Re: engine swap from hell
It's definately possible.
Is it going to be easy? NO, nope, no way, not even a little tiny bit.
Both are front wheel drive cars and I can guarantee that there's going to be very little that's going to match up.
After getting the engine and transaxle in(going to most likely change that too) you'll have to get custom built axle shafts since the 2 are going to have different lengths. You're going to have to rig up home made motor mounts. Geting the belt driven components(usually a tight fit on the car they belong to) to fit right is going to be a nasty battle too.
Electronics are going to be another nightmare.
It's basically going to be like nailing jello to a tree. Newer front wheel drive cars don't lend themselves well to swaps, especially between brands. Even newer rwd vehicles are a pain.
If you are in an area that does emissions testing, you'll go through hell. Most places that do the testing will not allow a swap to an older engine. They will allow swaps to a newer engine if the vehicle is in teh same class(based on GVWR)

May I ask why you are wanting to do this swap?

im wanting to do the swap for a simple reason... ford festiva tops at 95 mph peddle on the floor the chevy cavalier tops at 128 and wieghs 2 1/2 times more then the festiva just wanted to see how fast it will go i did some ruff numbers it should do something like 140 ~ 145 with the lower wieght and i have a lot of time on to kill here

Re: engine swap from hell
I wouldn't drive a festiva past 80. They aren't made to. The one that I drove was unstable as hell at about 70. Driving one over 100 mph would be a damn good way to flip about 30 times and eat a dashboard.

Re: engine swap from hell
About all the Festivas I've ever driven were unsafe at any speed. If you've got enough time money and resources any engine swap is possible, hell you quit pussyfootin around and put a jet engine off a 747 in it.

Re: engine swap from hell
The worst wreck I've ever been at was a Festiva that passed a truck while doing around 80 or so. The wind was blowing hard and after they got past the truck and hit the wind again, the car jerked across the median and flipped a shitload. The trucked said they didn't jerk the wheel or anything, they just were changing lanes like normal, then the car went nuts and started flipping.
Small cars like that are great for gas mileage, but that's about it.

Re: engine swap from hell
why the hell would you drive a ford in the first place????
FORDS SUX!!!!!!!
just save money and time and go out and find a car that has close to wat u want then do some simple mods like intercooler, turbo yada yada instead of wasting time and money trying to do an engine swap in something that isn't anywhere near feasible!!!!!
