Canadians consume more energy per capita.
Consumption per capita Units: Kilograms of oil equivalent (kgoe) per person per year
United States 7,920.9 Canada 7,999.5 http://tinyurl.com/n3q4g
Bitch.

So? Your whole continent is wasteful. There's no reason to boast. The fact that Canadians are on average worse bares no relation to the OP's statistics, which you didn't address at all. [This message has been edited by moby_dick (edited 03-13-2006).]

Re: One American consumes as much per capita energy as do...
Maybe the average American. I don't. I hardly drive, I don't eat that much since Im old and my metabalism has slowed down.
You have to realize that Americans live in a slightly harsher climate then Mexicans, Indians and alot of other third world countries. Notice most third world countries are located in warm or hot zones. They dont need fuels or wood to burn to keep warm. Americans do and in some states, Winter can last 7 months. We do more then our share of driving because the car is an American Icon. Its not just used to pick up supplies but as an enjoyment. It always has, so Yes we burn fuel in that sense.
America used to grow 4 times the food it consumed. We export alot of wheat and cattle. We consume more grain because alot of it is used to feed livestock.
So it's really an unfair assesment to say we're greedy when it is Us who feeds and supplies much of the world.

Re: One American consumes as much per capita energy as do...
So what if we consume more, atleast we use birth control. If we didn't have this lifestyle we'd still be living in caves. That's not to say we shouldn't conserve or clean up pollution, but consumption by itself is not a bd thing.

Re: One American consumes as much per capita energy as do...
We consume more energy, because we actually have energy to use. A lot of people in those countries don't have as much energy, or money to get energy as Americans do.

Umm, no we wouldn't. You can redesign infrastructure and transit to be orders of magnitude more efficient than the current car culture is without having to regress back to the stone age.
