my facial acne has recently gotten a bit worse, and i've been rubbing salycic(sp?) acid on my face once/twice every day but it doesnt seem to be doing much. i now have a little pimple about midway between my nose and my mouth a little over to the left.
its really bugging me because this girl wants go get together with me tomorrow and idk if this will be a big turn off or what...

bp kills it and acne cannot build a resistance to it.

Accutante!
Yes acnes a turn off but if you're meeting up already surely she knows what you look like and knows you have acne so it won't matter.

I dont get the big deal. Acne is just.. spots. Why is that a big deal?
Aslong as they're not seeping goo or blood around the time she's visiting I dont see how it will be a problem.
you might get some good acne advice in RY.

Re: acne around lips and kissing
Acne doesn't really bother me. Unless the guy's face is like a braille novel or something. I've never dated a guy with clear skin, because in my age group... there pretty much ISN'T anybody with clear skin. We're teenagers.
The only people I know who are bothered by acne are guys, actually. None of my girlfriends care. I have acne too. Not nearly as bad as I used to, but even when it was at its worst I was dating guys, and none of them really cared either. Just the way life is.
Unless you happen to be one of those super damn lucky clear skinned kids.

I used Clearisil Cream or what the hell ever. Had 10% Benzol peroxide, worked like a charm, but dried my face up so bad. I'd almost rather have acne than a dry face. And it burned like a bitch too. I have sensitive skin though, may not be the same for you.

Benzoyl peroxide didn't give me jack shit for results after a straight week of use, and it burned like a mofo all fucking day long, every single day.
Every time you sweat, it burns more.
EDIT: the only thing that's helped my acne is Clindamycin, and I have to take a lot. And my skin is still far from perfect.

Re: acne around lips and kissing
One of my exes had a (raised) mole near her lip, and it was sort of a turn off if i could feel it whilst kissing... so I kissed the other side of her mouth. If you think about it most kisses are diagonal anyway.
If its large and raised, and most especially not smooth - turn off.
If its small and has no edges... whatever.

You'd be surprised how much I disagree with that statement.
For a while I was the "guy friend" to a group of chicks when I was a teenager...Maybe they thought I was gay or something...I dunno...Anyways, the point is they spent a considerable amount of time bitching about their acne and how gruesome it was looking at someone with acne, let alone going near someone's face if they have it!
Unless things have changed...What with this fast food filled lifestyle now, I suppose acne is a common occurance and has been accepted. Fat, spotty teenagers seem to make up a lot of the young-person population nowadays. (No offence intended in this post just so you know.)
But yeah...Dude, don't worry too much about it. BP the fucker or pop it and hope for the best. If she's agreed to go out with you then she's probably looking at something a little deeper than your face.

Ooh! Pick me! Pick me!
Though when I do get the occasional zit, I just pop it - it's red for a while, then goes away. But they're normally weeks, if not months apart.

Re: acne around lips and kissing
For the acne, if you're really worried, pop it and then use some cover-up from your mom. When I was younger I had pretty oily skin and I would get complexion problems, and whenever I was nervous for something social I would do that. Even if no one cares (which a lot of people don't) it can help improve your self-confidence if you take some action like that. Just don't think about it and let it dampen your spirits.
And if you are actually worried about real complexion problems you should drop by a doctor and set up an appointment with a dermatologist. I did, and was given a topical cream and an antibiotic which I can't remember the name of, but I can post it later when I get home from work. The topical cream did shit all, but the antibiotic that I take in the morning and at night has cleared my skin up considerably. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that it gives me slight nausea for a little while after taking it, which can be a bummer when it's a constant thing.

Disregard this part at all costs!!!
You WILL lose a lot of social status if you are a guy wearing make-up! Just look at the emos!
Please, for the love of God, do NOT wear make-up! It's for women and that's the way it should be!

