Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
I have always sworn to stay out of my kids relationships . I used to hate the 'dating rules' my parents used to try and set about who was 'suitable'.
My mother forbade me to ever bring home a 'black, an Irish or a catholic'( I spent years looking for a black Irish catholic...trust me, they are rare around here!)
So I don't care who my kids date. Black, white, rich, poor, yellow, female, shemale or male. As long as they don't bring any redheads/gingers home then its fine by me.
But.....
How can a son of mine date a girl, fall in love with a girl who doesn't even know how to make a cup of hot chocolate from scratch??! The fact she is a northerner and has an accent that makes me cringe everytime she opens her mouth is bad enough. Do i really want a daughter-in-law who sounds like an extra from Coronation Street (a northern English soap about simple, honest ,working folk)?
I jest not. He has just spent half an hour on the phone trying to explain to her how to do it.
Did her mother teach her nothing? I mean ..i don't expect any girl these benighted days to know how to cook but surely...
[/rant]

haha. jack, the ginger comment made me lol. suggest your son take a cooking class with her. that way, if they do end up eternally bound, they can both make food without coming over to your house. and, if they don't, he at least can more accurately judge the food of his other partners.

Yes, women should know how to cook. If I can cook better than you can, that is a bad sign.

What is "from scratch"? I make hot chocolate by putting hot chocolate mix in a mug of milk and microwaving it. Is there another way?

I want to try an apple pie.
Cooking is a life skill and something that can be interesting to talk about or even do together, but it's hardly a deal breaker.
Personally, with many of the mothers out there, I'm glad that girls don't absorb as much as their mother, or other elderly types , might prefer.

By grating chocolate into hot FULL FAT milk, it really isn't rocket science. Wether you heat the milk in a saucepan or give it some 'radar loving' is secondary.
Persoanlly i feel cream should be added.

Re: Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
Some people are just no good at cooking - I'm one of them. Yeah, I can feed myself fine but don't expect anything fancey. I guess its not the fact that I can't cook, I don't ruin meals I just HATE COOKING.
And I actually learnt how to make hot and cold drinks from my father, not my mother.
You'd be amazed at how many teenagers (both male and female) don't know how to cook or make simple things - due to our every increasing fast paced lifestyles.

Re: Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
I grew up baking cakes and cookies from scratch. Imagine my surprise when, at the age of 15 or so, I was at a friends house and learned they had premade cake mixes. I have sense forgot what little I knew about such things.
Anyway...I've never made hot chocolate that way. We used Hershey's syrup and milk.
Now, about sammich's. I'll take one on potato bread with garlic bologna, lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard.
Oh...and we had to ask permission from my mother to cook anything, she was very strict. Maybe that's why I don't like cooking very much.

Re: Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
Maybe her mother did teach her but she's too daft to soak it up.
Also your boy's a teenager...Love is sex...That's about it.
When he's older he'll look back and say "Wow...What a dumb bitch! That's what thinking with my knob did for me!"
I've been there...
I loved this girl...She was hot, sexy, smelled nice and knew wonderful things to make Pete Jr stand to attention.
She couldn't use a microwave, unsliced bread was as mystifying as the fucking Enigma code (she would look at the bread, the knife then me with a strange look as if to say "Is this Candid Camera?") and using the English language well enough (her spelling, grammar and punctuation were worse than seven year old's) to write a letter to her aunt would make her go crazy.
What a dumbass!

I adhere to what I call "realistic ethics." I am forced to agree, though I dearly love meat, that if you object to any other sort of killing there is really little justification for the killing of food animals. However, my refusal to eat meat will not save a single cow... when I buy a steak at the store, it's already been slaughtered. True, if everyone stopped there would be no more slaughterhouses, but my few purchases won't tip the balance either way.
So I eat delicious dead animal and enjoy it.
Edit: Though I suppose you might have other reasons to be vegetarian, too.

Even better,
Every time your son brings her round your house
make sure you have a taped episode of coronation street in the video machine and when you hear them walk in the door press play.
See how long it takes her to notice that coronation street is the only thing that plays on your tv whether if its 12pm, 9pm, or 3am.
If she asks you about it just say 'Am just watchin corrie on't telly'

I *can* cook but i am bad with variation and thinkin up meals for the next few days whenever doing shopping, i am terribly scared of food going bad while it waits for me to cook it, as i've suffered slight food poisonning before and it really wasn't nice. Apart from that since my mother died in august (my sister keeps eating over at a friends or what have you) i really can't be bothered to cook just for myself.

