Default Calico Guns

What does everyone think about the Calicos? Rifles and handguns. I think theyre kind of a waste of money because im not sure who would want to shoot and load a 50-100 round 9mm clip. It would be fun but it would be over fast cuz when i have HC Mags i tend to go crazy with em and am outof ammo before i know it.

Never shot one but I've heard that (at least the early versions) had reliability problems. Lots of FTFs, FTEs and *gasp* parts deciding to explore the world on their own. The first series were chambered in .22lr so I can see why they might have had some problems. No idea about the current quality of production or even if they're still being made. One thing I remember hearing is that factory NIBs came with a mag loading tool. Look around in Shotgun News... you might be able to find one. If your interested in buying one, they usually have a couple over at www.gunbroker.com

Hope this helps

To give you an idea of what kind of gun the calico is I will break it down for you.

An unused preban factory mag costs $350.
The new in box rifle with one magazine itself wholesales at $450. (retail=$500-$650+

The value of the rifle can be expressed like this:

$450-$350=$100

It is a hundered dollar rifle.

This is a situation where you truly get what you pay for.

The thought of being able to shoot a hundred rounds without reloading sounds fun, but for a magazine fed weapon it's just not practical because of the limits of the spring. A belt fed gun is much more fun anyways.

So there ya have it... a much more reliable carbine would be a grandfathered tommygun. The new ones won't accept the old full sized drums. The ones they sell on their website are crippled to only accept 10 rnd ones. WEAK!
Or you could step up into the world of HK. Take a look at the USC. Shoots .45 ACP, legally modifiable to 30 rnds, light as hell (less than 3 kilos) and VERY managable recoil.

Well i've never seen a USC modified, to accept what? Para Ordanance P14 (14rnd .45) mags?

You're probabaly thinking of the HK SL8 (looks just like the USC) and fires .223, people have modified the magwell so it can accept hicapicity AR15 (20, 30, 40rnd, etc) magazines instead of the gay 10 rounders.

However according to my knowledge this is technically illegal.

Then again no one really gives a shit, untill someone uses a illegally modified gun to commit a crime so it seems.

YES! thank you very much. one of my friends and i were in an argument about this and i said the gun sucked ass but he kept bringing up the fact that it could hold like 100 rounds and be somewhat compact. i couldnt really think of something to counter this but i just kept telling him it doesnt matter how much ammo it holds, if the gun itself sucks then it could hold an unlimited amount of ammo and still be a piece of shit. Course in the end i felt kind of dumb arguing with him because he knows nothing about guns so i dont even know why i bothered but this was just to prove him wrong (i obcess over things stupid people say cuz i just want to smack em). Thank you everyone.
