Default Why is it cold during winter?

I've always wondered this. Isn't the sun closer to Earth during this season?

The clouds get grumpy around the holidays so they fight thus blocking the sun.

Earth is tilted at an angle on its axis. When the Earth moves through its orbit different latitudes are towards the Sun. When the Northern Hemisphere is experiencing winter the Southern Hemisphere is more directly facing the Sun, therefore having higher temperatures than the North. In addition to this when winter is occurring Sun radiations reflect the winter experiencing hemisphere so that solar radiation is stretched out over a greater area, thus the non directness of the sunlight causes cooler weather.
