HCl gassing of a Non-Polar solution.
Say one has a solution of naptha which has the meth product in there. He has cleaned w/ DH2O. Now he was wondering if he gasses the solution do the crystals form and then he justs evaporates the liquid? Someone told this person that he should filter it... but that seems like a waste considering that final procuct would goto waste being stuck in the filtering paper.
Comments and suggestion would be great.

Re: HCl gassing of a Non-Polar solution.
You can evaporate but then you get impurities, we like t ofilter to avoid this losses on your filter paper should be negligible. Dont' bee cheap. If it is such a small amount use a sintered glass filter.

Re: HCl gassing of a Non-Polar solution.
How large of crystals is swim looking to get? Is it just going to turn the solution to slush? Or is it going to form larger crystals which can be filtered through a shirt? A shirt is easier to seperate the product, and also makes it filter faster.
Thanks for the help thus far.

Re: HCl gassing of a Non-Polar solution.
Make sure you dry the naptha with oven baked MgSO4. That way you won't have loss of product do to water traces. The gas must also be passed through a drying tube filled with MgSO4. Do not overgass. The crystals will be small and granular. Filter out and stir it into boiling toluene. Stir well until boiling ceases and place into freezer. When totally cold, filter out and recrystalize with boiling methanol.

Re: HCl gassing of a Non-Polar solution.
I thought the fact that naphtha was a non-polar solution ment that it couldnt be added w/ water? I mean wouldnt it seperate?

Re: HCl gassing of a Non-Polar solution.
What are you talking about? I said DRY the naptha with the oven baked epsom to get rid of traces of water from the washes, to minimize losses do to solvation of the product.
