She's going to Washington with the kids for a week..
Long story involving my wayward brother (that might actually make for a good post.. hmm..) has brought about the opportunity for wife and kids to go see her family for a week. It's her sister's birthday, and seeing as it's just a week, I agreed.
The other day, when things were.. unsteady.. she spoke of how great a "short break" could be for the relationship. I'm assuming that that's the main reason she wants to go, seeing as her family will be down HERE in a week (thus, how she's getting back).
Just a small update, yo.

Re: She's going to Washington with the kids for a week..
Now your big chance dudezors?
I hate housework, I'm a guy after all.
Yet...I also love it. Bending over & picking up stuff. Reaching up onto shelves. Moving stuff around. Throwing stuff out.
Sweeping. Sure, it can be boring. I only find it easy to exercise when I'm outside. Inside, I just lose interest very quickly unless I'm actually doing something. I try to slip in extra lifting & stretching while I'm cleaning though.
Any excuse to get off my ass. Once I get going at least I'm liable to do another thing instead of another thing? At least I get something done that way. Having undone tasks is really depressing? It takes a lot of brain power to keep thinking of shit you've gotta do that you don't actually do...
Well...:( I gotta go do...shit... :p

Re: She's going to Washington with the kids for a week..
Stripclubs, poker, walking around naked, drinking beer whenever you like, leaving shit around the place because you're too busy watching the game to clean it up, nviting mates over, going out with mates whenever you damn well please, coming home at 5 in the morning and sleeping on the stairs...
I loved being alone!
Just make sure you clean up before she gets back or you're screwed!

Re: She's going to Washington with the kids for a week..
Okay spend the first day making the whole appartment look fucking perfect. I mean, vacuum, clear up the clutter, clean the sheets, do the laundry, polish the windows, all that shit.
Then for the next 6 days you can sit on your ass in a pair of underpants living on takeaway pizza infront of your favorite MMO, and sleep on couch so as to not crumple the nicely tidied bedsheets.
Then the day before she comes back you get flowers and put them in vases around the appartment and get all the ingredients for a good meal, so the next day when she comes in the place will be awesome clean and you'll be cooking something tasty. Preferably you'll still be in just the underpants.

Alot of shit is hard.
But hey, you've managed to rear two kids and keep a wife this long, which is pretty impressive in it's own right. Forcing yourself to do a bit of cleaning should be no problem.
Dont look at the mess as a whole. I make that mistake sometimes and end up just crawling back to the computer huddled under a duvet.
Do one thing, ignoring the rest of the crap, and then do another thing.
Generally I start with the bed because then I know that's a clear space. Then you gather up all the laundry and fling that in the machine, and whilst that's washing you tackle the dishes and so on.
Tidying up is a bitch, especially if the mess has been allowed to become rampant and wild. But you have to smack it down before it eats you.
I reccomend Coffee and some loud techno to motivate you.

DC sucks. it is either incredibly unbearably hot and humid, or extremely cold.

Thanks for the advice. It's sad, because it probably helped me a lot. I grew up.. in an odd environment, where my mom slept all day and we played video games while not attending school. We never cleaned.
Kristen wrote out detailed instructions for how to clean each room, and taped them to the walls so I know what to do. The ones in the bedroom take up two entire notebook pages.

Re: She's going to Washington with the kids for a week..
You have my sympathy. Personally, i would pay someone else to do it.
Yes i actually hate cleaning that much.
I recently managed to have a rough control over when i blank out though so i kind of fast forward through the boring bits. I love my brain.

Re: She's going to Washington with the kids for a week..
Just talked to her on the phone.. she's really annoyed and upset with me for not going to class today.
But that's another thread altogether.

I had a couple of days last term where I was too mental to go to class....but instead of staying home the whole day I just skipped the first period and went to the rest. It happens when you have breakdowns at night, sometimes...it all hits you in the morning.
Just because you miss the first period is no reason to miss them all.

I only had one class, and it started at 5:30pm.

There's an easy way to solve problems like that. Dont tell her.
Allthough writing notes on how to tidy each room...? HardlyThere sounds like a sweet, adorable, obessive compulsive.
Perhaps you can enlist in some outside help? A clueless friend or hapless relative?
