The good points are that it's an HK and that it's a MK 23. It's a kickass gun.

The bad points are that it's an HK and a MK23. That means that it's expensive as hell.

Generally anything made by heckler and koch kicks ass.

This is a long barrel .45 (5.87"), overall length is close to 10"

.45's perform best when shot out of 4.5" + barrels,

The improvements over it's little brother the HK USP TACTICAL (one step down from the Mark 23) would be,

The slide rails are throughout the frame, instead of the slide tabs on other USP's.

The decocker is seperate from the safety and when decocked it doesn't SLAM down, thus creating noise.

The finish on the gun is supposively a lot more tolerant to extreme conditions.

On average the MARK 23 alone sells for about $1600.00 to $2000.00 US dollars, tweleve round magazines go for about $70-100.00 US dollars each.

Downsides, this gun is huge and of course, rather pricey.

I have seen them go for around $1400 used, but suggested retail is $2200.

Yes we're refering to the HK MARK 23 MOD 0 (the civilian verision of the HK SOCOM).

However i think we're caught up on,

Syphon, You're reference to the BB GUN verision,

Whereas rlpinca and myself are refering to the .45ACP verision =)

yes i know. i just gave a link to the bb version since most of us dont have $2200 to drop on a pistol and most of us would like to play with a mk23 even if all we can do it with is bb's. i only ask because i though he may have been talking about the tactical version which is smaller and has a few slight ergonomic changes

I sincerely doubt he even knew the step down (usp tactical) from the mark twenty three even existed.

One bad point about the MK23 Mod 0 is it's size. It is about as large as a Desert Eagle, and thus not user-friendly to people with small hands. Another thing is that it has a couple more controls than it really needs. It has a safety and a decocker, a bit redundant to say the least. Although I cannot verify this, I've heard that these pistols used by US special forces have been shelved for the time being due to reliability issues. I've also heard that the Beretta M9 pistols are crap, so take this information with a grain of salt.

From my understanding the operators who used the MARK 23 or HK SOCOM (basically same thing) commonly refered to the pistol as "the brick". I heard rumors that they opted to go with the HK USP TACTICAL (shorter n lighter verision) when they needed a supressed forty five.

The M9 is slowly being replaced by the M11 (basically the Sig Sauer P228 but with government markings). Although sig sauer only recently lowered their LEO/MILITARY pricing, which were always a bit step, espically in comparision to beretta or glock.

I've heard operators say "you can't take a sig swimming, although the hk stands up to more abuse". Which is true, sig's don't like water and can rust up on you with the quickness.

The HK were never shelved due to relability issues. During operation unduring freedom, some pictures of us soliders in the mountains of afghanistan clearly show a mark 23 holstered on their side.

Take MARK 23 vs USP 45, the reason why the decocker is seperate from the safety is to give them a "quiet decock". Whereas the USP 45 slams down making a loud click noise. (well not that loud, but anything is too loud if you don't wanna be heard or seen)

The only thing redundant is a safety, since they never use them =)

the 92fs/m9/92f brigadier whatever you want to call it is not shitty at all. i have one and its a great gun for the money. sure its not the very best pistol out there but its hard to beat for the money.

calling the 92fs shitty is like calling a mercedes shitty becuse there are diablos out there. sure the diablo is a better car but its offensivly expensive and way overkill when picking up sluts. a mercedes will get you the same pussy as long as theres no guy with a diablo down the street. its the same thing with the 92fs. there are better pistols but no one equips grunts with them so it does the job

Berrettas are stupid wop dego pistols. Aluminum frames suck, they get loose too quickley. One exception is the SIG because of the length of rail that the slide rides on.
