Get new friends.
Start looking through car magazines until you find one that looks good to you.

Get an ol' land yacht. One of those gas-guzzlers from the 1960s! Pack it w/ bitches and you're all set to cruise.
Personally, I'd opt for an ol' GMC pickup. Like the one on Sanford and son.

Re: hey, um help me out?
as your first car? god no, you don't want something you can't handle. may I suggest looking for a VW beetle Convertable? it's definetely not over powered, so it'll be easy for you to learn how to drive. it's also fitting for a girl, cause it's... ahem, "cute". if you really want something hot (and a classic) you could one-up that and look for a Porsche 356B. they've got more power and look much better, and it's got wonderful handling and balance, but it's still easy enough for a novice to drive.
seriously, for a beginner, you don't want to start with a 350 some-odd Horsepower camaro or vette, or a 178 MPH+ capable ferrari daytona. it's just not feasable.
as for your friends, screw them. life isn't a popularity contest. they're obviously not your type. if your going to drive, worry about driving, not looking good.

Money isn't a big deal?
Buy a Honda S2000, with the removable hardtop and the nice stereo. That's the American equivalent of a European roadster.

Re: hey, um help me out?
American equivalent???? WTF are you talking about? S2000 is as Japanese as vending machine underwear.
Muscle car: 67-68 Camaro like the Penske camaros Girl car:Golf cabriolet(convertible) make sure you get the teddybear rims for it! Import:Old honda civic(these look pretty cool especially done up) European:A Fiat spider/Porche 924/or a Spitfire (all of these will be a bitch to restore and may have problems but they are damn nice)
Or a pet fave that has major cool factor is the 68-69 bronco.
A girl driving one of these would be very cool indeed. Yet I'd have to shoot her down cause her daddy paid for it. But I'd give her credit if she did alot of work herself.

theta, as knowledgable you are about video games, you don't know shit about cars. do some homewrok first. Honda is Japanese. it's also a new model, although nice.

Re: hey, um help me out?
Yes, Honda is a Japanese company. No shit. The S2000 is one of the few Hondas, though, that's actually the same in America and Japan. It's manufactured in the same Japanese plant as the NSX, unlike most of Honda/Acura's stateside models that are built domestically. Hell--Acura, like Datsun, is just an American name for a Japanese car.
Ford may be an American company, but the present-day Falcon is certainly not American. Get my point?
The truth is, no American company knows how to make a roadster worth a damn. Don't even mention that abominable new T-Bird. Yuck. We have to rely on imports, and the S2000 or the Miata are the closest thing to a true roadster we can get. The European cars are all super-expensive BMW or Mercedes things. (Lotus doesn't count. Handmade cars simply aren't part of the mainstream market.)
My point was simply that the S2000 embodies much of what makes a roadster what it is: A small, highly maneuverable drop-top with a finely tuned small engine.
Shit, guys. You know me better than that.

Re: hey, um help me out?
huh... I see what you mean.
I take my last statement back.
although, the BMW Z3 and Porsche boxter aren't that expensive (in contrast to other euro-roadsters)
oh, yes;
Cheezdip, I've just thought of something: try looking for a 1970's porsche 914/6. inexpensive, and quite snappy little things, they're mid-engined (which makes for good handling) and is not overpowered. it's only got about 95 HP, but it weighs only about 1800 ibs, so it can still haul ass if you know how to drive it. it's still quite easy to drive slowly, though, and it's the best way to learn how to drive a stick. also, this'll give your dad a chance to fix it up, cause you'll probably find one in rough condition.
a little background: porsche introduced the 914 as a sports car anyone could afford. sure enough, teenagers of the day were able to buy it, due to the small, lightweight engine and size, and the small amount of power. racing versions with over 130 HP were developed, but you had to be a dedicated racer to get one. however, they weren't too popular, because the body style didn't fit with the styles of the day (read: they thought it was ugly). porsche lovers didn't like it because it was so inexpensive and the complete opposite of what porsche was SUPPOSED to be, and thus it didn't sell well.
to this day, however, upon close inspection by someone who knows his shit, it's found to be highly underrated. it's not that ugly, in fact you could say it's "cute". it's easy to modify, with it's volkswagen engine, and has great balance and handling. it's also rear drive, a definete plus.
here's a link: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7124/914.htm
thank you.

Re: hey, um help me out?
wow, very few people seem to realize that she mentioned a "CLASSIC". a honda s2000 is nowhere near classic. now cheez, if it's an old american classic muscle car that you're looking for, here's a short list: pontiac gto " grand prix ford mustang " torino (gt, preferably) " thunderbird, '65 and up " maverick (maybe) chevy camaro " chevelle " malibu " impala (with the 400(?) ci engine) dodge charger " challenger and of course the volks beetle would be cool, too. just don't get a ford fairmont. they're ugly. that's just a short list of early american muscle (and potentially muscle) cars. these are just ones that i came up with off the top of my head, so good luck, and like some of the other people said, don't get something you can't handle. trust me. i've had five wrecks in 2 years because i drive fast cars.

good point. just buy whatever looks good to you, provided it doesn't have too much power that'll overwhelm you too quickly. [This message has been edited by Township Rebellion (edited 12-13-2002).]

Re: hey, um help me out?
If money is truly no object and you want a prestige car, go for the True Hemi Cudda, not just a barracuda with hemi heads and badging, but a true Hemi, with matching serial #s. For that kind of car you're looking at around 65,000 minimum for a nice collectors condition car. Myself though, I would go for a GTO judge, Or maybe A Hurst Olds, A superbird if ya just wanna get ridiculous.

Now you're talking. They are just ugly enough to be cool, and make great sleepers. All right you ricers watch out for cheezzdipp in her 340 powered pacer!...LOL But seriously I like the 69 GTO Judge and 70 Chevelle LS6, but that may not be what you like. Find something you think looks tough and go with it, to hell with what your so-called friends think. If you feel you need to impress them that much maybe you should find some who don't give a shit if you drive a righteous car. Re: hey, um help me out?
If money is not a problem then get a porche 911 hardtop (cause convertibles leak), put low profile tires on it, REALLY nice mags, a race cam (to give it a slow idle), a big exhaust, a good sound system, any body kits that you can find and give it a slick custom paint job, you know with decals down the side and all, you don't want just one color.
your friends will love it!
But by the sounds of it, your friends are dicks and you should not care what they think!

Re: hey, um help me out?
and about the making you feel stupid, find out everithing you can about the car you finally choose, including what size engine, any mods made to it, top speed, spark plug size, everithing you can, and memorise it , don't tell them about it, put a set of those airhorns that play "dukes of hazzard" or "lakukooracha" in it, rock up to school one day driving your new car blasting your airhorns, and answer any questions they may have in full, and when they have finished, tell them more. If you know more about the car than they do, it will impress them! They will feel kinda dumb and wonder how you know all of this, but it will impress them.
But yet again I stand by what I said previously: your friends sound like DICKS!
