cloral hydrate
can some one give me a link or post the recipie for cloral hydrate, please do not post a link to rhodium and please please do not flame me as this board has a notorious reputation for it. ps anyone know where to get calcium oxide. any reply will be grounds for a life long commitment to this board and its posters in helping out anyway i can. oh and if u know can anyone give me a link to a good mescaline extract if one exists, i have tried many hours to find a good one yet remain unsuccessful

Re: cloral hydrate
Rhodium is about the only place I have ever seen a chloral hydrate synth (but then again I have never really searched). Is there something you dont understand about the synth on rhodium?

Re: cloral hydrate
Yeah that is the only synth that I have ever heard of too, why would you want this anyways? It sounds like you are a serious newbie chemist but this is a ridiculous thing to want to make, unless it is just for the experience.
Calcium oxide can be bought from the pharmacy, it is a pretty common chemical in industry though and is used in huge amounts.

Re: cloral hydrate
thanks for the replies, the synth on that site is pretty easy and i understand it fully except for the bit where u produce the chlorine gas. it sez 2" of chlorine bleach to i tablespoon of ammonia or somethin. what the hell is 2" ? im not sure whether it has something to do with the imperial system or whatever coz i only know metric measurements...

Re: cloral hydrate
oh yeah and its totally jsut for the experience, a friend of mine sez i need to learn to be able to safely control chemical reactions before i move onto bigger and better things, is this good advice or just bull shit?

Re: cloral hydrate
Well you should get experience in all the chemistry you can before you work on something important, your friend gives good advice.
I just about killed myself with a chlorine generator once, they aren't super dangerous, I was just being stupid, so do it outside and it really doesn't matter what amounts of bleach and Hydrochloric acid you use(molar ratio 1:1 would be good) just be aware that it is a very vigorous reaction and you might want to control the addition of acid.
good luck, bee safe.
