Nitric Acid
I don't know that much about Chemistry but i do know a little. Anyways I have a bottle of Nitric Acid chillin up in my room and I don't know what tha fuck to do with it. I jacked it from chemistry class when i went to school. I'm scared to fuck with it cuz i dont know too much about it. Oh yeah I got some Ammonium nitrate too. I know I can make meth but I just don't want to take the chance of doing it all by myself. Anyways can somebody give me some tips on what to do with this Nitric Acid? That would be cool. Oh and I'm a female.

Re: Nitric Acid
You can do all kinds of stuff with nitric acid (HNO3)(that is drug related). Ammonium nitrate is just a salt of nitric acid and ammonia (NH4NO3). Nitric acid can be reacted with an aqeuous ammonia solution until the pH is 7. If you boil off the resulting water the product will be NH4NO3. HNO3 + NH4OH---->NH4NO3 + H2O
On the flip side, you can react NH4NO3 with a base to get you ammonia back. A base like sodium hydroxide (NaOH). You wouls also obtain sodium nitrate (NaNO3), another salt of nitric acid. NH4NO3 + NaOH---->NH3 + H2O + NaNO3
To get your nitric acid back, you can react the salt with sulfuric acid, to obatin you nitric acid, and sodium sulfate. H2SO4 + NaNO3----->HNO3 + Na2SO4
To purify your nitric acid, you can distill it. Nitric acid and water form a constantly boiling azeotrope at 121 deg C., at a purity of 68.5%. SO when distilling you nitric acid to concentrate it, collection of the fraction boiling at 121 will yeild the highest percentage obtainable in water (the azeotrope). The only way to get it truly dry (100% HNO3) is throught the use of drying agents.
As far as drug go, nitric acid can be used for all types of things. If MDA is your target, then one could dip Fe (iron metal) into the nitric acid, creating N2O3 gas. If this gas is pumped through a solution of isosafrole, it nitrosites the isosafrole and forms monomers. Boiling off of the solvent and heating of the goo left followed by treatment with 99% ethanol yeilds psudonitrosite dimer crystals. On just treats these dimer crystals in a solution of alcohol, water, and sodium bicarbonate to obtain 3,4-MDP-2-NP (the nitopropene), which can be reduced directly to MDA.
It can also be used to add 2,5 substitution schemes to benzene or toluene. For instance, lets say one converted a bunch od iodine from tincture, and wanted to make some DOI. With a little work he could pull it off. That nitric acid can be used to treat benzene in an 80% H2SO4 solution to obtain para-nitro-benzene. Reaction of this in 80%H2SO4 with Al yeilds hydroquinone. NaOH is dissolved into some H2SO4 until the solution is pH 7, and the water boiled off to obtain sodium sulfate. The sodium sulfate is reacted with H2SO4 and methanol to form a NaMeSO4 (sodium methyl sulfate) solution, which is reacted with the hydroquinone to yeild 2,5-MeO-benzne. From there you could take your iodine, and react it with CuO to get CuI. Then use that as a catalyst between I2 and the 2,5-MeO-benzene to yeild 2,5-MeO-phenyliodide. This of course is reacted with acetone enolate with UV light from direct sunlight as a catalyst to yeild 2,5-MeO-P2P. This can be reductively aminated in a number of ways to 2,5-DMA, which can be reacted with that I2 to make DOI. Hell, you may be able to run that 2,5-DMA through the para-nitro-benzene synth to yeils DON.
Most of this is probably way over your head. But read up, explore, and search. You'll be amazed at what you can do with such trivial items.
This post also belongs in Lab Tips, which is where I moved it too.......

Re: Nitric Acid
what if you react it with Hg and H2SO4 to get HgCl2....a precursor for MDMA?

You got Hg, H, S, and O. So where did the Cl come from? And does mercury really have any part in that synthesis? It seems to me, at first glance, to be highly unlikely. But I've seen odder sh*t than that - just not getting chlorine from mercury, hydrogen, sulfer and oxygen.

Re: Nitric Acid
In a reality the only useful things one can do with nitric acid are nitrations to make explosive compounds. You cannot make meth with it, and the routes proposed above are more trouble than others that can be used.
However you can make mercuric nitrate to be used in the amalgam reduction of ketone to MDXX compounds or any similar amines.
Meta: most MDXX compounds synthed these days utilize mercury salts in the reductive amination. Don't worry too much as even the most profit motivated chemist removes the mercury liberated during the clean-up(where it goes after is up to them however, ie. down the drain)

Re: Nitric Acid
That is a pretty easy and straightforward synth if you ask me. Besides, when it comes to compounds like DOI and DON, how much trouble is really too much? I'd much rather do an acetone enolate synth instead of making nitroethane and an amine catalyst for condensation and using trivial methods for reduction of the nitropropene (cause god knows I'm not gonna fuck with LAH).
