Biblical Based Morals
First off I think it's an absolute joke. The bible is in no way a definitive list of morals that applies to today's society. It holds no place in an argument over controversial social issues such as abortion or gay marriage. If anything the bible values the life of a fetus much lower than that of a living person.
Exodus 21:22-25: "And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no [further] injury, he shall surely be fined as the womans husband may demand of him; and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any [further] injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise."
By the logic that Pro-Lifers and Anti-Gay marriage advocates use, we should put all women in their place. They need to be subservient to their men, and must not say a word in church. We should also bomb Pork Processing plants, and delis. I propose that we stand in the deli section of the supermarket and harass every person who buys pork, because thats the Christian thing to do. In the old testament pork is forbidden to be eaten. This one law is often ignored by bible thumping Christians. This doesn't keep them from selectively reading the rest of the book to further "assumed" Christian morals.
Lets get the fundamentalism rolling. Lets go and burn some J.C. Penney's to the ground for selling wool cotton blends.
Deuteronomy 22:11
'You must not wear clothing woven part of wool, part of linen.'

hear hear
we've had many discussions of morality in the bible and none of the bible thumpers can come up with an excuse =/
look at the moral zeitgeist, it was OK to call people niggers on TV some 40-50 years ago.. not so anymore.

Re: Biblical Based Morals
I think we should make some evangelical flyers about how Jesus despises you eating pork. Then we should preach the good word at the deli.

Re: Biblical Based Morals
I would congratulate you on some original points.
They seem ,however, to be lacking originality.
And in Acts 10 Peter has a vision where impure creatures (Ther are a lot more besides pigs) parade in front of him, and he is commanded to kill and eat the impure animals. He refuses to kill or eat them because they are pure. He is rebuked being told, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." To be fair this part is more to grant acceptance on the Gentiles, but I guess we can use it here.
I'm sure you know the comeback to the eye for an eye line.
And while I can't find it now, there is a part where Jesus says that it is not neccesary to restrict oneself from things unless they strengthen faith, thus you could argue that it is not neccesary to restrict the kind of clothing you wear if it has no effect on your faith. I don't think that this would be too bad, it doesn't contradict any of the ten commandments, nor Jesus's own commandments.
Still, I'm sure you're going to accuse me of cherrypicking. Well. I am.

The bible has too many examples of hatred from the OT god to be a laudable god.

Its a parody of the shit evangelicals do at abortion clinics, and any place where there are an abundance of gays.

So? Educate us. Why aren't these points valid? Are you going to use the "OT doesn't apply despite the fact that Jesus says it does"? You aren't debating, you aren't even commenting.
If we're sucking each other's dicks, then you're certainly masturbating.
On an actual note, the Old Testament's a pretty shaky source of morals, but I admit that I do enjoy the New Testament's morals. Jesus had some good ideas, but I think they were politicized by the founding fathers of ya olde church.
Frankly, who doesn't wish we could live in a world of neighbourly love and peace?

What? Drawings of dragons? What the fuck does that prove?
Holy shit! I found this drawing of a dragon that was done this year! If a 5,000 year old drawing of dragon means dragons were around 5,000 years ago, then a preasent drawing of a dragon must mean there are dragons around now! Right?

Yes im saying you have invalid points because you need to use the rest of Bible as context and know what they ACTUALLY meant when they said it because our translation is much different from people's long ago translation.

Exactly
I love it when some "pro-life" people support the death penalty. It's so hypocritical it bends my mind

If their argument is that all life is sacred and only God can choose when it ends, then yes, I agree with you, it is mind bending. If, however, their view is that you cannot kill a child because it is an innocent, but you can kill a criminal because it is just the opposite, then I think being anti-abortion and pro-death-penalty is non-contradictory (however, it should lead to an infinity regress of each executioner being executed).

Because you've not presented any yet, you've only dropped the name(not even that) of some man you THINK knows what he is talking about and have obviously put a lot of trust in this guy's book which you can only remember the "meat" of. That doesn't exactly sound like "research" to me. Not to mention that nearly all of your posts have been void of any real content.

You never present real arguments or evidence. You just spam links and copy and paste shit you didn't read while spewing complete horseshit without having any thread of evidence, logic and reason to back any of it up. Your viewpoint is "I am right and everyone else is wrong. Evidence and reason are for pussies, shit i just made up is as good as fact". No shit nobody wants to look at anything from your viewpoint

The whole point of the bible is the message, not the story. I'd say "love thy neighbor" and "thou shall not kill" can help today's society a lot.

The Golden Rule isn't a Christian invention. It's found in loads of religions and philosophies, a lot of which came prior to Christianity.
