Default Joy Division

Joy Division. One of the greatest 80s Post punk bands ever.

Too bad Ian Curtis died.

New Order is ok, in a disco kindish way.

Happy mondays. or was it Blue Mondays? Go rent "24 hour party people" the 2003 version.

Blue Monday was New Order.

Both bands are great though.

OK thanks, so it was Joy Division and Ian hung himself (Or was murdered.. thats another forum) and then the band decided to form an all synthasizer band and made New order which then became Blue Monday? Is Blue Monday still around?

Agreed. Though, everyone is either leans slightly more to the Joy Division side or the New Order side.

I agree. They, so far, are the only band to really pull off the moody/introspective thing in a post-punk format. I mean, I'm a huge Depeche Mode fan, but Joy Division did it so much better.

Joy Division were probably the best band ever.

You know, that's the first time I've ever heard someone say that when Ian Curtis killed himself, he was actully being murdered. I guess nobody else ever said that because it's a bizarre and nonsensical idea.

Edit: Just noticed -

They weren't really an 80's band - they lasted from 1977/8 to May 1980. On the other hand, their sound was incredibly influential throughout the 80s (and still is - perhaps even more influential recently than it was in the 90s?).

Edit 2: Erk.

No:

First there was Warsaw, who formed in 1977, which was Ian Curtis, Stephen Morris, Peter Hook, and Bernard Sumner. Then they changed their name to Joy Division. In 1980 Curtis killed himself. They had agreed not to use the name Joy Division unless all 4 of them were in it, so after that Morris, Hook, and Sumner changed their name to New Order, and recruited Gillian Gilbert to play keyboards. New Order aren't entirely synth, but they did use them more than Joy Division did.

Blue Monday is a song by New Order, their biggest hit. New Order are still around, but Gilbert seems to have retired.

You might be confusing things with The Happy Mondays, who were an entirely different band (although they were also from Manchester) who were on a lot of drugs.

I don't see why, I definitely don't prefer one or over the other.
