If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
Sorry to post on MK5 again, but I checked a few videos and its written what stye each player uses, youll be suprised,
Tae kwan Do, Snake style, karate, tang soon do, crane, tai chi(wich I may be practising, cause we have a Tai Chi center, but its was never mentioned in the paper or city bussines info),lui he bafa(never heard of that), Muai thay(yep even Muay thai), kenpo and others+ weapons, ninja sword, broad sword, and other of course,
now gamers can learn fighting styles, but would be better if they get intrested in it in real life. Its good for me, I dont have to buy videos and watch different performances, Ill learn to find out what form who uses by playng MK5, I cant believe it, I thought I was out of this crap, the game industry has caught me, NO!!!.

Good list, Too bad almost 97% of that does not work in a street fight.

To tell you the truth no fighting style can work well in a fight take it from me. Street fighting is a whole new area. But yes mauy thai/kickboxing/wreslting is the one to choose if you want to become a better fighter for the most part. REMBER in a fight anything goes, that's the problem in mauythai and all the other bullshit anything does not goe it is a sport.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
True insane_blaine, muay thai\wrestling is the closest to help in real life, but a street fight is a street fight, you cant really say that a these styles are usefull cause as you said a street fight is totaly different thing. Maybe the best thing to do is have a light saber hehe, nah there is nothing you can consider usefull even if it may be. Its really hard to say.
Even the first NHB competitions didnt need martial arts, but after a lot of rules were brought in cause the sport wasnt accepted as NHB(were everything goes), when the rules came in you had to learn a few styles to fight cause you couldnt just do anything. Like the UFC, now its not NHB anymopre but more MMA(mixed martial arts)
Yeh street fighter2, but they dont mention the styles fighters use. Like every Japanese combat game. Thast why I mentioned MK5 cause it shows the style or form you use.

call me an idiot but still there is smth usefull in such games.I've lurned acouple of things myself. Most of them is movement: some position changes really work in a matter of safety.

Of course these games(not all) are based on realistic styles. You can learn the same thing by taking a course except that ypou will learnmuch more, liek when I made a post abour BOD Severance. I learned the basics of 2 handed sowrd fighting, cause the game is really realistyc, but of course theres also a lot of fantasy in it.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
TO INSANE BLAINE, AND THE OTHERS IT WILL WORK IN A STREET FIGHT.
I STARTED MARTIAL ARTS INSTRUCTION IN TAE KWON DO (FOR 7 YRS)
THEN WENT ON TO STUDY WITH A MASTER IN NINJITSU WHERE I EARNED 4TH DEGREE BLACK BELT, I ACHIEVED THE INNER STRENGTH AND SELF CONFIDENCE, TO RECOGNIZE A PROBLEM AND DEFEAT THE OPPOSITION, ASSAILENT, ATTACKERS, OPPONENTS USING THE SKILLS AND TRAINING WHICH I BACAME AN EXPERT AT.
AND TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT NINJITSU AS A MARTIAL ART IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF AND USE OF ALL TYPES OF WEAPONS. WHICH ALSO INCLUDES YOUR BOSY AND MIND.
SO DON'T SELL IT SHORT UNTIL YOU HAVE TAKEN THE COMMITTMENT TO DEVOTE YOUR LIFE TO A PARTICULAR TEACHING.
YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
yea i think that if u were fighting some one in a street fight, and they knew a style like karate or tae kwan do, and u knew muay thai or some shit like that..u may kick ass, but if u knew karate or tae kwan do and u versed someone that knew shit, ud kick ass. a fight is a fight. every style is made for self defence, there for, in a street fight any style should be good, but its when u verse some one who knows something better ur in trouble. but then, if u trained just as hard as bruce lee, ull still not be as good as him. u have to be boarn a fighter if u wanna be the best.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
with a street fight you never know. of course if you have studied martial arts you have an advantage, but a lucky punch can finish a fight in a matter of seconds, all skill, years of dedication and strength aside. certain styles work better for different people too, im no expert on martial arts but i have studied a few, and i have a light frame. thats why wen i studied Go-kan-ryu i almost always got booted across the room, but i did alot better in kempo, that style meets my physical ability alot better. i personally cant see how playing a game can teach you how to fight in that style. ive played dragon ball z hyper dimension tons and i still cant fucking throw a final flash or a kamehame-ha

try ninjutsu, not poser ninjutsu, real stuff try www.winjutsi.com its much more versatile and is meant for the real world, for those martial arts educated out there, there arent any stances, you know, like the REAL world.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
I've got four years of Thai under my belt, and the callouses on my shins and elbows to prove it. Muay Thai is very useful to use, as it uses elbows and knees, which are far more powerful weapons than arms, hands or kicks.
Basically, it really doesn't matter what you learn. There are two major things to remember in a fight: Balance and Coolness. All the disiplines teach the cool head, and most teach you that the most important thing is to balance your weight properly. It's no use if you know fancy moves, but fall arse over tit.

