriage. Have a joint account or your own domestic bank account for funds you actually need to use. Keep your savings in an untouched account and you cannot lose them in a divorce. However, they can still take retirement benefits, pension money, social security benefits, and all kinds of other income, along with any property that the court sees as "joint marital assets" including houses and cars.

Really make sure you want to marry a person before you do it. Wait 5 years. Wait 10 years if you want. Unless you're ridiculously rich I don't think most women are going to invest that much time trying to fuck you over. They could just as easily find another "victim" if they are just out for cash. And if they're as devious as some people here think, there's just no escaping them, so the only solution is to not marry.

Lastly someone made a point about there being more women than men in universities in the US. This is true. However, having a degree doesn't mean they're going to trade their lives for careers. There's a joke I heard about some college girls working toward getting an MRS degree. It seems to be pretty true from what I've seen.

I don't think that's why he wants me to stay home. He just likes it that he doesn't have to do any cooking or housework and that his time off from work is "fun time." If I worked too, we might have different schedules and we'd split up the cooking and cleaning and stuff. Also, he really does make enough money...I mean we're not rich or anything, but we have everything we need and we just save up for the things we want. Not every housewife is just some lazy, moneygrubbing whore and not every husband wishes his wife would work.

I have a warning for you white man!

never ride a hedghog with no clothes on.

basically, before a woman gets pregnant, she is in a pristine state, she is very sexually valuable, this is the womans main asset.

when a woman meets a man she likes and vice versa, there is an agreement to trade assets, the woman trades her sex for the mans security, financial, physical, social that he has to offer etc.

basically marriage is a way of ensuring that the trade is permanent and that no side can take advantage or cheat the other partner out of their assets.

if the woman cheats on her man this is grounds for divorce, the man should get everything.

if the man does not provide the security and is abusive this should be grounds for divorce and the woman should get everything.

also married people produce kids that are easier to control, married people pass their inherited morallity and behaviour along to their offspring, divorced parents don't, that is why marriage is popular wiht religion.

Recent no-fault divorce laws have made it so women get most/all of the assets regardless of who they're sleeping with.

I don´t get alimony payments. As far as I understand, they´re for the ´maintainence´of the spouse (the ex wife?), yeah? Nothing to do with the kiddies? (if so, I find that rather unfair)
I don´t think alimony came into my parents divorce, that´s all, and I´m not really familiar to how it works.. My father handed over a third of his paycheck in child support, and my mother handed money back to my father to pay him his share of the house (Which we resided in, he didn´t)
Now that the house is sold, and all the children have moved out, they dont exchange money at all.
I don´t understand why not everyones divorces are like this. (money wise, equal parenting would be more favourable that in my case) It happened over 10 years ago too, so it´s not the product of the new family court rules.

Getting married is for pussies, simply put. I'm not even going to read all 10 pages of this topic.

People, use your fucking common sense. The dick goes in and out. It can cum, it can withhold.

And all of the existence, lies on that decision.

A truly spiritual man, I believe, in these times, is not one bit interested in children or this "marriage" ceremony. A fool on the other hand, is in a rush to ensure he won't die "all alone".

You ARE alone. She IS free. You do not OWN her, she CANNOT be owned. FACE FUCKING REALITY AND LETS GROW UP ALREADY.

I would tell some stories, including my dad (of course) but I wont even bother, because it speaks for itself. Even my married relatives stay that way and say "if I would have known how it is nowadays I never would have done it."

Wake up. It's a mistake, and a very foolish one.

Man, I just wanna flip when I meet guys my age (22-24) who have been DIVORCED already, whine about it, saying blah blah blah I was stupid for getting married, THEN THEY GET MARRIED AGAIN. Fucking man up and stop putting these goddamn bitches on the pedestal, she wants to let your dick rot off otherwise? GET RICH AND FUCK A WHORE. It's not complicated.

God, I swear just walking down the street I shake up 90% of the people. Am I the only one with my testicles on right anymore? Who doesn't give a fuck about anything but the simple things like good health, strength, hard work, and wiping one's own ass? Sound selfish? It's called being independent.

If I don't love a woman, there's no way she can "ensure" I will, or ensure anything else. If I do, then she shouldn't need that anyways. If that's not good enough, oh well, too bad, no sex for you, next.

Edit I also wanna say there's certain PATHS people follow in life, patterns of actions that lead to a result. The thing is to travel your own PATH in life, you have to truly know yourself, meaning, making your own decisions and not being fooled by anyone's bullshit, even if theyre your family and friends. Even if everyone else is doing it, to know yourself you must let them go.

I find relationships funny. While my friends are in them, they feel bad when Im the only single one. When theyre not, theyre at my neck with jealousy if a girl is in the same room. So the pity is really a self pity in a way. IF a girl wants me, she wants ALL my time, and doesnt CARE about me really, just my dick, meaning, just HER being pleased. She wont have it any other way... and if not, then Im psycho, gay, crazy, ugly, whatever term will protect her fucking shell. This is the 2 faced ugliness of people, and I will never forget the many faces Ive seen.

Marriage is in favor of women. Because so many guys fall for it, they feel confident that they can quick fix all the shit with it, like a weight loss pill or liposuction. If you live a dishonest life with stupid decisions, the one you fool is YOURSELF.

Just recently my parents got divorced my mum received 65% and my dad 35% of the house.

He now lives in a caravan in the country, and we live in a nice house in the suburbs.

I am NEVER getting married.
