Best and Worst of being in military/police?
A question to all military or police people in TOTSE land. ( this does not mean you and your RAINBOW SIX game shadow spawn)
whats the best and worst thing about doing your Job.
I don't mean " killing 2 million Iraquis with just my tooth brush" I mean day to day shit.
Personally:
Worse: Waking up and knowing you've got to take off tyou nice dry kit, pull on your frezzeing Wet kit, and do what ever the shit your bastard sergant wants.
Best: Sitting in a Comm truck, with the rain coming sideways, having a hot brew up, and then seeing a group of other poor bastards marching past.

Re: Best and Worst of being in military/police?
I used to love going on humps and seeing higher ranking people falling out. It made my day to pass a lieutenant or staff sergant that was about to fall over and die when I was barely breathing hard. I also liked going on 5 mile runs at 6am when you could still see your breath. At the time I bitched about it nonstop, but now that I'm out I miss it alot. You never really know what your are capable of until you keep running or working 4 hours after you thought you couldn't go anymore.
The worst stuff was all of the double standards we were having when it came to females. They could get promoted even though they were useless just because of fear of sexual discrimination charges. Not all females were bad, but the ones that were realloy stood out. Another thing that pissed me off was how the military is expected to be politically correct about everything. It took all the fun out of it after a while.

Re: Best and Worst of being in military/police?
Here in the UK, 3 female officers took the Marines to court to demand that they be allowed a chance to attempt the RM selection course. They were told no, because it's the hardest selection course for a line regiment in the world, thirty weeks, and regular 48-72 days without kip, which the women aren't allowed to do. They won on appeal, but all three fell out injured after week 4, cos of the pack weights, and their body structure. Now the Marines have got an injunction which prevents any women doing the same. And, becuase every single marine has go to go on the full 30 week course, and then 12 more to be an officer ( Bollocks, i'm not looking forward to that when i leave uni ) it means we've got not one woman in our ranks.

OK I try to make peace with you and you still want to start shit. A little question why would you give a fuck if silencers are legal or illegal in the United States alot of fucking good it's going to do a 3rd Royal Marine. For your information the 22nd SAS has made the history books and are feared by terrorists around the world, the 3rd Royal Marines who the fuck are they? The Elite: SEAL SAS GIGN GSG-9 Forsvaret Spesialkommandos Sayeret Mat'kal GEK BBE GIS SAT The 3rd Royal Marines don't even rank amongst the elite, AND NEVER WILL! I may not know how it feels first hand but both of my uncles are KSP(Kentucky State) in the United States and I respect them for what they do. Although I would never be a police officer because there are many laws I do not agree with, and the fact that 99.999% of the community hate you and go out of their way to make your life miserable, but when the shit hits the fan guess who they expect to come to their rescue. Re: Best and Worst of being in military/police?
No offense was intended Spawn, was just stating a fact.
I know how good the SAS are, cos one of my instructors is SAS, training becuase of a CMU order ( combined militray units ), but i note that you don't state the SBS are elite. From my own knowldge, and from what both the SAS and my two SBS instructors said, the SBS is at a far higher standard htan the SAS, becuase they do everything that the latter does, but with greater unit independence, higher loads, longer durations, and a much higher fitness level. This was stated SPECIFICALLY by a member of the SAS to my face. The fact that they don't write books, or make TV documenteries, just shows that they know not to be stupid with their security. An elite unit isn't meant to be in the public eye, which the SAS now is. And thats why the gov't is clamping down hard, and making them go back into the shadows.
SEALS but not marines as elite? what the fuck do you think the marines are?? They're your equivilant to the SEALS, and, lets not forget, a high percentage of SEALS rotate through the marine training course, especially the jungle and desert Cadre's. How many of may unit rotate to the US? Fuck all. So we train you, but your better than us?

Re: Best and Worst of being in military/police?
Seals are bad ass, but Marine Force Recon is right up there beside them on the bad-ass-o-meter. They just don't get many publicity or movies and video games made about them, they prefer to keep a low profile.

I personally think women should be given the same chance as any man who applies, but at the same time be treated with the same standards as the men. Women should be carrying the same gear as the men. simply because what good(combat) would she do if she was carrying half of the vital gear and ammunition to complete the mission? Shad
