Default Bullshit! Or is it?

In the ad for the Anarchist Handbook vol.2 It boasts that the book has viable plans to make a 9mm sub machine gun!!! Is this bullshit!? The book also has plans and shematics to make "match head pipe bombs" and other crap like that.

It is entirely possible for the amatuer do-it-yourslef-er to construct their own 9mm SMGs. Heck, a bunch of polacks made STENs in bicycle shops and basements during WWII out of scrap metal and pipes. However, this, of course, is highly illegal in the US and is an invitation for the Feds to kill you and your family and burn your house to the ground on national TV.

I'm not too sure about the match head pipe bomb. The theory is that if you have a bunch of strike-anywhere match heads stuffed into a pipe it will blow up if you hit it or throw it at something, like a concussion grenade. I wouldn't try it because it would be too dangerous, and also in violation of the National Firearms Act of 1934 because it would be the un-taxed construction of a Destructive Device.

9mm smg is sure possible to forge,
see smgs during WW2 was simply pipes +
spring + some welding and some mechenism....

I believe you can buy books, in certain stores (not sure if your local chapters wouldsupply these kinds) that tell you about all the different pieces of the gun ("the gun" being the gun that the book is talking about) such as what type of metal they are, size, holes, and so on. So as you CAN build the gun yourself. Hell, a gun isnt exactly SUPER sofisticated. Any mron can construct a safe .22 or something from a visit to a hardware store. So its only logical that with some planning and such, one could come up with plans for a more powerful weapon, or even an eutomatic one.

HOWEVER, the anarchists cookbook is a fucking stupid piece of junk. Version 1, 2, or 100000! Its going to tell you no doubt, in a stupid manner that will have you missing steps and comming out with something, that on the first pull of the trigger will have you missing three fingers!

It says that you can easily obtain all parts from the hardware store with no suspicioun.

SEN, I'm talkin about the Anarchist Handbook, not cookbook...

It's possible but not reccomended. The hardest part for me would be constructing the barrel, chamber and feedramp from what you got to choose from at the local home depot. Take any 9MM round the average bullhead diameter is approximately .355 and the case length is of course 19MM. To effectively and safely construct this you'll need to hone out a barrel within those specs (a little tighter to create optimal opperating pressure) and rifle it to maintain some accuracy (example being 1 to 12 twist). I'm shit out of luck because my dremel can't too all of that.

Unless you were to purchase a barrel from one of the various online stores then manufacter the upper and lower yourself?

Not to mention you would be in violation of federal law by not filing a Form 1 (application to make and register a firearm) with the BATF.

I never read anything from the anarchist crackbook that i'd ever consider attempting to do on my own, this is espically one of them.

That was in reference to the 9MM Luger aka parrabellem or 9X19MM, etc. Considering of course you have 9X17MM,18,19,21,23,25,27MM grrr.

Two easy steps to take if you want to excercise your second amendment rights...

#2 Now you can buy guns!

Ditto with New York City.

You actually can rifle a barrel with nothing but a dremel, but you'll also need a piece of round stock to grind down with the dremel that is the proper size to ream out the rifling in your barrel. I've only seen it done on plastic, so I can't vouch for the feasibility of doing this on a homemade firearm.

Of course, all of this depends on your sheer motivation. If you ask me, a homebrew automatic shotgun would be a lot more useful (given accuracy concerns with an unrifled, offsized barrel) and easier to build (standard piping is available that will accept a 12 gauge shell with no modification).

That, and you can buy shotgun gear in more restricted areas than rifle gear. Don't ask me why...

Thanks for all of the info. Accuracy isn't too important to me. If I were to shoot a target I probably wouldn't be farther than 10 feet away from it. So I'm sure I'd hit at least once.

It's more a issue (since we are refering to a handgun round here) of obtaining optimal barrel operating pressure to drive that bullet out at a desireable velocity (for 9MM 1,000+ fps).

I've heard about individuals who have attempted to manufacter their own firearms and almost literally had the bullet plop out from the end of the muzzle after firing.