I've never heard of it made that way, sounds like it would taste about the same as the hersey chocolate and milk thing though, thats how everyone i know makes it.
Can she follow a written recipe? Maybe she's one of those people that has to see things in front of her no matter how easy it is.
I think Euda's idea of the cooking class might work though. As long as it starts super easy, don't want her to freak out about cooking for like.
One other possible does she do the whole "i don't know how to do that" with other things besides cooking that should be simple? Might be an attention thing.

Baking 'chocolate' (it isn't btw) is AN ABOMINATION before the LORD! Of course i meant Milk chocolate...and proper stuff at that. None of your American water based Hersey shite neither. Proper CAdburys Diary Milk or Rittersport Alpenmilch.

Re: Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
ahhh, you are so ignorant in all your rants about life in general. Who cares if a girl or guy for that matter knows how to make a cup of hot choco from scratch or not???? People do not get together for life on such a trivial excuse. I really feel sorry for your kids.
And I have another bone to pick with you while I am at it. You have spoken really bad about my friend, Henry Reilly. You say that he is stalking and asking for nude photos. That is such an absurd comment. How do you know this is true? do you have facts or proof or even threads that support this???
I have met this man in person, whom I first met online, thank you, and he was never anything but a gentleman the entire time I have talked to him. And as I type this, I recall reading some very disturbing threads posted here.....example.....guy wanting to screw his little sister.....
You should really stop and consider when you start giving warning out to these kids, and it seems to me like they have more common sense than you do JackKetch. Stop trying to condemn people that you personally do not like. I does not fit a man with any kind of moral learning and makes yourself look pretty judgmental. Just had to say my 2 cents.
Henry is a very kind, gentle man with his own personal opinion that you seem to not agree with so you ban him and then rant against him.
He is no stalker or pervert or any other harsh word you could describe him with, and he does have a life.

Persoanlly i feel cream should be added.
I understand the fat milk part, that is the best part.
But why into the glass? I always inverted it to avoid weird lil' chunks, by grating the necessary chocolate and adding beautiful full milk to it.

You should never have to do hard work, I think people should cook for you. You are the prize, not the other way around.
You should make people win you over, you shouldn't try to win others over. Be the center of every conversation, you are the interesting person. Remember this and your life just might have a positive turn.

Re: Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
I can cook, well i can cook when i can be bothered to think of what to cook anyways. Personally im more of a dessert man myself, aint found noone who can beat my chocolate cake yet!
Oh and as for the hot chocolate from scratch thing. I would do that if i drank full fat milk, but i find it too creamy for me, and plus i wouldnt use cadbury's, use Green & Blacks standard milk chocolate. 34% minimum cocoa product, all organic, and its fairtrade too.

Organic and fairtrade..two very good reasons not to use it then. Besides it's too Nigella Lawsonish Chelsea Chic.

ahhh, you are so ignorant in all your rants about life in general.
$10 this is Henry Reilly.
Henry Reilly; fuck you!

Women should know how to cook, it is a very good selling point when meeting someone, they should also go through tons of life experiences excluding sexual adventures so there is actually some subtance to them. Instead of the same old reply to every question.

Pretty much the same here, including the vegetarian part. I make pies and cookies and brownies and such from scratch all the time.

I think this is true about everyone. I think every person should at least be able too cook a few things. Most people seem to have something wierd about them and it always becomes apparant at the oddest times.
What do you mean by goofy?
And why should they exclude sexual adventures? Just think, the more sexually free they are, the more free they will be with you! Unless you're just into prudes or something...:P
My husband always says I'm a prude, but I'm really not.

Re: Do mothers teach their daughters nothing..?
its a trend, girls learn little or nothing. my niece who is like my daughter more so than a niece, spends and always has spent tremendous amounts of time with me. I have taught her how to cook and clean, grammar, spelling, numbers, shapes, drawing, paining, computers, and money management aside from how to live and how to treat others, this is the way that I would raise my daughter, and what I think will make a good woman, or at least an intelligent, responsible adult as opposed to another burden on society. her mother is an idiot and has taught her nothing of worth, which is part of why I am who I am to her. people in today's society seem to view their children as a burden, and not as people. my niece is 6 and smarter and more mature than both of her parents.

Most people don't know this, but the kama is only one of the sutras that a truely educated person was supposed to learn. One of the others is meal preperation, all the way from the filling of the kettle to the setting of the table. I assure you, if they'd had chocolate, that would have been in there.
