Re: should we legalize marijuana?
I vote... gah, it's so hard. If we legalize it, everyone would do it, including my parents, and then it'd just be weird...
"Hey mom, wanna go toke up after lunch?"
"You kidding me? FUCK yeah! I bought a new bong yesterday and I'm itching to try it."
Sort of like the argument that some words should be taboo in public society(fuck, shit, cock, etc), because some words need to be taboo otherwise it'd be like saying "Door, clock, time, computer, etc".
I'd like to see someone try and decipher my post.

Maybe decriminalise it so the government can't get their greasy hands on it and make money from it.
Also do the upstanding members of society really want more people baked all day roaming the streets? It is tiresome after so long.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
well, it depends on if you like smoking and your tired of not showing it to public, anytime you want and more easier to get our hand on w33d then you might think to vote yes, but if you just plain don't like smoking and wish people didn't do it either den you might vote no all depends on your point of view

I think it should be legalised! Here in Ireland its everywhere anyway so why not just go with the flow. It would save a lot of police time.

I don't think so. It would virtually remain the same as before, there would just be less people in prison. There was no change in the ammount of people who smoked pot when holland legalized. Those who want to do it now are doing it, it's not as if it's hard to find or anything.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
Don't forget that most of the US presidents where stoners! Im not saying that all drugs are good, but weed does kick ass. I wouldn't touch anything harder.
Your always going to have people who do and people who don't. It would just be cool if those like me who do, wouldn't have to deal with all the legal shit.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
More people would try it because it's legal, but since it's no longer illegal, quite a few people would stop having such a rush and stop doing it...it'd probably end up with a net gain of some, but not many more... I vote yes, even though I don't do it, if someone wants to be stupid enough to need drugs, let them.

I think it should be legal, on your private property or what ever where ur not disturbing anyone else, same laws on alcohol, and there woudnt be any problems, and for the people that do not smoke and say no, its being selfish and to my its as why do they care if im at home tokin, not there buisness and im not affecting them in a negative way, nor harming them..
Yes.

WRONG! Leagalize it so the Government CAN make money off of it and help pay for schools, roads and highways. I'de rather pay drugstore prices with extended taxes then those faggots charge on the street. Or are you a pot dealer who relies on the income? lets not push it. People smoking high are just as dangerous as drunks. anything can make you dangerous on the road. I heard that sleep disorders put people at more risk then someone with a .15 BAC. If we want the Government to say yes to legalizing pot, We have to promise it doesnt get abused by kids under 18 (or 21), that we dont drive DWI, that we don't smoke it in the homes while children are present (Though people do that with alcohol and stupid tobacco products) and whatever conditions they may ask. Basically, Sitting in your house or a backyard or a special club with smoke permits to enjoy our fine herb. I think thats something people can say yes to? do you agree. Yes? Good. Polls closed, Marijuana is now Legal except in the the state of Utah.

My friend was trying to tell me that if it becomes legalized the prices will actually go up. If it was legal, you could grow some bud right in your garden and not give a shit. I mean, how much would it cost to grow? I'm guessing not very much and you could just blaze all day long.

That is because your friend probably sells you the dope or to other people and doesnt want to lose his sidejob. Thats total bullshit. If it is mass produce with no Governments trying to stop it then the prices go down. Its very expensive now because of the fines and jailtime people have to avoid to get it. If it's legal, Its taxed, it has a small overhead and its gonna be cheap. Maybe not much cheaper but at least it will be clean and grown in a controlled enviorment with sanitary conditions and not shoved up a donkeys ass to get it across the border. Think about it. Its not a bad thing. it really really isnt. And to say everyone will be half baked out of their minds is bullshit. People go to work, come home. Smoke pot. Relax. Pass out. Get a great night sleep. Go back to work. It will be very very productive for the American Economy. Mexicans smoked it after a grueling day in the fields to relax. Its a fucking seditive.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
it seems to me like whenever they have someone come to my school to convince us not to do drugs, the only reason they had problems with (most) drugs is because they were illegal.
i mean if pot pot was legal people wouldn't have to do crazy/stupid things to get it, they could just walk down to the store and get some.
so yeah i think it should be legal, but there should be some restrictions on it, such as how much you could have at once, how old you had to be, etc.

No it shoudnt be legal. Todays socity coudnt handle pot becasuse there a bunch of pussys. Although i do belive it should be decrimlized so that small time pot dealers and kids that get busted dont have to do time or go though a bunch of un-nessery shit just for getting high.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
I Vote No, for many reasons.
It would be a smart move for the goverment to legalize it. They probably would legalize it, but you could only buy their product and if you were caught growing or selling anything else there would be heavy consequences. Thats what I would do if I was the goverment, they would make a ton of money.
I agree Marijuana isn't that bad of a drug, but its no better than lets say Tobacco. I think the goverment should tolerate marijuana more and lower the penalties for possession and for selling it. Marijuana is no worse than Alcohol, but I can not see a America with Marijuana being 100% legal with no restrictions. Its just not realistic.

