battery blasting cap
if i drilled a hole in the negitive terminal of an AA battery just big enough for a fuse and empitied out the battery out and filled it with AP or AP puddy, would it have enough power to set off AN found in instant cold packs??
ps. if there is a big(er) shrapinal risk, how far away would i have to safly be to just detonate the cap?

Re: battery blasting cap
no, you should not put forign chemicals in a battery, they could spontaniously combust. Also there is a minimum of AN that is required to reliably explode.

Re: battery blasting cap
The guy above me is right and you need a booster to detonate a secondary as insensitive as ammonium nitrate. Maybe if you sensitized it a bit by making ANFO or ANAL or APAN. But id be careful about APAN...

Re: battery blasting cap
Chemical residue in the battery could be a very bad thing when it comes in contact with the acetone peroxide. You could use a clean metal casing about the size of a battery and you'd have something. If you pressed the AP in it you could get away with initiating a moderate amount of ANFO with it. Straight AN, though, probably won't be detonated.

Re: battery blasting cap
Nitromethane, as I recall. For those of you interested in obtaining pure nitromethane, by the way, I have heard unconfirmed that R/C helicopter fuel is very close to 100 percent concentration instead of the usual 20 percent castor oil and methanol mix used in R/C cars.
