Re: Muay Thai Boxxing
I've been doing muay thai since i was 16, and we learn a cut down form of it in the Royal Marines ( thier putting me through uni at the moment)
I'd say that if you can get to classes. A LOT of Thai is not really learning the techniques, but hardening up. All kicking is done with the shin bone, not the foot. This means that even if you've done martial arts before, you kick with a diferent area, and to start it hurts like fuck, and can bleed a bit, but that soon stops, and you end up with a far more effective weapon that a foot.
Ignore what tOne says about the clinches. Most street fights are about clinching, despite what happens in films, cos most people can't fight. If you can clinch properly, you go straight through your opponents gaurd, and can swing his face straight onto your knee.
elbows are important to learn as well, as the are by far the most powerful weapon you've got. An elbow to the nose will finish the fight 90% of the time, as it will almsot always lead to a broken nose, and the shock that goes with it will stop pretty much.
muay thai is the BEST street fighting martial art, cos it's not flashy, its not overly complex, you just get in, get it over with, and get away.
Another brilliant ( and tested) tip, given in my marines training, is that if you need to control someone, or make them back off, if your getting a kicking, is to grab their balls and just push the wherte you want them. It's not a fight winner, but if your on the floor, it'll get you up, and them away. or, in a crowd controlsituation, or somewhere you cant get into a fight, grab hold, and push or pull them out of the enviroment. ALWAYS WORKS!
