Default whoopee!!!!!!!!

im halfway to my goal price for a new Bronco. ive got $3500.00 in the credit union, i figure $7k is a good price for a 66-72 bronco in good rust-free rebuildable condition. i've been dreaming of completely rebuilding one for years, and i think i've nailed down every mod im going to perform. its going to have to be a body off rebuild, and im thinking of:

  • 35 boggers w/ black rockcrawler street locks
  • Currie 9+ rear-end 4.56 31 spline alloy full floating w/ discs & ox locker
  • d44 front-end 4.56 31 spline alloy full floating w/ discs & ox locker + ctm uni joints
  • high-angle driveline 1-ton (i'm only about 1 1/2hrs from the shop
  • dana20 transfer case w/extreme duty output shaft
  • balanced & bluprinted Ford 351W, undecided on fuel injection VS the new Holley Truck Avenger carburetor
  • NV 4500 5 speed tranny
  • 3 1/2" system 9 extreme travel suspension lift
  • 3 body lift for tire/fender clearance
  • Duff stage 3 tubular radius arms in place of stock radius arms, for increased travel and the clearance for better turning radius
  • Duff Long link traction bars
  • Duff stage 2 rear shock mounts for increased rear suspension travel
  • Protofab prerunner heavy duty front winch bumper with corner guards, rear hd bumper w/ corner guards, tire & gas can racks
  • underhood welder, high output alternator and air compressor
  • Roadster style half-door inserts
  • custom 6pt cage following Hummer profile
  • rhinolining
  • 4 core radiator
  • dual optima red-tops
  • waterproof wiring harness
  • snorkel (undecided)
  • hydraulic winch
  • 23 gallon main tank upgrade and 12 gallon aux upgrade
  • various underside skidplates (all).

and various other small pieces in time... but its late, im sure i missed a few, any suggestions? ive never really seen 4x advice in this forum....

Sounds like you know exactly what you want. I have a question though. Why spend $7000 on the truck then piece together the rest when you can afford it? Why not spend a grand on a shitty truck(since you're replacing almost everything anyways) then spend the $6000 on your list.

One thing about the list though, I like the milemarker winches in theory, but haven't heard anyone that owns one say anything good about them. I hope your not basing your choices off the opinions of magazines. Remember their main concern is advertising, so they rarely tell the complete truth. Are you building it for rock crawling, mudding, or just street? Do you still need to be able to tow with it? Are you going to take it on long trips?
http://www.rockcrawler.com/ might be of more help to you.

i'm actually building it to be all purpose, i want to be able to crawl, but i'm not going to build a buggy. i just want to build a rig that can handle anything. thats why i'm going with the 3 1/2" lift and 35" tires instead of a full on crawling setup and 44's.
the reason i'm planning on spending 7k is that i want to start off with something i don't have to dump a bunch of money into to fix the things that are already wrong with a 1k rig. i have a 72 that i bought for 2k, dumping 5k into it wouldn't bring it up par with some of the rigs i've seen for 7k. i'd have to replace most of the sheetmetal, the floor, inner fenerwells... aaahhh so much crap, i don't want to get started on that end of it, you get my point. it'll be a parts source. the mods im planning on are primarily chassis/drivetrain mods, i'd rather start building on a good platform. i'll also be able to sell all of the stuff im replacing if it's in good condition.
the reason i'm opting for a hydraulic winch is that i've got a good buddy that crawls that swears by them, and nobody else i know has owned and used both to compare.
it'll be going on many long trips, hence the NV4500 5spd .
flat black paint... mmmmmmm

I would keep a second set of tamer, maybe smaller tires mounted up for long trips. Something like swampers will be noisy as hell and walk all over the road. Plus alot of road use wears them out pretty quick. Use some cheap tires for the long trips and use the more expensive swampers for the fun stuff.

thats a good idea, i've thought about keeping 2 sets of tires, a set of bfg at's for the highway and then the set of boggers for when i hit the trail. but if i was going to drive down to moab, or somewhere similiar that would take a long highway drive to get to the fun stuff, how much hassle is it to truck an extra set of tires/wheels with me wherever i go. drive all day on the bfg's, get to the trail, switch over to the boggers, put the street tires wherever i had the boggers, ride trail, then switch back over when i leave. where am i going to put the extra set? i thought about maybe fabricating some mounts on top of the cage for 4 tires, but im unsure how that would work out, and i've never seen it. i've seen baja trucks with a couple of extra tires mounted in various places, but im concerned about the weight 4 tires/rims might add to top. might not be safe to be that top heavy on a rough trail. finding a way to mount them to the back could be a good idea, but that would ruin my departure angle. anyway, might just have to bite the bullet and put up with the road noise and premature wear. its not going to be a daily driver anyway, just a fun rig, so maybe it wouldn't be all that bad.