Re: acne around lips and kissing
Up until i was about 18 NOTHING worked for my acne, I had it terribly. Around 18 though my skin decided to clear up a bit, and now I use clearasil (or whatever brand as long as it has 10% benzoyl peroxide) and it works like a charm. Use the clearasil facial wash as well. If that doesn't work use some Neosporin, it really works wonders on stubborn acne though it takes forever to dry, but it doesn't burn.

dunno if this works, but it's still kinda fun to do. start washing your face. open your pores w/hot water or whatever you use. then, take alcohol swabs/pads and wipe them over any concentrated area of acne.
it will burn like a mother fucker, and you'll have to close your eyes so they don't water so much. it brings my masochism out. also, i think it helps to some extent, though i don't do it often.

Re: acne around lips and kissing
What is the active ingredient in clearasil? If it has a sour smell, it's salicylic acid, especially if it's a clear liquid or pads. If it's a white paste or cream, it would be benzoyl peroxide. Brand name shit like that is a waste though, store brands work fine. Actually, I preferred the generic form of the benzoyl peroxide gel over the name brand.
Accutane is the shit (actually I'm on Claravis, one of the generics my insurance covers). I've only been on it for like 3 days now, but it's already starting to clear my back and face up. Not near perfect yet, but it's nice not having to take antibiotics, and use 2 different topical treatments as well as salicylic acide laced soap, and still having acne. The dry eyes, lips, and poor night vision suck though. I didn't think the side effects would start so soon.
To the person who was using antibiotics and wasn't seeing results, I have some advice. I have been on 3 different ones. Minocycline, erithromyacin, and sulfamethoxazole. Then I was on some other one like 2 years ago for something else. What I learned was that it takes a while for them to reach their full potential, sometimes a couple months. But, sometimes one just doesn't work. Ask to switch to something else. Maybe you can be put on a topical treatment also, like a tretinoin gel. Retin-A micro (.04%) worked pretty well for me. But no matter what the doctor says, don't be afraid to experiment. They may say not to use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, but if you aren't seeing results, go ahead and try it. Worst comes to worst, they may prescirbe you Accutane (or one of it's equally effective generics).

Washing often - 2x or 3x a day will help alot on its own, even without the alc - which will help, even w/o the washing.
Also, no confidence is even less attractive than acne, so don't worry.

Yeah but they are heavy metal badasses...This is a teenager we're talking about here.
Imagine the shit he'd get for wearing make-up.
And Yoyo...I don't care if you're all angry and stuff with that but I strongly believe men should not wear make-up unless they are gay and like the drag scene, play in a glam metal/shock rock band or like to wear it in the privacy of their own home because it makes them feel sexy.
It's just.......Wrong.

I'm guessing you are a guy, judging by your profile. If you are a girl though, you'd have to be the coolest one on the face of the earth. There has been nothing relating a guy being on Accutane and how his child turns out. The girl, yes, because everything they take in, in turn gets passed to the baby. You can play it safe though and just wear protection while on it though. It's only a 4-5 month period you are on it, and then after a month it sounds like it's out of your system. At least that's how long they want you to not drink (yes, you are supposed to sacrifice drinking) and girls using 2 forms of birth control to not get pregnant.

Re: acne around lips and kissing
i used to be pretty bad...it wasnt classed as acne but i would get little breakouts form time to time
for short term you can get creams or washes that actually do clear it up pretty fast...two or three days though until its completely gone?
i dont think she would care that much anyway
but if you really want to get rid of it and keep it off get yourself a really good facial wash
use it twice a day
tone
moisturize
i presonally use clinque from day-to-day but when i get a breakout its straight to clearasil (more extreme cleaning stuff) you dont want to be too rough on it when you dont have to be...cause then it dries out and pumps natural oils like hyper-shit and just makes it worse

Re: acne around lips and kissing
Man no wear makeup. K.
I hate the kids with a spotless complexion. I've had acne all my school years, and it really didn't depend on ANY outside factors. Even when I was playing computer games all day it was just as bad as when I was doing karate outside all day.
It's all genetics, so just go with it, and remember the law of attraction.
If you think about acne, you will have acne. If you think about how smooth and clear your face is, it will be.
Enjoy.
