Dammit, these alcoholic oxidations never cease to curb my curiousity.

I was just reading some shit at Rhodium about it, but it seems to be more of a success story than the early speculations originally on Rhodium. The dude whop wrote about it (tBOC) even posted his fuck-ups along tips to get the reaction to work.

SWIM thinks that the chemicals necessary are easier than hell and cheap to get. An experiment might insue soon. If it works, then no more isomerization, no more expensive wacker, just plain ol alcohol formation with water and H2SO4 from safrole, then gentle oxidation in AcOH with cupric acetate and ammonium nitrate for the ketone.
Easy OTC MD-P2P in just a few hours straight from safrole. Sounds way to good to be true, but there is only one way to find out!

Experimentation in this area would be quite interesting indeed. However it probably isn't too high a priority on the list of most because of low yeilds. OTC angles are good though.

hey I was just looking up some info on this. I found a document that describes the use of 80% H2SO4 and NH2NO3. It looks way too simple to be anything but bullshit. It also wouldn't have the yeild I'm looking for. OTC would be cool if one had access to alot of sassy.

Actually fuck MD-P2P. If the alcohol spontaneously re-arranges to the P1Pol, then this would be a relibale easy otc method for the production of ALPHA and MALPHA, which is probably what tBOC made in that MD-P2Pol post. Notice he says he only takes about 50mg and becomes quite intoxicated, if this were MDMA, this would not be the case (unless he is really skinny).

What tBOC probably actually made, and what would actually be better than MDMA imho was the product of amination with methylamine and MD-P1P was MALPHA. MALPHA is the same as MDMA, except the amine is moved to the first carbon, instead of the second, making it a benzylamine instead of amphetamine (see PiHKAL). In the case of MDMA, the benzylamine counterpart is just like MDMA in effects and duration wise (maybe slightly different), but it is more potent, with 40-60mg suggested dosage by PiHKAL as apposed to the 80-120mg dose suggested by PiHKAL for MDMA (see under Extensions and Commentary under MDA, PiHKAL #100), so you would get double the doses for the same amount of ketone than MD-P2P, there fore making the low yeild part not really a problem (even though tBOC mentions like a 85% yeild to ketone.

So, in short, with forming the alcohol, making sure it re-arranges, oxidising and then running the amalgum, you can't go wrong. This would be better than a wacker by a long shot!

Shit, if one lined everything up ready to go, one could start from safrole and have product in a day. Few hours for ketone formation, and about three-four hours for nitromethane/ketone/amalgum reflux. Or you could do a lazy amalgum, like tBOC did in the post wich would take overnight, but still!