Then again if the bore is too tight (like I said approximate .355 bullet head diameter for a 9X19MM round) you can experiance over pressurization causing a KB, damage to the firearm and barrel. Not to mention a potential obstruction risk which can be disasterous.

Pistol cartridges will generate pressures measured in the tens of thousands of pounds per square inch when fired. These pressures want to force the head of the case, and consequently, the breech block mechanism, be it slide, toggle, or bolt, to the rear. As a result, there must be some sorts of mechanism in place to hold the cartridge inside the chamber of the firearm during firing. The engineering problem is compounded by the fact that the high pressure event inside the chamber/barrel only lasts a very short amount of time, not more than .001 seconds, and thus, the mechanism must be designed to use the available energy within a very short, precise interval.

Headspace

Variations in headspace measurements, such that a firearm's headspace is either insufficient or excessive may have the most dramatic effect on firearms chambered for center fire pistol, high power bottlenecked rifle cartridges, etc. When these rounds are touched off, many, many thousands of pounds of pressure are suddenly forcing the base of the cartridge to the rear. Exactly the same amount of pressure is simultaneously exerted in a forward direction, some of it on the bullet, thrusting it down the bore, and the remainder is pressing forward on the interior of the case neck and body. The pressure stretches the forward part of the case tight against the shoulder of the chamber at the same time the rear of the case is moving backward towards the bolt face. If there is sufficiently excessive headspace, the case will stretch too far and rupture. In many instances, a ruptured case will have no ill effects on the firearm or shooter. In some instances, the effects can be catastrophic and result in spontaneous disassembly of the firearm and injury or death to the shooter.

Another danger posed by excessive headspace is the phenomenon known as "slapback." Excessive headspace allows the bolt to have a certain amount of play. Upon firing in this condition, the bolt has room to accelerate rearward and strike the receiver a sharp hard blow. This sort of direct shock may overcome the metallurgy in the bolt and receiver and lead to the often fatal condition known as "bolt in forehead." Another version of slapback occurs with firearms known to have very hard, and consequently very brittle, receivers and bolts, such as low numbered M1903 Springfield rifles. In these instances, the metal has a very strong resistance to a direct push or pull, but a very low resistance to shock. Such a receiver may shatter into grenade like fragments under an assault by a bolt that has had room to accelerate. Additionally, the shock of high speed/high pressure gas entering the receiver ring or chamber from a ruptured case may cause the receiver to shatter with similar results.

It is at best inadvisable to attempt to manufacture one's own headspace gauges unless you are a skilled machinist and gunsmith, and have precision machine tools available. Shimming with sheet steel stock or cellophane tape will not give an accurate reading. Gauges are readily available from supply houses like Brownells, and are not unduly expensive. It cannot be stressed enough that the use of home made or alternative means to measure headspace is playing dice with death.

Headspace is a complex and convoluted issue that is fraught with difficulty and inconsistency. Shooters who fire commercially produced firearms using US manufactured commercial ammunition can have their firearms readily checked for proper headspace by a competent gunsmith. For shooters of military surplus firearms, there are no guarantees, only steps that one can take to minimize risk. As with all firearms related issues, safety, prudence and caution are the bywords with which to live.

We can get further into, BLOWBACK MECHANISM, DELAYED BLOWBACK MECHANISM, SHORT RECOIL MECHANISM, LONG RECOIL MECHANISM, GAS MECHANISM but let's just scratch this idea.

When the firearm is discharged, the bullet is pushed out of the muzzle with great rapidity, and at the same time, the case is pushing the slide back just fast enough to extract and eject the fired case after the pressure has fallen to zero. If the slide were to open too rapidly, while there is still a high pressure situation in the barrel, the case will likely rupture, and powder gas will escape to the rear - a very unpleasant event (common occurance in glocks).

My favorite part was "Pistol cartridges will generate pressures measured in the tens of thousands of pounds per square inch when fired."

And thats a fact.

I've been doing various work on pistols over years. I'm starting to get into rifles a lot now. Yet i'm not qualified to build a firearm from home depot supplies. There is a lot of risk involved.
