Get a kitten or a puppy at an asylum, and use the money on vaccines/flea shampoo. I'm serious, those animals are just as good as any other, and they need people to take care of them.
In 2 weeks I have to put down at least a dozen cats, because nobody wants them, and I can't take care of them all myself. Think of this, and give one of the many many unfortunate animals in asyla all over the world a better life.

What are exactly looking for in a pet?
I would take a bird. At least you can teach it how to speak, and most landlords do not have a problem with them.
I currently have a bird, namely a monk (quaker) parokeet.

i dont know about birds, i mean dont get me wrong birds are pretty BA, but they can be the loudest most annoying thing when you want sleep or just a quiet afternoon, unless you get a parakeet or other exotic bird, but those usally are more expensive then 120 can get you |

Get a Ball Python. I have had my python, Murdoc, for about three years now. He is so sweet and they are very low maintenence pets. Feed em a rat every week and a half or so, clean out the tank maybe once every couple months and he is peachy. Very tame snakes that get to a reasonable and manageable size. Definitely research Ball (Royal) Pythons
