habem nova modum (we have a new mod)
(before anyone comments, i know the latin sucks...its a joke.)
Okies, I thought i'd post this by way of introduction for those who don't know me and also to quash any conspiracy theories (see, I do know this forum!).
LostCause herself asked Root to make me co-mod of this forum. My appointment is in no way any sort of critic of her modding .
I am a big fan of the way she has always modded this forum and made it her own and i have no intention of changing anything, rather i'm here to back her play.
In light of recent events I think LC felt a second mod would be a good idea, as an anti spam measure and to slap down the occaisional troll.
So no mystery there people.
Right, for those who don't know me already: I was a very regular poster here until about a year ago. Since then I've joined in the odd thread but haven't been around much. The older regulars here all know me...some even like me...a few even actually respect my knowledge (but only a few).
Back in another lifetime I trained for the priesthood (protestant).
Last time I checked there were about 5 people here whose knowledge of the bible equaled or bettered my own (they know who they are).
I also have indepth knowledge of the classic christian 'sects' . Infact Jehovah's Whiteness are forbidden from talking to me because of my knowledge of their history and the darker bits that they don't like the rank and file to know.
Oh and incase you hadn't already noticed I am also somewhat arrogant and a bit of an arsehole when it comes to religious debate. I rarely quote suorces because if your trying o debate with me without knowing them then you probably have nothing worth saying anyway. :P
Those who know the soft cuddly jackketch of S&A might be a bit surprised!

I have to disagree. LC does a really good job. No forum is harder to mod than this one, because people get really intense about their faiths or lack of it.
Yes , even the 'Fedora v. Ubuntu' doesn't invoke such passions!
Also we have a large number of, what I consider, 'heavy weight' posters who tend to know their stuff.
For example, I already know that your knowledge of science far far outstrips mine....and you aren't the only one here.
LC has always managed to stop this forum descending into a theological bear pit and modded with a fair and humour filled touch.

1. One cannot bite the hand that feeds.
2. You are in the minority in your beliefs. If absenteeism is what you consider good moderation, suit yourself.
3. Moderating this forum would NOT be difficult. Close the things that are off topic, and delete spam. Just like every other forum.

I fail to see why this is a relevant point, but I thank you for the compliment anyway.

When she is *here*. That is the key element. I have little to no issue with her moderation skills when she is able to grace us with her presence. Her wit, knowledge of the topic, etc are all great, but they matter little when they are rarely witnessed.
Anyway, I didn't mean to turn this thread into a LC-bashing event. I like her, I've got no problems with her personally, I am glad there is a new moderator, and....HAPPY EASTER, EVERYONE !

uhm this is jackketch you're talking to. If i felt it warranted it or it just made my motor turn then i'd not only bite a feeding hand but also saute it in garlic and red wine.

Well, there is a reason she chose you in particular to co-mod, and it's not because of your prevalent posting habits, as of late. You admit this much yourself in the thread starter.
It's apparent that some other form of bonding has been occurring between the two of you elsewhere.
Oh, well. :o

LOL what did I say about conspiracy theories?! We mod together on S&A and are both comfortable with each other's style.
Outside that, I've had even less contact with her than I have had with you this last year or so.
So, no 'bonding', no e-sex, no nothing.

Well, now...I said NOTHING about eSex...you certainly are the right man for the S&A forum. LOL
So, does this mean you intend to start posting here more ? Why have you been so absent lately ? Surely the standard "OMGWTF where do I stick it??!!111one" questions over in S&A aren't consuming all of your precious time. ;)

Re: habem nova modum (we have a new mod)
Please enlighten us. I am interested. How far does it go beyond the false dates about the coming of Jesus.
Like any human organisation they have had their fill of corruption, vice and hypocrisy. All of which have been documented (if one is prepared to search).
In particular the so-called 'Swiss Declaration' is a dark stain. Which in a nutshell was that, while in Hitler's Germany JW's were being sent to concentration camps for refusing national service, the Swiss Watchtower corp. issued a declaration that the Swiss brothers should do national service and that it was good and wholesome.
I used to live in Germany, where until only a few years ago JW's were still being sent to prison for refusing to do national service and it used to upset them greatly to be told about this part of their history.
Don't get me wrong, ALL churches are made up of imperfect human beings and all have fallen short at some point.
Straight laced 7th day Adventist? Well ahundred years ago they fell into the 'fucking for christ' or 'love in' trap.
Baptist, prim and proper? I've seen the photos of their pulpits draped with the swastika.
Mormon? Gunned down women and children .
The list is endless.