Obviously. The drug itself is relatively nontoxic, far less harmful than many legal substances.
The anti-pot laws are doing far more harm to society than the drug itself.

Im a 40 year old man. have I ever been stoned in my life? What the fuck do you think. I havnt smoked much pot in years. I have smoked pot maybe 3 times in the 17 years I've been married. twice with one of my sister inlaws who is very productive and holds 2 BA degrees and has managed banks and hotels. I dont know if she smokes pot now with a kid but she used to toke up bigtime. My brothers (I suspect) still smoke weed and they're very sucessful and have a large home. Not just stupid burn out people smoke pot. Cops smoke it, fireman Smoke it, Politicians smoke it, I suspect Judges are toking up, Lawyers smoke it and if you say thats bullshit then you're extreemly small minded. Its our uptight society that has a problem with it. they lump it in with LSD, Crank, Coke, Heroin< and all the other fucking bullshit drugs that you find in the worst spots of our country. Yes, Pot is a sedative and it is a hallucinagin as is most sedatives. Xanax causes me to hallucinate. But then, so do some of my anti depressant meds they put me on. I am in no way a supporter of leagalizing drugs in this nation. I do not like people who snort or smoke coke in any form, Crank or other meths, heroin users or all of other shit floating around. Im never ok with kids getting high. this rule will not apply to people under the age of 18. They have to become adults before they can make that choice. I have morals and love for my country and the welfare of Children. So dont preach to me that marijuana is wrong with alcohol killing so many Got damn people in this country and the world. And what the fuck are cigarettes about? They dont get you high and they kill more people then all the other drugs combined. But they're LEGAL????

' I dont know about Washington, But it's a known fact that Jefferson had slaves and grew both cotton and hemp. You know them mother fuckers got high. Pot wasnt an issue until the 1930s. Its all about the Hemp industry vs Cotton and Lumber. Now with land being scarce, It only makes sense to legalize Hemp. More hemp can grow in place of cotton. it grows in the same areas that cotton can be found. Hemp grows 8 feet tall in some cases while cotton produces 3 1/2 foot bushes. Hemp can grow in a few months, cotton can take alot longer. Those that grow cotton would make far more money with hemp. Less machinery to pull it and a far less overhead. The only people who will be put out of business is maybe the mechanics who work on the machines to harvest cotton. And much of it is still done by hands by mexican farm workers. If you had more hemp growin in place of cotton, you would put alot more people to work. Thats good for the economy and for the nation. Hey Moby, I forgot to add. Im out of work right now. Im suffering from depression. Yet my family members who smoke pot after a long day at work seem to be doing just great. THATS REALITY my friend.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
Why are we even bothering? Here in the US, this is all just wishful thinking. Its an awesome thought, but you just have to come to grips that this will never happen.
I think laws have gotten more lenient, saying that in PA, with less then 30 grams, the punishment is 30 days max in prison (Probation for first offense) and 500 dollar fine. The fine is basicly the same as littering. Even in the Driving Under The Influnce of Drugs law, canabis is excluded.
I think our goverment realizes that it is not as bad as we all thought it was, it will just be too much of a process to just pull all laws against it.

Yea, I think it should. But about the driving thing, I drive better when buzzed on alcohol then high on weed. It does depend on the person because I know a person exactly like me with that. When high, I drive along the curb and dont notice/give a shit but I am more cautious, IN MY MIND.

You can't bother calling yourself a free society if you're told what you can and can't do with your body. It's that simple. If you're not hurting anyone else, there should be no reason for any drug to remain illegal for you to use.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
I just want Marijuana Tolerance right now. So what if its illegal, people do illegal things all the time. The Goverment has to realize that it is not more harmful then any other drug. They call it the gate way drug, but I have never wanted to do coke, heroin, or anything other hard drugs. I suspect the feeling of smoking marijuana is completly different from any of those drugs. I can drive perfectly fine high and my other motor skills aren't affected either. They need to stop brainwashing the people with all those commercials, how bout they run anti-cocaine commercials. They need to limit the penalties and just tolerated it more.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
yes. because i smoke, and i know it's not worse than alcohol, and weed is generally fine IN MODERATION
Also, it would hurt the black market badly, and I imagine legalization would decrease the amount of hard drug users due to inexposure to the black market

Long story short, legalize it. No point wasting our money on a drug war that doesn't have any effect except filling prisions with mostly non-violent drug users.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
I'll go with no.
Like someone said, to many stupid fucks would abuse the privilledge to a massive extent. there just isn't any question, people are stupid in general and won't be using common sense.
It isn't that I think marijuanna is bad or anything, but I know enough about human nature that in general, no one will use it in moderation or to a safe limit. Moderation is a good thing, and I totaly agree with the above poster on that. but still, I just don't trust most people to exersize moderation. all they'd end up doing is sit and get blazed all day, fuck work. not that alot of people are like this, but enough so it makes it much more dangerous for other people(as in, driving)

How is this country free, if some jackass in a white house can tell me what I can use or not? In order for us to be free we have to allow for the legalization of all drugs. I simply cannot see otherwise.

