different precursor same method?
I've never written on any message boards before, so if I'm in the wrong place or doing anything wrong, please help. Here's my question: Hypothetically speaking, if one was making methamphetamine, would the general methodology be the same if using ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, or pure ephedra powder? The latter is the main one I am interested in. Made by gentle distillation of plant material and roots and purified into a fine white powder.

Re: different precursor same method?
With ephedra powder the alkaloids have to be extracted first. But as far as Ephedrine and psuedoephedrine go they are both interchangable.

Could I possibly trouble you for a link or some guidance in regard to how to extract the alkaloids? Thanks for your time. [This message has been edited by gottagogo (edited 12-13-2002).]

Quite the contrary Sivvy, I know by some of your posts that you have limited chemistry knowledge, but you have enthusiasm and desire to learn, which is really all it takes. I will research your advice and see if it is feasible. Thanks.

Re: different precursor same method?
I would reflux the plant material in acidic water, filter, basify, then steam distill the freebases. That way, you can get almost USP quality ephedrine. Rough extractions of plant material would contain other ephedrine/meth like akaloids, giving you a myriad of products after reduction.