Read his post again. Jackketch quoted Hare_Geist, and responded to him, not to you.
Aside from that slight misunderstanding, I'm curious as to why you are so vocal as to LostCause's moderating habits. You haven't even posted in MyGod since the Origins and Civil Liberties thread .

uhm actually Digi I was responding to Hare (he and I spoke in an evolution thread I did the other day).
But as you do infact know far more than me about science (at least I take that from some your threads) I let your compliment-stealing stand.

Oh, yes. I see it now. My bad. I apologize. I will correct my post to truckfixr. Thanks for the clarification.

The only offence you have ever given me was your blasphemous attempt to disfigure the beauty that god in his infinite wisdom gave you.
I noted from your last email that you have indeed now repented and that you no longer want to look like some genetic freak.

Heh, I thought it was strange when you said it, because I think she hates your guts.
Anyways, she had accused me of saying on totse that a girlfriend of mine had an abortion (and she concluded that that somehow made me a "murderer"). When I told her that she must be lying or confused because none of my (ex)girlfriends have ever had an abortion (to my knowledge) and that I don't talk about personal stuff on totse - a (ex)girlfriend's abortion would be pretty fucking personal - she proceeded to claim that I was hiding behind the fact that totse deleted old posts/threads.
Now that Jeff has added all the old threads (he backed up threads each week it seems) she is free to search through all the posts I've ever made. Even posts before she had registered as Digital_Savior.

I don't regularly check that email account, so no, I hadn't. I see it now, and can safely say that the content is inappropriate for this forum and this thread. I guess it really got under your skin, eh ? I haven't been back to My God 48 hours and you're pouncing already....haha.

No doubt.
So did you break up with your ex because of the abortion?

Re: habem nova modum (we have a new mod)
As I said, this is not appropriate, at the very least, for this thread.
However, http://tinyurl.com/2hm2y8][/B]considering that this is all that popped up in a simplistic search ([B) (the search word was abortion and the username was Rust) I'd say that the archives do not seem to prove a case for either of us.
I am sure you've discussed this topic numerous times since my hiatus began, and yet there isn't a single entry for the word "abortion".
If you have something further to add to this conversation, I suggest you take it to email, as there is really no appropriate place to have it on totse.
As I mentioned previously, I had to concede my point because I had no proof aside from my memory. Of course you don't quote that part in your email, but that's ok. Confirmation bias is common amongst humans. :)

Is the edit button broken for you ?
Go back and read. The error has been corrected, much to your chagrin, I am sure.
And? Does that change anything I said? Of course not, so why would I edit my post?
There had not been a "conversation" since jackketch hadn't even acknowledged your existence let alone conversed with you. Your reply to him was not only rude, it was stupid. My post stands perfectly fine; no editing is needed.

I don't really think I've discussed abortion since the last thread in Humanities; though I'm not enirely sure. However there does seem to be a problem with the search function.
You can wait till that problem gets fixed, or you can try search for all the posts I've made in a certain forum without using the keywords to restrict the search - a more grueling solution but still a solution.
If you have something further to add to this conversation, I suggest you take it to email, as there is really no appropriate place to have it on totse.
Totse is a perfectly fine place to have it. Maybe not in this thread, sure, but totse allows everyone to see just how fucking wrong you were. How you were either lying, or just simply unable to admit that you were mistaken.
As I mentioned previously, I had to concede my point because I had no proof aside from my memory. Of course you don't quote that part in your email, but that's ok. Confirmation bias is common amongst humans. :)
I don't mention it because what you did could hardly be called that. You were forced to admit that you couldn't prove your bullshit claims, but yet were still maintaining that I had said it. That's hardly "conceding" anything.
Here's an example of what you did. After having to admit that you had absolutely no evidence of your bullshit claims, you still make comments such as these:
" I recalled a debate he and I had about 2 years ago about abortion, wherein he tried to prove to me that he knew personally what he was talking about (he supported them and I opposed them) because he and his girlfriend had had one. I certainly didn't believe him then, and he conveniently denies having ever said that now, but I would never forget such a thing. We inevitably got into another abortion debate, and I brought it up. That's when he denied it."
No, you're not, since it's obvious that you are derailing it. Meretricious apologies, FTL.
Perhaps you need to learn the definition of "sorry". I can be sorry for "de-railing" the thread (technically it was already de-railed before, among other things, you asking what Ilo means) yet still continue to do so because I feel it's important.

