Default safrole from juniper ?

so i read u can obtain safrole from distilling juniper foliage.. do you need fresh foliage for more? or would that just add to a water content? how much generally would u need (acknowledging some would have more than others) can berries work? have any of you tried this? after u distill it out would u need to distill it again if you were to say make isafrole?..

-just starting and yes i will be taking college chemistry courses, please play nice you guys have alot of information i could utilize and i would like to share my own with you-
-peace-

Yes you can get safrole from certain species of eastern juniper. I'd guess that the berries wouldn't work, but it doesn't really matter how fresh it was(the less oils evaporating the better, so freeze it) You would steam distill the oil out anyways and it isn't miscible with water so water content doesn't matter.

I'm sure I can speak for all here in saying that no one has investigated this source.

After steam distilling one would fractionally distill to purify before doing an isomerization.

Oh yeah, only take those chemistry courses if they are on the path to your career goals. You will learn more about chemistry if you take this up as a hobby than you will learn in any first and a few second year classes. Trust me on that one..

Juniper Virginia is the species which contains safrole ~10% AND isosafrole ~5% in it's leaf oil.