Being cool is all you can do. The best option is to run away, and have no scratchs, but if you do have to fight, as long as your calm, and keep balanced, then generally you'll be OK.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
Video games aren't the best teachers. Even if the moves are correct, the characters always perfom them perfectly. You won't.
There's a guy on Gamefaqs that's tried to teach himself all of Maxi's moves from Soul Calibur. He complains because some of them are impossible or impractical (despite the fact that nunchuka aren't really an offensive weapon).
Experience is the most important thing. Whatever style you learn, it's always essential to spar with others and learn how to apply your skills.

In theory thats right, but its somehow wrong. A trained boxer is trained to react to another boxer, once some one gives a move he never saw or heard off, hes off his own game.
Plus, you get into fighting position and the dudes takes out a gun and shoots you. Its totaly another area.
Plus, the mind game is totaly different dude. The mind game man, you have no idea, how this influences. Ypur not in a boxing ring man.

BoomrBillC4 I respect waht you say, but I dont know man, have you ever wathced UFC, 5th degree black belt dude cant take a guy who just entered the tournament with the punches he learned for it. Of course there was a weight difference.
But maybe its the fact cause he wasnt spiritualy ready, thats why I want a shaolin monk to enter one of those competitions and show the world that its real.

Wannabees are a different story. But thats usualy in highschool cases. Sorry to tell you this but MAs(martial art) have their history, but boxing is also an martial art(i know people dont agree). Its just that MAs has a long history and were used to all that old chinese japanese stuff. ANd you didnt answer about the mind game. Or is it cause IM right .There are different cases in life man, not only wannabees punk from highschool.

To the untrained? hate to tell you this but street fighting is a style itself, And it forms experiance buy fighting other people on the street. So a guy that has been in 10 actual fights has a total advantage over a Martial artist that has never been in a real fight in his life. someone that randomly goes around waiting to fight someone - They are what you would call a 'Street fighter'.. I know for a fact a street fighter with 4 years experiance would hold his own to tons of martial artists. [This message has been edited by insane_blaine (edited 06-26-2002).]

Yep experience over technique, and as I said an martial artist is trained to react to attack from his art nothing else. Of course theres some self defense training. But of course, a punching bag doesnt hit back.

thats bullshit, i teach karate in maryland and anyone of my students can fuckin hold their own in a fight. I teach TKD and anyone in a street fight will lose. ppl who choose to street fight are too poor to actually pay lessons on karate and make themselves look cool by making fun of it.

Duh as I said, there is self defense in karate. I have a friend that trains in karate and he once got into a fight with a korean guy who was kinda bugging him, both from the same karate school, they didnt use karate they were both holding each other and both tried to send a left to the head. And dont talk shit, you talk strange for a teacher, control dont forget, control your feelings, BTW Ill be taking karate courses , seriously. And I dont make fun of any martial art, I respect it. Like any other fighting art, Id like to train the Crane form, just by intrest.

Thats what I freekn said at the begining of the subject.
But make no mistake, in karate you dont just learn strikes and kicks, but also weapon use some basic selfe defense techniques, and a lot of bone braking tricks.

Hey nomeea nothing against you, Id like top ask you a question, I talked with a few people and we decided to agree on the fact that it depends how the teacher teahces, if you learn Karate as a sport for points, you wont be able to learn to use in real life, but if your told another(to use for self defense) way but teached the same you will be able to adapt in a street fight, what d you think?

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
Well, I have students that vary in age, and I use different methods with children and adults. With children I use a self-defense approach, where if they get attacked, chances are they will lose because they can not properly use their techniques yet, due to their young age. With adults I teach with a more "seek and destroy" attitude. I teach for them to always be the attacker if they feel threatened. I dont believe in all this self-defense bull usually, only with kids, cause I dont need them to go kick someone in the neck for cutting in line at school. With adults on the other hand, they know where they are threatened and wether or not it is a probably cause to attack. I teach a lot of power kicks. I have classes devoted to strength in their strikes. Main kicks are Jump Round/Side/Straight Back. If you can master these kicks and get them to take down a Bag (weighs 250 pounds) then you will be invincible if you are the attacker and have little chance of being injured.

Ok thx, Ill take karate courses in one month.
Just got prob cause Ive been sitting home for about a year now. Need to come back and do something.
Does it take a lot of energy? You know I dont want to ask anybody around, I made qwuick to forward steps(inplace) and a 360 turn with a kick added 3 times in a row and I started getting tired, hehehe thats shitty. But who knows maybe its normal, is it?.

Re: If you want to learn fighting styles, somehow in a sad way.
well, to let you know it depends on your age. If your like 13 and under, karate will be no problem for you. You are limber enuff and have the energy u need. But any older, you may have a problem with flexibility and stamina. Now, if the karate school you visist if a good one, they will start you off very easy, and you will progress pretty slowly and you will not even notice that the curriculum is getting harder, if the karate school is crap (no mats on the floor and 1 instructor in a bigggg room) then they will probably make you suffer a little more and you will just end up stopping. My karate school is the largest facility on the East Coast in the U.S. we have 7 instructors, 3 dojangs, a lounge, a students lounge, and 4 bathrooms, and 4 changing rooms. But i see you live in Canada so you coming here is out of the question lol. Look for a karate school with 2 do jangs and 4+ instructors and you will be good to go
