BB zipgun 1 year old now...
For anyone who is unaware of the BB zipgun... or has forgotten... here is it's story... not very nice one, but here is how it cam about...
in the beginning of 2001, Singapore was introduced to airsofts, those made in china. and cheaply sold to anyone who has the money ... even a 3 year old kid could afford, and buy it...
later in july of 2001, one kid went stealing a airsoft from a toy shop... which caught police attention...
they later banned and confiscated airsofts from everyone...
further in august i bought a box of party popper...
i was then keeping over 2000 to 3000 BBs without a gun...
an idea came through.... 'since party popper can shoot papers, why not BBs...'
i started by inserting a straw into the party popper... and some paper into the straw...
the paper flew off with quite some speed, but the straw cracked open...
at home, i thought of a 'cannon' design...
the larger part of the popper was cut off... and the straw was straped with the fuse of the popper...
Then the straw was reinforced with tapes...
the first BB zipgun was born the first, intended target, is an empty CD box... (a normal airsoft can barely crack it's plastic casing)
the BB went straight through the case, the power is more than what i wanted...
back then, the zipgun has no accuracy, it was basically a party popper which shoot BB...
after, the 2 planes hit the WTC, terrorism rised, i was forced to take up a form of defence... i was carrying it in my pocket...
My friends, fascinated by the wierd looking thingy. requested me to test fire....
i fired it against a locker's door, the BB crushed into pieces upon impact, the steel locker was marked with a small dent...
'holey shit, it has spark comming out' the first word from my friend
later, in persue for accuracy... i straped the BB zipgun (tube thingy then) to a broken rubberband gun (another homemade)
the string was tied to a ring to form the trigger...
BB zipgun, MK0 was born... it did not have much accuracy, due to the straw slipping off during fire...
a modified MK0 was made, it has a top cover as a guide, and fixed trigger guard... only the tube is needed to be taped and a ring to be tied...
MK1S1 was born...
Due to it's long barrel, it bacame bulky.. it's barrel and guide cover was cut down in another building of MK1S1... the cut-down MK1S1 was named MK1S2...
then, BB Started running out as i also used it as pea shooter ammo...
due to the lack of BB, an alternative ammo is needed
wax was shaped into slugs, and wires was straped to the straw to rifle the barrel...
6MM WAX rounds was created...
BUT until then, a whole Zipgun is discarded after every shot... it's a huge material waste...
meanwhile, i bought 5mm wide straws... not very fitted for a BB...
i tried making 5MM WAX rounds for the straw, but power is inferior...
the party popper's fuse was taken out and a bead replaced the fuse case (fuse case is part from the popper then)
the bead is straped to the straw, then straw is straped to MK2...
MK2 was a modified failure design from past (it failed due to lack of strong frame, a stapler gun solve it)
MK2 is basically a popper gun with exposed popper, and trigger design (exposed for easy reloading)
the bead, unlike usual fuse case, was too light... the pressure built up blew the bead onto my face, but due to straping, the bead was much less harmless...
the 5mm design was later made into cartriage... a 6mm BB was sticked to the mouth of the casing...
6 x 35 mm BB rounds was born... it was fired in M1S1, a carbine design to fire rounds with minimal material waste... (not very effective)
MK3S0, a MK2 with a solid backing (prevents bead from flying) was created...
But the wide trigger made firing hard, and the frame not sturdy...
MK3S1 was made... the trigger was made like a T shape... pressing th top of the T and the bottom of T pull the fuse behind the grip...
MK3 was the first 'handgun' designed to fire cartriage rounds...
at late october of 2002, MK3 failed, due to the loose string...
at late December 2002, a design from M1S1 was added it is a loop at the bottom of MK3's T-trigger
the trigger pull length is reduced from 2 inch to 1.3 inch after testing...
MK4 is borned...
THE BEAD, which a failure in MK2, as which the bead was blown off... now made a new idea... and blow-back design is now in the way...
casualties of BB zipgun...
6 lobsters---all died basically test fire samples... 1 hit by the eyes 2 hit in the head 1 hit in the lung 1 hit in the stomach 1 head was blown off (small lobster)
my friend--- injured his left arm by an MK1 during a shootout... i was surprised that at 5 metre he could still bleed from that hit...

Re: BB zipgun 1 year old now...
I hate to break it to you, but the 'pen zipgun' has been around far longer than one year. My take on the design is in the original A Files (which hasn't been updated for more than a year). We have been making the things from pens and brass tubing since middle school, and I have to admit that even I didn't come up with the idea - Someone else told me many years ago.

Why were you executing lobsters anyway?

Re: BB zipgun 1 year old now...
pretty cool idea gun-nut, but a "pen zipgun" is a GUN made by juvinile punks for many years, it involves a steel tube witha 22. bullet in it, and a crappy spring/nail setup so when the bent nail is pulled the other nail strikes the bullet and fires it
sorry

Re: BB zipgun 1 year old now...
They aren't. I find that these work much better with two or three poppers loaded. This runs the risk of blowing your gun up, though, which really stings your fingers...

Re: BB zipgun 1 year old now...
i used straw with close bore to the BBs, which mean the BBs are 'squeezed' out of the barrel... but the tightness does not cause much drag to the BB so that it slows down...
the cartriage can be loaded much faster... than the conventional 'tube' 1 year ago... without any material waste like extra tapes
today, i just managed to cut the fuse up a little... and discovered that the fuse can be shortened to 15mm long...
the gun is actually a pistol thingy loaded with the zipgun...
the shorter fuse increased penatrating power by approx 30 to 40%...
there is no recoil from that gun...
and the pistol thingy is accurate up to 20 to 25 feets... consider i made it out of nearly junks, the performance is acceptable...
also note that singapore banned airsofts... and firearms (needless to say)
the most powerful shooter you can get out there is maybe a dart gun...
the BB zipgun is totally illegal, and you have the power at range
lobsters, needless to say, they are testing for penatrating power in flesh...
the BB once go 1 inch deep in, and that could be a rough estimation on humans
The MK4 currently weights around 100 grams... and it is close to palm-size
there is no metal parts (bypass metallic detectors)
so is the ammunition completely made of plastic...
and yes, party popper is powerful, not really high-power, but considering it can sent BBs through tin cans...
with only a palm-size weapon...
you only need to find straws with close bore to 6mm.. and some good ideas how guns work...
then with some taping, you can convert most energy used to launch papers... to launching a BB
the power of the party popper does not matter, it matters how well you tap the energy from the burst...
i may only tapped 50% of the energy since there may be gas leakage through the fuse hole...
but if i could increase the gun's effectiveness to 60 or 70 % the power would be much better...
see old cannons ? they dont tap energy well enough...
if you compare the HVAPFSDS to the old siege cannons, the gunpowder used in the HVAPFSDS might be lesser...
but the power is mugh higher...
considering the sabot design (less air resistance)
and the close smooth bore
compared to a much rough bore and cannon balls...
