 full tang sword
hey all, has anyone ever heard of a full tang ( sp ) sword? a friend of mine wants me to find out about it for him (he is illiterate i guess and cant do it himself) he would like to know how to make one, and im a little curious myself as to WTF it is. thanks

Full tang means that the tang runs through the entire length of the handle to the pommel. The tang is the metal extension of the blade to which the grip is attached.

In a full tang sword the blade and handle are once piece, so to speak, and there is an unsharpened length of the blade running all the way though the handle. This gives the sword much more stability than simply bolting the blade to the handle or what have you.
Most commercial swords aren't full tang, for reasons I can't fathom, but all of the battle worthy ones on the market are.
