I've been working on getting a replacement for UBB set up here for the past few weeks and things are coming together. I've installed a separate database server to handle the message database and I went and bought a copy of vBulletin. Right now I'm working on porting the UBB data over to vBulletin on a test server. The version of UBB that totse uses is so old that there are no ready-made conversion tools around, so I've had to take a UBB converter for a more recent version of UBB and adapt it.

One thing I've found is that vBulletin in particular and PHP in general are both pretty hostile to non-ASCII non-UTF-8 characters, which means that any posts using non-ASCII non-UTF-8 characters won't get ported over.

Also, starting immediately, user names with non-ASCII non-UTF-8 characters are going to get shit-canned.

So if you're using a character or characters in your handle that aren't on a standard US keyboard, or if you're using a character that's typically used in programming (such as a pipe or brackets), your account will probably disappear real soon. It's nothing personal, feel free to re-register, but don't use non-ASCII non-UTF-8 characters or your account will just get shit-canned again.

Based on my schedule the conversion and setup may take a few more weeks, but I expect to have everything done by the end of the year.

A change would be good, but not too big a change... I'm normally not a fan of vBulletin - how it looks, the 30000 different things it seems it can do. I like totse for its simplicity. And a PM system could be good, but knowing your average user here, it would probably be abused. Just keep an email slot in the profile - not everyone wants to be contacted, anyways.

Also, please, do not get rid of totse's current post icons and emoticons. I like these more than any others on any forum I've seen.

Why didn't you just go with UBB.Threads? It is way better than most other forum software out there, and it would have the same UBB look. At least get something better than vBulletin. That also being said i have noticed as has everyone else

A large amount of shit in ka-fuckin-boom that draws alot of negative attention to the site and promotes alot of stuff that is unsafe or potentially harmful to people

and this is very worrie some and for quite some time i have been trying to figure a way to hopefully clean it up or set some way of screening articles with out the whole sensor ship issue



Is there a way we can setup a small panel or some such thing so each corresponding article IE BB or BLTC gets dropped in a mailbox and is assessed and then Accepted or Dumped

this way we can be a slightly more respectable site and not one that promotes stupidity ?

i only wish to help if there is something more i can do to fix certain issues i would be glad

but my main focus is on the KFB section if we could resolve something that would be great

with what 4-5 loyal years service i have sufficient background to root through the crap that lies within

Anyways although my grammer is horrid i hope you truly do read this as that section has been a thorn in all of our paws since the dawn of time

I personally volunteer to manually transfer username/reg date/post count/etc to the new forum software, if it can't be done automatically.

If a few other mods volunteer too, which I'm sure will happen if necessary, we'll be able to get the job done in a few days. If we only do it for people who ask, it wouldn't amount to THAT many accounts anyway.
