Re: solar/wind power
Raf, I used to live in SA so i have a fair idea on what you wish to achieve. As for the solar pannels, you can get them very cheap second hand from solor hot water systems. Try an installer, he should have plenty of scrap systems, Also you will need a nice bank of batterys and a 12-240v inverter, plus a regulator.
You shouldn't need any wind generation for your system as if the solar is done right you will have ample power to do what you want. Also a big wind prop is a bit too obvious.

Re: solar/wind power
heheh yeah... do you see the irony? converting natural light into artificial light is alot more effective for growing tomatoes.
thanks man, ill have a look into it. One thing I was worried bout was having to buy bout 10 panels to be able to power the globe but then again I never really paid that much attention in science last year dammit. Would I have to get loads of panels or just one or two? Thnx.

Re: solar/wind power
What exactly are you planning to grow? If its marijuana, then ask this in better living through chemistry. They know what their talking about. If your ont growing bhudda, then why the fuck would you need that much light?

Re: solar/wind power
Solar Panals are expensive. The ones that conver light direactly into electrical energy.Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy solar panals? I live in the desert so theres planty of sunshine. I do need a power source for my treehouse/lab which is a treehouse used as a lab. I don't feel like running wireing up a tree. So I would perfer solar panals. At lest the energy generated by it is free and it should pay for itself.

Re: solar/wind power
My idea for any kind of wind-powered machine that works like a windmill or anything like that, hydro power plant, anything that turns on an axle, would be to just have a law X where each point is sort of like a "sail" that gets blown around in circles, and is connected to an axle to power something. diid you understand any of that?

O
The X representing the wind part, maybe, this be the only part above your house, the | representing an axle, and the O representing what you are turning
