Just wanted to know what were some of you guys' college experiences as freshmen?

Re: Starting college tomorrow...
Where you going?
First, you really don't have to finish that book. No freshman summer reading is really required.
Second, cut off, sever any severe attachment you have to home and your comfortable little shell. If you're open to all the amazing experiences you gonna have, you'll actually be there to experience them.
That means break up with anyone you're dating.
Third, don't try and stay straight edge if you are but don't go overboard if that's where you're heading. Drinking, smoking, other things happen... but moderation is key.
Fourth, music! Be enthusiastic about what you listen to, oftentimes if you find someone with similar musical taste or someone who's musical taste you respect, they'll be someone worth knowing.
Fifth, get to know people. A lot of them. But manage to stay to those you really click with.
Finally, keep yourself in good presentation (go to the gym, shower) and make your space a place people want to be.
If you follow this guideline, or the majority of it, you'll survive.
I'm neurotic and depressive, and this is the best way I've found to make college so much better than anything I've ever experienced.
Time will always help.
Don't panic.

Re: Starting college tomorrow...
"Freshman year" for me is a blur of drinking, sex and drugs, followed by intense periods of cramming.
I suggest you enjoy your first year, academically it's a big step up from high school, but in my experience the following years have a far greater work load.
What are you studying out of interest?

Step 1: Drink
Step 2: Do Drugs
Step 3: Bang bang bang
Simple.

I have a paper due next week on my reading

Probably good advice. I'm taking the weak way out and transferring.
Third, don't try and stay straight edge if you are but don't go overboard if that's where you're heading. Drinking, smoking, other things happen... but moderation is key.
As long as you keep a 3.0, do anything you want. It's really not that hard to get good grades as long as you stay on top on your homework.
Fourth, music! Be enthusiastic about what you listen to, oftentimes if you find someone with similar musical taste or someone who's musical taste you respect, they'll be someone worth knowing.
But don't be afraid to listen to new things. I turned off my killswitch engage to listen to some "celtic rock" my friend wanted to listen to.
Fifth, get to know people. A lot of them. But manage to stay to those you really click with.
Nothing is worse than being lonely / couped up in your dorm room.
Finally, keep yourself in good presentation (go to the gym, shower) and make your space a place people want to be.
It's actually pretty easy when you get into a routine. You'll want to stay in good shape anyways to help you get laid.

Re: Starting college tomorrow...
The most common mistake is freshmen go overboard with drinking/drugs and fuck their shit up. Especially people who were geeky squares in high school. So just keep an eye on shit. You don't exactly have to even keep everything moderate, just attend every class.

French was my minor. Switched it to chemistry though...
Don't be a nerd. Socialize! Join a club! Share your interests! These will be some of the people you live with over the next few years if you decide to flat, and some of the greatest drinking stories you ever tell will feature these people with central roles!
It's what I regret not doing in my first year. Sure, the drinking and sex was there, it's impossible to avoid, but I never made any real friends.

Dude, psychology is where it's at. It's where all the confused and sympathetic ditzes go, never a better fishing pond of pussy as most basic psychology classes (of course, they usually can't handle the upper level stuff unless they're really into it, but that makes the catch even better).

This is so very, very true. Every Psychological class I've attended I've been one of maybe 3 or 4 males there, and a vast majority of the ladies were quite top notch in the aesthetics department.
There is also, most likely, an exploitable percentage of females that are there because of something traumatic that happened to them which can often mean high slut potential.
If you're a dick like that; that was never my deal.
You do, however, have to worry that with high slut potential comes GREATLY increased psycho potential...
again..if you're a dick like that in the first place.

College is wicked fun. Just don't be afraid to mingle with people who are different. Oh, and clubs/activites/group anything is a great way to meet more people, which I think makes it easier to adjust.

Re: Starting college tomorrow...
I'm an Nth year philosophy major and I MOTHERFUCKING love the college life. All those things you might now think aren't for you, just give them a try. Join student groups especially, I just waited til this, my last year, to join a Progressive Student Alliance and an environmental group and all I can say is that I wish I had joined them earlier. The people are cool as hell and they're interesting. It's like joining a frat minus the fees, douces, and neo-con fundies running around.
Besides this, I will state the one universal truth of college, do NOT DATE A FRESHMAN GIRL. If you must get emotionally invested in one girl, make sure she's a sophomore or older. Freshman girls get way too emotional, they don't know how to handle all the pressure of a first year college student and will prob just end up cheating on you. And no, that isn't biased advice, I was never cheated on by any freshman girl, b/c I never wasted time on one, my older sister always drilled this knowledge into me. Fuck em if you want, but don't spend money on em.

Re: Starting college tomorrow...
Lol, yes as earlier noted psych classes do, in fact, have a 9:1 girl to guy ratio and half of them are very attractive. It's like the dream party, but in a classroom and there's no alcohol. What a shame...

Yes! QFT! And when you do find an upper year girl that can handle the material... like having a chick who can fully explain an ANOVA... well, that happened to me once. I'm still (secretly) in love with her. Hopefully she'll be in some of my courses this semester.
Creepy? Probably.
