Default Real Gernade?

How could you tell if what you have is a real gernade besides exploding it? How heavy is it or anything along those lines.

Alot of the practice grenades have holes in the bottom of them. You can also unscrew(carefully) the top part and see if there's a blasting cap attached. Then look inside of the greanade and see if it's hollow.

Practice grenades are made thicker so that they weigh the same as the real ones. So you can't really tell by the weight.

The replica ones are usually lighter, as well as emptied real ones.

Real grenades are heavy, which is something a lot of people aren't prepared for when they first pick one up.

If you can tell me the type you think you have I can tell you whether or not it is a "live" grenade.

Pineapple?
Baseball?
Smoke?
Demolition?
CS?

Look it over and let me know any markings, stripes, colors, etc. DO NOT attempt to unscrew the hammer/detonator! If it is live you probably will not live to see what is in there. Get back to me here and I will tell you what you need to know.

Grenades are damn heavy Iv held a defused grenade from ww2 a friends grandfather was in the war or something like that. Even thoung its not live you could peg it at someone and injure them pretty bad.

They're designed to be able to be dissassembled. As long as you don't release the spoon, then the fuse won't ignite. To release the spoon, you have to remove a clip and a pin. Atleast on the ones the military currently uses.

A real grenade has a green handle, not a blue one. This is not to say that somebody has not rigged a trainer to go off like a real one. I would procede with caution if I were you. Carefuly unscrew the fuze body assembly and pull it out of the grenade body. If there is 1 1/2" of metal cylinder sticking out of the fuze body it is not live, however if there is a shiny cylinder extending further you have an armed fuze body at least.

Mr. Rlpinca, do you think more than a handful of these guys can do that without killing everyone in the house? I was only trying to keep curiosity from killing the kewl. If he can tell me markings, type, and maybe the weight, I can tell him live or dud. What are all these books for if I don't get to use them?

Speaking of grenades, how the hell did they arm potato mashers?

I seem to recall that they were armed by bashing the handle against something, thus firing the primer and lighting the fuse. I don't seem to recall where I got this notion from, however, so I am likely wrong.

That is how I'd do it, though.

There was a small chain and ring that extended from the bottom next to the wooden handle. A tug on this started the ball rolling.

See? I knew I was wrong.

Why do all of the museum pieces seem to omit this component?

Grenades from WW2? Well.. they didnt have C7's as standard issues also but now they do. Grenades now arent as heavy.. better chemisty, lighter casing, bigger explosive..
