Opening laundry mat washing machines?
Does anybody know how to pick the locks on the waching machines at laundry mats. They mostly use Abloy locks, which take a key that is sort of half moon shaped with little nubbs protruding along its key tip. I have looked everywhere for a place that sells a pick for this paticular lock and I have spent hours trying to create one myself with no luck. It is driving me crazy! There has got to be something!

Hey Weasel, where's the problem?
The guy has a need, it's that what totse is for?
At least it's not some stupid rant. Yeah, maybe he wants to steal from a washing machine or maybe just get a free wash. Who cares.
Sorry drdoom, I'm new to lock picking (tooling some right now) so I can't help. Maybe someone else will.

Re: Opening laundry mat washing machines?
Like many locks, you'll have to fashion a way to keep tension on it. This can be solved by bending a precision screwdriver (the smallest flathead) 90 degrees. Bend it slowly, and get a very high quality screwdriver, because the cheap ones break.
Now, from the sound of it, the lock your beating is a tubular lock. Keeping tension on it, this lock can be beat with an unbent jumbo paperclip. Keep light to moderate tension on the lock, and push the pins down. If the lock suddenly gives way, you've accomplished the beating of a tubular lock.
This type is used on other things like alarm box control panels, vending machines, gun cabinets, and high security lock boxes. Pretty much anywhere with a high security risk, which is why I figured out to pick it quite quickly...
Have a nice day...

Re: Opening laundry mat washing machines?
With the tech you just decribed it could take days to open the lock. Unless you are a seasoned lockpick [This message has been edited by Thoughtmonger (edited 10-14-2002).]

Re: Opening laundry mat washing machines?
You should know that proper tools work best. You don't have a tubular pick?? If you are familiar with its construction you could make a makeshift with tubing of proper dia., rubberbands, and some hair pins(the flat kind).
What school did you train ,Mixtur?

Re: Opening laundry mat washing machines?
The proper tools do work best, but, with a little practice you can improvise. In my state you have to be a locksmith to buy the stuff. But he might not be a locksmith, which is why I told him how to beat it with improvised tools.
I trained at Colorado Locksmith College.