Because the error is no longer present. Your post has been rendered moot.
There had not been a "conversation" since jackketch hadn't even acknowledged your existence let alone conversed with you. Your reply to him was not only rude, it was stupid. My post stands perfectly fine; no editing is needed.
I not only recognized that, but apologized for it and edited my post to correct my mistake. What more do you want ?
It's not stupid to misread something. It's called "making a mistake". I know you salivate at the thought of my being wrong. This is not a mystery to me. It just makes you look pathetic, because you completely overreact every time you think you have an opportunity to point it out.
Suit yourself. *shrugs*
Don't flatter yourself. I just like to take any opportunity to show that you're a liar. This was a perfectly good chance to do just that.
I don't consider your attention flattering.
You don't need to articulate the obvious. Everyone who knows our history can attest to the fact that your sole mission is to discredit me.
I actually didn't even know you were "back to My God..." the posts you've made in this thread are the first ones of yours I've seen in a while.
That has little to do with what I said. You know I'm posting, and the first opportunity you get you pounce, disrespectfully derailing a thread by a fellow moderator in order to enact your revenge for embarrassing you (or whatever it is you think I have done to warrant your dedicated "affections").

He's still working on the glitches, from what I understand, so perhaps soon. Let me know if you see the necessary repairs implemented.
Otherwise, I have better things to do than make you feel better. Sorry.
Totse is a perfectly fine place to have it. Maybe not in this thread, sure, but totse allows everyone to see just how fucking wrong you were. How you were either lying, or just simply unable to admit that you were mistaken.
I first indicated that this forum and this thread were inappropriate places to have this discussion, as it has nothing to do with the topic. My comment about not having an appropriate place to have the convo on totse was based on the fact that there aren't any forums dedicated to arguing with other members about past arguments...unless you'd like to take it to B&M.
I didn't take you for being quite that immature...
I don't mention it because what you did could hardly be called that. You were forced to admit that you couldn't prove your bullshit claims, but yet were still maintaining that I had said it. That's hardly "conceding" anything.I clearly said what I could: I remember the conversation happening, but have no empirical evidence, and anybody who SHOULD have remembered it as well (because it was discussed in IRC at great length) doesn't.
So, I recanted my statement outright. I said something to the effect of, "I withdraw my assertion, because I have no evidence."
I think that is perfectly acceptable.
Perhaps you need to learn the definition of "sorry". I can be sorry for "de-railing" the thread (technically it was already de-railed before, among other things, you asking what Ilo means) yet still continue to do so because I feel it's important.Explaining my position to another totsean who was curious what we were talking about isn't "doing anything" offensive. My point is that my beliefs are irrelevant, because I have publicly and openly withdrawn my claim, as I cannot prove it, however much I know it happened.
As for the definition of "sorry", I know it very well, because unlike you, I trust the dictionary (unabridged versions or otherwise). I also apply the definitions of words in context.
Normal people, when they are sorry for a behavior, do not repeat said behavior. To apologize can be likened to admitting wrongdoing, because regret is a key element. If you know you're doing something wrong, then you would not willingly continue doing it if you were truly regretting it.
To pursue a regrettable wrongdoing because you feel it is important is unlikely, and thus leaves me with disbelief that you are, in fact, "sorry".
As for my asking what ILo means, it was not a derailment, as this thread is about Jack. It's not just about his moderating this forum. People are interested in who he is, what his qualifications are, etc.
It was appropriate to ask that question here.
Are we done now ?

