Default dodgey turbo conversion, would it work???

a mate of mine was telling me how his friend strapped a leaf blower to the air intake of his lawn-mower as a kind of dodgey turbo conversion. What do u guys think about doing this on a car? forced air induction or something. what are u'r opinions, ideas??

Are you sure you arent from southern alabama? That sounds like it could add some boost but would totaly screw up your fuel to air ratio there fore making your car run like crap besides thats just plane stupid!

It wouldn't be a turbo since it wasn't using the exhaust to create boost.

I've heard alot of people say they did this and some of them even say they used it at a drag strip and go awesome times. They're usually full of shit though. I was reading about ram air systems one time and I forget teh exact number, but at 100 mph the amount of extra air that you get equals under a pound of boost. Even if you got a leaf blower that got blew air at 200 mph, you'd still have under 2 pounds of boost, which really wouldn't do anything for you. It would most likely make your engine run a little bit lean, unless you did something to adjust he fuel. Plus if you set it up before your air filter, you'd blow the air filter all to shit or you'd blow the dirt trapped in the filter the rest of the way through. If you took the filter off, you'd blow dirt into your engine. Neither way is good. If you set up an airfilter before the leaf blower, you'd take up so much room it wouldn't really be worth it.

This is pretty much a mechanical urban legend. I've always heard it as a friend's friend/cousin/uncle/neighbor.

if you get a strong enough leaf blower hook it straight up to your intake and turn your fuel jet about 2 truns clockways it will be a bitch to get running but would give you boost

Well im not sure it would work unless you have a real long extention cord for your leaf blower, Jk. But even with a gas powered one it would have to spin faster than the engine many times over, you would have to ajust fuel air ratios, compresstion ratios and it most likey wont be a legal blower, also the speed at wich it turns wont ajust with engine rpm also a problem all and all a bad idea.
