I was thinking about something the other day following a vague reminder of sex education classes back when I was in school.

One of the things they brought up was the difference between the promiscuity of guys and girls.

You all know the old thing about the more times a guy does it, he's more of a stud...The more time a girl does it, she's mor of a slag/slut/whore...

it made me think...In this day and age where equal rights are in force and women get pretty much the same liberties as men, why does the old slag/stud thing linger in peoples' minds?

I myself found that I thought the same...Girls shouldn't go round fucking for fun...It's just not the way it's always been. That in turn made me ask myself why I could be so hypocritical seeing as I agree with equality.

My answer so far is women should have more respect for themselves.

Women are usually better looking, better smelling and better behaved than guys and that has been consistent throughout history.

Guys go out and make fools of themselves, get STDs, be general arseholes when it comes to fucking and chucking...

But with that in mind added to how much humanity has changed, why is this (and a couple other things) still the case among many people? Girls aswell as guys.

Why do many still believe that girls are slags for sleeping around and guys are studs for sleeping around?

I call them both sluts.

I tend to just chuckle at allegations of inequality, and have ever since I realized that girls call other girls sluts about ten times more often than guys do.

A slut is anyone you don't like who's having more sex than you. Everyone else is just a "free spirit."

It's so much easier for a girl. If she walks up to a guy and says "let's fuck", most guys will be like "alright, yeah!" If a guy does that he will most likely get a slap in the face.

Well, it's a biological difference. We discussed the same thing in a thread earlier called something like "Why do women have such higher standards than men?" by Graah. Biology and Anthropology classes taught us that women behave differently because they've evolved to connect on an emotional level, and that takes more time. Men evolved on a physical level, which takes less time. These behaviors show through in an expression of society in media. Suddenly, women who express themselves physically with many partners in a short span of time are "sluts" and men "studs."

It's not how men veiw them, it's how other women veiw them. When women fuck they're looking for attention and thus developed a negative connotation. When men fuck it's to fuck, therefore it is an expression of genetic syndication, rather than an emotional crutch.

But yeah, it could be higher standards, too.

It's all got to do with self-respect. Women have expectations to live up to.

This behaviour is probably, at its roots because of the female, and her choosing the best fertiliser for her seed.

Still though, when my friends and I talk about chicks (especially the hot ones) and one says, 'she's a slut' or, 'She's hot, but she's a skank' I just go, 'WTF? We would do the exact same things in their position, and they should fuck more people more often anyway IMO. More power to them'

There's the huge stereotype that women are these quiet little creatures.

It's the reason 'men are from mars, women are from venus' thinking pisses me off so much.

There's not that much of a difference between the sexes, but it's a convenient insult to call women sluts when you're grasping for straws.

It seems that this double standard sticks around to some extent due to human nature.

It's a wierd instance in the animal kingdom that males are bigger than females biologically. I doubt it's a coincidence that we can't throw away patriarchy so easily.

Better behaved than guys.. do you even have any evidence for that that can be applied to the entire history of humankind? they need a higher level of self respect to acheive the same level of confidence males enjoy they acheive this by looking hot[measured by how many guys are hitting on em] but that brings the need to maintain this perceived hotness which costs money to keep up with the fashion of the time which strangely is mostly thought up by females so its all self iposed.
