No offense to Kai, but i think a more technically informed mod could have been chosen. Im sure he does fine in GPP, but one of our regulars should have been chosen.

I should have been more specific, we already have a robotics/electronics guy, lj. Trueborn seemed more for PC oriented stuff, which are most of the threads here, and a few times you posted in them you didnt seem like you knew what your were into. Remember the thing where you said that you can fry a chip by overclocking it? Way off on that one, at least with anything even remotely newer, not including that rare problem with some sA AMDs.

Im just looking through a list of your posts in T&T, and you do have your niche in audio and gaming shit, but this forum needs someone more PC hardware/software orented in general. BiOPSY, jakketch, or even Lundmark would have been a better spot filler for Trueborn.

EDIT: Oh well, at least we have someone who is around more to keep an eye on things.

Hazmat, i can assure you that Tru's knowledge in things computers/linux etc far out strips mine...infact i've learnt a lot from him over the years.

He may have given up 'security testing' in favour of music but his technological knowledge is still impressive.

Although i must admit that when Trueborn announced his departure i kinda thought Thoraton might be modded. Biopsy would have been my favourite except he really doesn't suffer idiots and a mod needs a few people skills to be able to give effective advice...even on a board where sunlight is considered a dangerous substance.

You CAN fry a chip by overclocking it, and you CAN fry a chip from improper cooling, even without a voltage increase. What the hell are you smoking?

And yes, some processors (mine included, and my GPU) have core slowdowns when they become exessevly heated.

Ill pull the waterblock off my overclocked P4 right now. Ill disable the auto shutdown at 65C too. It wont fry the chip.

In the context of that other thread, you made it clear that it was your opinion that a dead chip would be the result of any attempt at overclocking. So saying you CAN fry it isnt generally true, unless the user is referring to some bizzare hardware configuration that is old enough to be without the modern failsafes, in which case its unlikely they would be asking in the first place.

But ok, thats old news. I know that all the others "agreed" on you as mod, ok whatever, its just theres been some others here that have put in their time. Its not like you dont have anything else to mod. Someone new would have been nice.

Actually, since I am no real typing expert, the banging on the keyboard part and cussing is about right.

I would imagine newer cores may not suffer the consequences as older chips would, though with any hardware, I personally wouldn't be trying it just to test the theory.

I personally believe if the potential risk of damage wasn't in fact involved, we wouldn't have failsafes like modern boards that will cut the power or on laptops step the frequency due to heat and or usage, etc.

I think someone is having a serious brain malfunction on this one. Kai as a T&T mod? No. Toraton, yes, even BiOPSY, and especially jackketch. Kai, no.

Also, in another matter, conlyn is a mod for Anime, and if you know conlyn by his IRC persona, you would see the insanity here.

Eh, I hate to be the kind of person to start drama, but I really think Kai would be better suited as a mod for R&R since he really knows about that kind of stuff. Besides, I think that forum really needs a non-pedantic moderator.

I'm all for having a third mod, too. And I'm not doubting any of Kai's knowledge on electronics, I'm simply saying that I think there are places where he would be better suited. We have other regulars here that would be better cast for a T&T position.

Either way, it's not really my choice, and I wish this forum the best of luck.

Thank you but even if it had been offered i would have declined. As i'm sure Jeb,LJ,Cense,TBV,biopsy,toraton etc and the other 'old hands' can confirm, while i maybe be helpful and kind at times, i really do NOT have the technical knowledge to mod this forum.

jackketch, while you may not know as much as Trueborn or LJ, y ou are still well versed in the technical world. You may not be able to hold a conversation in everything that goes here you still know how appropriate it is in the forum.

But foremost, you're willing to help people (IE: The mailing of linux cd's) that seems to be number one (personally).

Either way, congratulations to Kai and Toraton.
