muzzlebreaks/flash suppresors/compensators
do any of u people out there that own high accuracy high power rifles believe in the effects of these things? i know that there used on the assault rifle all over the world so as to not make such a bright"bloom"of muzzle flash at night and the brakes are generally used to kill muzzle rise for quik follow up shots but whats a compensator for?are they the same thing or different? let me know about any experiences with them

Re: muzzlebreaks/flash suppresors/compensators
A compensator usually helps to control the recoil and muzzle rise. I've shot some hard kicking (.44 mag, .454 casull, small .357 mags) revolvers with compensated barrels and the difference is fairly noticeable. Some designs make the gun a little bit louder due to the gases being redirected, but most aren't too bad about this.

Re: muzzlebreaks/flash suppresors/compensators
muzzle-brake/muzzle-break/flash supressor are opening at the muzzle to redirect the main blast from the main muzzle...
like a rocket, redirecting blast to the side would give a smaller propelling force...
in this case, the blast which propell the gun at the muzzle (causes recoil) is reduced. thus the gun dont kick that much...
get a lightweight spring gun, and shoot it with 2 finger (holding the gun with the two finger, 1 at the butt/grip, 1 at the trigger)
you would find this spring gun have a small kick when you hold it with this little support, but if you make a muzzle-brake out of paper/ cardboard to compensate the gun ... shooting the gun with 2 finger will have lesser kick/recoil...
note: a muzzle is basically a short barrel extension with a larger bore... (it dont drag the bullet but redirect the main burst)

Re: muzzlebreaks/flash suppresors/compensators
I was tempted to add a muzzle break on to my AR15 but it really isn't nessacary even under rapid fire conditions.
Since it's a postban, technically i cannot add a flash surpressor but i really don't see any need. Although there is some flash (espically when rapid firing) it's not at all unbearable.
Perhaps if i were shooting .300win-mag i might wanna comp it? =)

Re: muzzlebreaks/flash suppresors/compensators
Why do people want to tame hard kicking rifles? That's half the fun of shooting it. Well, .50 bmgs might be an exception.

Re: muzzlebreaks/flash suppresors/compensators
While I am not a fan of the modern Browning/Winchester company the idea of the now discontinued boss system and the currentley produced CR system was great. It allowed the barrel to be tuned to the bullet and load, as opposed to trying to find the best load for ones rifle.
