Re: crossbow with magazine
i think it could, but you'd have to make special bolts/projectiles, to be shot from it, cause you dont want mad huge magasines and shit. you gotta keep it compact, though crossbow bolts are rather compact, but whats the point? Im mean just use a gun, or if you have some medievil bow and arrow fetish, use a hunters bow. Tightest thing ever, im thinking of going hunting with on and maybe buying one, cause i've only shot them in my friends back yard and into the ocean with shitty arrows. but yea...

Re: crossbow with magazine
The Poor Man's James Bond Vol. 2 page 22 has a repeating crossbow that feeds from the top.

Re: crossbow with magazine
don't you love it how gordon just pulls the string back like it's no big deal? must be a pretty low powered cross bow(although it kicks so much ass).

Re: crossbow with magazine
Iv played the demo of Half Life Thoughtthat was tops going to get the game soon mabey. Anyone played Perfect dark, well in it is a semiauto crossbow that you can fire very fast and it has a five shot internal magazine I know that was a game and you can do anything in games but magazines would be easy to make, semiauto would be impossible. I read this book on sas selection and in the weapons section they had a picture of a crossbow with scope and the caption said it was effective to 100m wOOt! was only single shot though didnt see a magazine.

Re: crossbow with magazine
What if you had a pneumatic cylinder to cock the crossbow for each shot? That might give you semiauto fire.

hmm, that could be possibly. but youd need a lot of pressure from the cylinder. plus it would have to actually last for a decent number of shots before being refilled. maybe pump action would be a better way to go. pump the cylinder like a super soaker, which then lets you fire a couple of shots semi auto.

Re: crossbow with magazine
but automatically pull the string does not mean semi-auto, u need to make the arrow in place...
the magazine thing is hard, making the arrow falling into firing position is hard....
as for the repeating crossbow which load from top, i once saw on TV about ancient chinese crossbow with a whole box of arrows ...
unfortunately the x-bow cant be aimed so precision is the problem... imagine a magaizine on top means u cant aim

Re: crossbow with magazine
yes i have heard about the chinese repeating crossbow. it was crank powered i believe and top feeding. i don't think they needed to worry about accuracy cause they were shooting into huge masses of people.

Re: crossbow with magazine
I've heard that the things exist, but they are small, expensive, and not very powerful. Supposedly for competition target shooting or something. In any event, making a repeating crossbow is much more diffuclt than making a repeating firearm because there are many more variables. Not only does the clip have to move the next bolt into place, but it also has to line it up with the string and be able to release it when you fire. The third hurdle comes when you have to recock the bow. Crossbows are 1:1 input/output devices - The bow fires with X amount of force, which means you have to put X amount of force back into it to pull the string back. At that rate, making anything that could pull the string back for you would be better put to firing the arrow itself. Then you'd be done with it.

Re: crossbow with magazine
Have any of you played Age Of Kings
in that game thw chinese have a unti called chunoku or something like that and they have crossbows that they seem to wind like a jack in the box, i know its just a game but aok follows historical facts well. Could that actually work.
Also in gladiator the woman on the chariot has a double shot one which spun round to fire a second shot

That's called a cho-no-ku, I think, and I haven't a clue how it works.

Re: crossbow with magazine
There are blueprints for one somewhere out there on the 'net. Believe I still have this stuff on my old computer... Don't remember where exactly I got them from, but you might check Frugal's library.

Re: crossbow with magazine
Whoever put that together seriously needs to recalibrate his scanner. I can almost make out what he's trying to get across. A crank operated crossbow of that design would take a massive amount of strength to fire, I think. If it's going to have any real power you will have to crank it just as hard as it fires the bolts, as I said earlier. The only feasible method I see is gearing the crank down for more torque, which would mean that it takes more than one crank per shot.
