Re: Whats your favorite silent weapon?
Lets put into perspective the idea of a silent weapon. *Remember that to fully apriciate silenced weapons you must understand that decibels are measured in orders of magnitude like earthquakes; a 70 dB sound is not twice as loud as 35 dB - it is one THOUSAND times as loud.* Light whisper 30 dB Normal Voice 60 dB Jet Engine 100 dB .22 pistol 148 dB 12-ga.Shotgun 156 dB
I have heard that the MP5-SD fired at 30-45 dB and the bolt clicking was louder than the actual report but i can not validate this claim. I do know a few decibel ratings for sniper rifles though. *All rifles firing 7.62/.308 caliber Sako Subsonic ammunition* Rifle/Supressor dB Reading
McMillan M89 122 dB w/AWC Spectrum 90
Remington M-700 126 dB w/Ciener
Vaime SSR MK-2(integral) 135 dB
As you can clearly see the use of silencers is quite impressive but with that lower dB rating comes loss of stopping power along with degradation of accuracy. Therefore a suppressed sniper rifle could be looked apon as an oxymoron but it still has uses for urban situations where the MP5-SD is truely versitile because of the unique work that it was designed for but with a pricetag of around $2,400 and only avalible to Law enforcement it doesnt look like you or I will be able to stock up on one anytime soon.

Re: Whats your favorite silent weapon?
Yes but there are many type other than firearms that are just as a effective like poision on a knife of the tip of a dart but decibal I dont really need to care for BG or knives since they can only prodouce max 30 until they hit something and then that usealy louder.

Ok, you specifically said for delivering poisons or sedatives. The obvious choices would be either A: a hypodermic needle or B: A compressed gas mixture with a respirator type mask. The pros and cons weigh in on the side of the hypo- if you have a fast acting substance. With a compressed gas and face mask, there is too much chance of the victim overpowering you or getting away from you somehow. The single best weapon, barring firearms, has to be a blade, be it a pocketknife or a broadsword. That said, without training you will probably wind up with it inserted in an uncomfortable orifice of your own, no?

Re: Whats your favorite silent weapon?
nah, i heard its myth when people claim they can hear the bolt clicking when firing a silenced firearm
it shouldnt be called a silencer, should be a suppressor. i know .22's are very quiet when silenced, but other guns when silenced just have the pitch of their noise changed, so it doesnt sound like a gunshot