legalize it, and get all the pot smokers out of prison. I dont' want to spend my hard-earned tax dollars supporting some asshole who baked his brains out. But then the cops wouldn't have anything to do but beat up darkies.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
When was the last time you heard of someone dying from pot?
The USA Government does not want to legalize pot for many reasons.
The main one is that it would bring down the economy very bad. One acre of weed does more paper than an acre of trees. Weed can be used to cure many illneses. Did u know if u get weed and place it inside a bottle of alcohol, it would work so much better? Belive me, The cuts cure much faster.
Weed is an alternative to tobacco. Tobacco in theory is what makes the world the way it is now. Its a way to control the population. if everyone started using weed, everything would be too crowded.
There are many other reasons. Just too stoned right now to type them

I say yes, but there are so many reason besides getting high to legalize it...but on thing that it should be legalized is that Alchohol and Cigarettes are both worst for you then Cannabis will ever be but yet what illegal?
I think that the govt is better of many stuff legal but putting rules on it like smoking weed, and Prostitution, because how many people you know that get in trouble for posession of pot, this wouldnt be a factor any more if they just came out and put rules on it...
Hemp is good in general a

THATS REALITY my friend.
lol hemp isnt the same thing as what people smoke hemp has a very little THC in it you idiot you cant smoke hemp and get high yes im sure that there where many hemp fields beacuse hemp is more profiable and more durible i seriously doubt that when he said that he wanted a plantation he didnt mean a feild of hemp that is pointless and uterlly useless a feild of hemp and a feild of merijuana are not the same yes they are the same spicies of plant but NOT the same thing if your smokeing hemp you might as well be smoking tobaco know what your talking about before you make a fool of yourself EDIT:spelling [This message has been edited by happy_one_hit (edited 03-17-2006).]

At first I say yes.
Then I say no... it takes away some of the appeal, and would probably hurt the stoner culture, and make people placebo DOWN their highs.
But now I say yes again. I would so love just to be able to toke up and never ever have any paranoia, just be able to stroll around blaze and not worry about how I act or anything... it'd be kickass fun.

You aren't as smart as you may think, good sir. Hemp = Cannabis. Jefferson grew hemp, which just means he grew Cannabis. It doesn't say whether or not it was INDUSTRIAL hemp, or Cannabis sativa / indica.

Also do the upstanding members of society really want more people baked all day roaming the streets? It is tiresome after so long.
I second that. Also, if it was legal the government would regulate it and it most likely would have shit added to it.

yes it should be legalized i dont remember the exact numbers but in a study of people ages 15-25 usage was lower in Amsterdam than in the U.S. by a good bit(and thats only the people that admit to it in the U.S.) as it is i plan to move to a state where weed is legal
It was in my history book, then i researched it and it was so. Google it

There is no gateway drug. A lack of will power and common sense is a gateway. Ciggerettes are considered a gateway drug, as well as alchol. They are both legal. I don't think there is a gateway drug, just stupidity.

You're quite wrong. It's both. Anyway. What happens if we legalise pot? If you look at the good-and-bad, it just doesn't add up: GOOD: A new source of tax for the government Hemp can replace cotton and petrol with more environmentally friendly alternatives. However, since when does the government and the Right care about that?! Less people in jail -> Less tax money spent on prison system -> more tax money going to important things BAD: Difficult to tax Hemp can replace cotton and petrol, causing a massive shift of power Would have to release or pardon previous drug offenders Increased rates of driving under influence Nation becomes 10% lazier More people with killer tolerance to it People realise that drugs aren't bad - whatever you say, it IS a gateway drug Against many religions (GRR I HATE RELIGION) People might realise there's more to life than consumerism Would be a major flip-flop in policy, which as everyone knows, looks really, really bad for the Party. This is why I think it HASN'T been legalised. I still think it should be. The ideal solution would be to gradually decrease the penalties until it's basically decriminalised, but keep production illegal. Indeed, this process is happening as we speak, and is exactly what has happened in parts of Europe.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
Hell, in Ohio, it's basically decriminalized. A while back me and my band were playing in a garage, smokin it up. A cop came, opened the garage door, and asked where's the weed. We all just kinda said, what weed? The cop says I don't care if you smoke it, just don't lie. I'm here because of the noise. I like it.
So, yes.

Re: should we legalize marijuana?
Maybe if this country grew the fuck up and wasnt stuck in the mindset of "I'm gonna go get fucked up and get CRAZY!!" then it might have a chance to get legalized.
Pretty much I say we should, but only when the people of the country get their heads out of their asses and get responsible about getting high/drunk.

Decriminalization is not a bad idea.
Commercialization is different though, although a lot of money stands to be made by the gov't. Win-win situation.

The only reason its a "gateway drug" is because it is illegal. Where do people get weed? The black market and thats were all the hard shit is sold. People have been doing drugs for thousands of years so what makes the government think that if they legalize it now utter chaos will erupt? Marijuana isnt phsyicaly addictive and guess what happend to me? I loved it but ended up smoking it so much I just got tired/bored of it and could care less about getting high. I think its illegal because if it wasnt the police could fund themselves as well. That and the general public is brainwashed.