Re: habem nova modum (we have a new mod)

That doesn't render it moot. Like I already said, it serves to show how the reply you made at the time was rude and stupid.
It would have been a "mistake" initially when you first replied to jackketch, that I could agree with. However, when truckfixr pointed out that jackketch was replying to Hare_Geist and not to you, and you still maintained that you were correct, then that's not a mistake, that's plain old-fashioned stupidity.
I don't consider your attention flattering.
You don't need to articulate the obvious. Everyone who knows our history can attest to the fact that your sole mission is to discredit me.
Again, you're flattering yourself. That's not my sole mission.
Since it's obvious to you that I will take any chance to prove that you're a liar, then all the more reason why the fact that I am doing so now doesn't mean you've "gotten under my skin". Thank you.
That has little to do with what I said. You know I'm posting, and the first opportunity you get you pounce, disrespectfully derailing a thread by a fellow moderator in order to enact your revenge for embarrassing you (or whatever it is you think I have done to warrant your dedicated "affections").
Again, don't flatter yourself. You haven't embarassed me because you've proven absolutely none of your silly claims.
As for the derailing of this thread, don't be so modest. You've played a very important role in that seeing as you were already discussing things that had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that 'My God...' has a new mod. Not to mention the fact that you decided to reply to my post when it wasn't even directed at you; thus resulting in this current discussion.

Re: habem nova modum (we have a new mod)
jackk, I saw your post but I had already written this reply. If you want to delete it, go right ahead, but I'm posting it. I would sent it via e-mail but that would allow her to hide her appalling behavior.
He's still working on the glitches, from what I understand, so perhaps soon. Let me know if you see the necessary repairs implemented.
Otherwise, I have better things to do than make you feel better. Sorry.
Just as I expected, you aren't even willing to take some time to support your bullshit claims. You're content with calling someone a murderer, accusing his girlfriend of having an abortion, and then not even bother doing some work to back that up. Pathetic.
I clearly said what I could: I remember the conversation happening, but have no empirical evidence, and anybody who SHOULD have remembered it as well (because it was discussed in IRC at great length) doesn't.
So, I recanted my statement outright. I said something to the effect of, "I withdraw my assertion, because I have no evidence."
I think that is perfectly acceptable.
You did a lot more than just that. You continued to claim that I had said what you claimed I had. That's not "conceding" anything. That's you acknowledging that you had nothing to support your bullshit yet continuing to make that claim anyway.
Explaining my position to another totsean who was curious what we were talking about isn't "doing anything" offensive. My point is that my beliefs are irrelevant, because I have publicly and openly withdrawn my claim, as I cannot prove it, however much I know it happened.
The point being that you "conceded" absolutely nothing, hence why this isn't "confirmation bias" as you so ignorantly claimed. I didn't mention what you had done because it's nothing close to "conceding" anything.
As for the definition of "sorry", I know it very well, because unlike you, I trust the dictionary (unabridged versions or otherwise). I also apply the definitions of words in context.
Obviously you don't since the definition of "sorry" allows me to be sorry for doing something yet still maintaining it was important to do so, and even continue to do so in the future.
For example, I can say I'm sorry to my boss for getting late to work yet still maintain it was important because I was, lets say... saving a kitten - and vow to save other kittens if the similar event were to occur in the future
As for my asking what ILo means, it was not a derailment, as this thread is about Jack. It's not just about his moderating this forum. People are interested in who he is, what his qualifications are, etc.
It was appropriate to ask that question here.
It, however, still not on the topic of his moderation. The contents of his signature have absolutely nothing to do with he being a new mod in 'My God'...'
Instead of admitting that this is the case - and that it's not such a big deal since derailing a thread isn't the great offense you're making it out to be - you conveniently ignore what you've done and point the finger only at me.

Well I've 'known' both Rust and Digi for ages (in a non-biblical sense I hasten to add!). Both rank high on my list of 'Posters I WILL Take Some Crap From"
Also mods and ex-mods tend to get a bit more rope from me than regulars, simply because they tend to know where the boundaries are.

