guitar amp tech
a week ago i ordered this: velleman guitar preamp
but i've been thinking about also buying this: 200W amp and making aguitar amp out of it. but will it need a preamp circuit, and could i use the preamp i have ordered already?(maybe with a patchcable?)
could i also direct the output from the amp to some normal speakers like these: link

Re: guitar amp tech
If the speakers are passive, you'll need to have them hooked up to an amp to power them.
If you want to make that amp on your own, make sure you have a fatty heatsink on that chip or it'll burn up. Try attatching it to the outer case for heat distribution.
As far as the preamp goes, if you've already oredered it, I would just try it with and without and see which better suits you. Some preamps (like vaccuum tube preamps) are designed to emphasise your sound before it leaves to your main amp.

Re: guitar amp tech
so the 200 watt amp doesn't have enough power for the speaker?
and the amp comes supplied with a heatsink, wich i am planing on having on the outside of the enclosure for better airflow.

No, it should be just fine. I was just pointing out that that speaker on it's own needs to be hooked up to an amp, regardless of application. So, if you hooked an iPod up to it, for isntance, nothing would happen.

Re: guitar amp tech

Re: guitar amp tech
It shouldn't make a difference. If you never want to use them seperate, then you might as well put them in the same box.. it's easier to carry around and store.
