Hcl in RP
In a procedure for cleaning up phosphorous (basically removing the glue), the writer adds Hcl to his solution and cooks it a few minutes. Another does not. They both boast "really clean" RP. What does the Hcl do? Is this necessary or worthwhile?

Re: Hcl in RP
Acid is just used to help clean out the paper and glues. The one and only time SWIM ever took the time to worry about rp, it was in his experience that the shit that was left to soak overnight in HCl acid came out a helluva lot better. Refluxing in HCl acid for a little while would be the same as soaking overnight.

Re: Hcl in RP
Thank you very much for your quick, most excelent response. I read some earlier posts where some a**hole was talking garbage and slashing you guys, calling this site lame. I find this site multilevel in nature, fielding questions from newbies as well as experienced chemists. I can respect anyone who is willing to take the time to answer the same old tired questions again and again. Thanks
