Default BRUCE LEE

i would just like to inform you silly people that bruce lee was not only an actor but the best fighter in the world.
if he wasnt, then how did he kick the shit out of everyone who had a fight with him.
and i dont think there are many martial artists in the world that could break a 3 inch board with the tips of there fingers, or kick a titan kicking back hard enough to break the chain.
i have said enough.

All that is well and good, but would you not have done better to put this in the Martial Arts thread where the argument on this is taking place?

I heard that when Bruce Lee was a kid growing up in the mean streets of China( I don't know which province exactly), He learned his fighting skills the 'hard way'. He ended up joining a gang and got involved in delinquency so his parents sent him to the US to see if he could 'cool off'.

Don't know any other details at the moment, although I heard from a friend of mine that his style, Jeet Kune Do is not 'kung fu' at all (I take it that it was not Shaolin derived).

Still, I won't deny his skills as a fighter. Just take a look at his 1-inch punch for example.

That the funniest thing Ive ever heard, Bruce Lee said himslef, "A board does not hit back", thank you you just said Bruce Lee is a good fighter, but his teaching proved the contrary of the arguments you used to say hes a good fighter.

Theres a reason why there are classes for full contact and others for braking bricks and ice, just cause someone is good at braking bricks doesnt mean hes a good fighter.

And if Bruce Lee did fight a lot of people and won, can I have the proof? I know people who respect Bruce Lee but they said he never fought, you just said that cause you think he did Logan, you dont know if he did, you have proof? What the movie? If your a realfan you should know a lot of things are madeup. Theres a reason why its not a documentary movie.

Hah kick hard on a bag, now train to put that into a ring and actually aim for someone, as I said Bruce Lee did never fight in a ring, wich means he had no experience, a lot of real ring fighter could beat him sorry to tell you this, you know even fat guys with no cardio at all break bricks, are they good fighters? No.

Zero the Inestimable
what d you think? Your a smart and logical guy, you post samrt topics and reply like it shoukld have been, your opinion will count a lot, seriously think about it, all I said it does make sense.

What d you think?

Logan it may be hard to change your mind, but its the truth think about.

ALso about the punches on the other thread, Bruce Lee may have done boxing, but never fought in a ring, it doesnt matter if he can throw a well performed tachnical punch if he cant use it against some who has fought and used it in a ring and know how to move around and has experince.

Bruce Lee made some good stuff and theorys, and trained a lot, but sorry to tell you this, it does not mean he could have been a great fighter.

I'd say the man had impressive strength and dexterity and was more than likely a competent fighter. Was he unbeatable? No. I'll illustrate with the quote mentioned above about boards not hitting back. In his training he had to have picked up enough to know how to handle himself in a fight, but that does not mean in any way that he was "the best fighter in the world". I'm sure there are quite a few that could beat him.
I don't see the logic behind treating him like a living god or something. When you get right down to it, his skills were beating up untrained and unwashed thugs in China, making movies, and breaking things to impress people.

Yeh thats what I bleieve also, thx for the reply, and untrained opponent will really have less chance against any trained martial artist, but against well trained fighter who fight in the ring full contact its another thing.

Ok Logan, seems like you have nothing to say, watch this video when downloaded
http://www.sherdog.com/download.cfm?dl=highlights/24-PeterAertsHQ.zip

and maybe then you will make this guy your next Bruce Lee, because he KOs people with one kick, oh BTW its nothing special, this guy is just a K-1 fighter, if you want to I can show you a lot more guys that do well in those tourneys. You can make all of them invinsible, but their not, they all lost.

Watch this and tell me if you know or saw anything about the fact that Bruce Lee could hang with those guys, nothing, Bruce Lee did well on a punching bag and bricks n stuff. Of ocurse he may have done some valuable things and theorys, but that doesnt make him invinsible or even a good fighter.

I agree with Mack that some of the modern MMA/NHB fighters today would just annihilate Bruce. Bruce as far as I know never fought in the ring professionally, although I have heard of him being challenged by various fighters, but I have heard varying stories on the outcomes.

The one thing that everyone agrees upon is that he started the "modern" martial arts movement. Bruce Lee's theory on martial arts is as follows IMHO:

1. Crosstrain in as many martial arts as possible.
2. Extract from what you study that is most useful to YOU individually, and create your own fighting style per se, and discard what is useless.
3. The individual is more important then the system.

and some other points that I can't think of right now.

He would put as "Have your style as no style" and "your form as no form". I think he was a philosophy major, it really shows in his writing.

I recommend reading the following by Bruce Lee: http://www.sageartsunlimited.com/articles/MA_Bruce_Liberate.html

Yeh his theory is good, I asked some dudes who do karate what they think of him, they said they consider him a great philosopher and a good fighter, but not an awesome fighter, simpoly a good one.

Bruce Lee said to train in a lot of arts, but if he was here, he would have said, wich ones are the ones you should train in, because ith has been proven a few years after his death, Judo,(B)JJ, Boxing, Kyokushin, Muay Thai, Kick Boxing, Wrestling, San Da. And few other I dont remeber heh, or are not to be reached here in America I guess.

This is for the people who want to train and asked for some good martial arts, well here you have a list.

Kyokushin must be mixed with boxing, or else the hand work will screw you up. PLz dont ask why, because they already have boxing in Muay Thai and kick Bpxing, why another art that trains in kicks but has no boxing but only straight punches?

Simply because kyokushin when mixed with boxing has proven the be effective against Kick Boxing and Muay Thai, Kyokushin fighers are recognised by their good leg kicks againt Muay Thai and Kick Boxing, yes TaeKwanDo will not make you focus on your legs, well yes it will vbut so much that it will be useles, kyokushin is the art that will help you use ypour legs like a boxers hand, not TaeKwanDo, TaeKwanDo has never proven its effectivnes in full contact.

TaeKwanDo is the more most practiced sport in America, and not one single name is there to prove its effectivnes compared to Kyokushin, Muay Thai, Kicboxing, wich are rare sport compared to TaeKwanDo.

And as always it depends from your teacher, especially in Kyokushin, it has to be oriented towards full contact a lot, cause kyokushin has a lot of other thigns involved.

Bruce Lee was an awesome fighter, but because of hollywood, he is now forgotten. Jet Li or Jackie(y) chan are now comming into the spotlight.

Having spent much time on stage, I know how fake acting is.

Breaking boards does not show skill in Martial Arts. To have skills you must have the following:

Strength
Endurance
Respect
DEdication
Brains!

YOu need strength to endure your training, so you can learn train harder. YOu need to respect your Sense(SP) Kyoshi, or Sa Bu Nim(SP) so you can make yourself a dedicated person to your Dojo. You also need brains to know when and where to start a fight.