I'll correct you, since I'm the "she" in question.
I was demodded because I moved an off topic thread (involving Jack and an admin) to a forum where it belonged, as per the RULES. The fact that said admin was receiving heat for modding me in the first place turned the moving of that thread into "justifiable cause" (convenience) for demodding.
My "crime" was not intentional, and other moderators have gotten away with far worse.

There was no reason to put that 'she' in there and make it personal. A 'they' would have sufficed.
For the record I have always thought that 'she' was a good mod and while I understand acidmelt's reasons for demodding her, its one of the few things I disagree with him on.

sometimes its just right to protest when something is wrong.
Fucking-A! Except when we regulars do that shit, we get banned. And I can't believe Digital was a moderator.

Don't be embarrassed, jack :)
The name of that thread was clarity 2.
Does that suggest there was a clarity 1?
DRAMA!

Re: habem nova modum (we have a new mod)
Being IP banned merely for questioning a mod, and having some valid points, would be ridiculously unfair.
There was alot more to it than that.

Ah, I understand. Although I still don't see what would've caused a ban.

A moderator moving an HB-like thread to HB constitutes De-modding?!
I bet DS was really thrown for a loop.

Pssshhh... they probably realized their mistake in making DS a mod and used that as an excuse to correct their mistake.

Enough already.
It was a dark time for this forum.
And now you all know just how far I had my head up my own arse that day.

There was more to it than that. DS cleaned up threads that didn't need to be cleaned, if you catch my drift...

Re: habem nova modum (we have a new mod)
The allusions to "e-sex" make me el O el. Digital, seriously... The reason I chose Jack was simply because Jack and I mod S&A together so I know we work well together and have a similiar moderating style. I just didn't feel like putting myself through another fiasco having to pick someone, train them, and then possibly find out that I've hired a pit bull as a co-mod. This was just easiest for everyone involved. He's a good mod, he's quite knowledgeable, and he's unbiased.
Perhaps you think you or someone else should've been modded because they post more often, and you think that it's undemocratic to elect someone to be moderator that doesn't frequent the forum. But, &Totse is not a democracy and jackketch has been made mod based on his moderation skill and background.
If you want to discuss this further I'd be happy to via e-mail, but I don't think it's appropriate to drag this thread out too much longer.
Cheers,
Lost

My mad insightfulness is sometimes a burden to carry around.
It sure was nice to hear the whole scoop, for once. Too much is left to the imagination around here.

What? I assume you're talking about DS? First of all, what would we be "taking her down" from? And to what? And how is modding jackketch making him a pawn in this imaginary game to "take her down" from nowhere to nothing?
Am I missing something?

They are talking about DS being de-modded for moving/closing Jack's thread when he was arguing with AcidMelt. It wasn't about Jack's being made a moderator.

People, I unstuck this thread for a reason, ie its served its purpose and should now slip gracefully down the board. And could we please have an end to the whole discussion about what happened back then.

I agree, Jackketch. I didn't know anything about a Digital Savior thread closing fiasco. Digital Savior and Valmont weren't demodded for anything they did, per se. They were never supposed to be modded in the first place.

Forgive me, jack - (just this once)
...for I can't NOT ask whyyy? in response to this:
"They were never supposed to be modded in the first place."
Please show some leniency here, as it is only natural for villagers to be curious about the HMFIC's who run their village.
:)
Edit: Thanks, truckfixr - for clarifying in my absence up there ^

Why not ? I am knowledgable on the topic of religion, and I spent my first 3,000 or so posts in this forum. I was dedicated to it, and many people valued my input.
Jack said it himself: I would have made a great mod of this forum.

Then you were spared the gory details, because I was demodded for the reasons I have previously specified, and Valmont was demodded for lying and throwing the names of Admins around in order to get away with breaking the rules.
If you'd like to see a copy of the email exchanges between I and acidmelt, I'd be happy to supply them to you.
Just because you're ignorant of something doesn't mean they didn't happen. Perhaps you should check things out before insinuating that I am a liar.

Well - except for that tiny (*cough-21-pages*) exhange in the O&CL thread, which you'll be pleased to find that jack re-opened for everyone's viewing pleasure.
And what perfect timing, wouldn't you say? Your debut back to My God... Thread re-opening...
I don't know about you, but I am absolutely beside myself with glee.
