As a matter of fact, yes.

There's an episode of Junkyard Wars wherein one of the teams builds an air pressure pumpkin cannon. The workings were quite simple:

A metal tank is secured to a large (12", at least) butterfly valve. The valve is in turn welded to a metal pipe used as a barrel. There's a schrader valve or similar on the tank through which it is pressurized with an air compressor or pump.

They had rigged the handle on the butterfly valve with a tire innertube such that with to intervention the valve would snap into the open position. With the handle pulled back and held in place with a wooden wedge the valve could be opened very quickly by knocking out the wedge with a sledgehammer.

Net result: One airborne pumpkin.
