Go to your local Sports Authority or whatever. In the hunting section, there should be deer urine. Soak the area in that. It should get them away fast.

I assume you've tried one of those sonic repellers? The kind that's supposed to get rid of mice and cockroaches and other vermin. Bats are big on using those ears, a sonic repeller should drive them crazy.

Why would you want to get rid of bats? They don't hurt you and they eat all sorts of bugs.

Its cause these bats have a chance of having rabies. Cause they fly right up as to attack, then when they get right in front of us, do like a flip and fly back.

No kidding? The bats here in Texas seem to do that for some reason. I think they are just homin in on you with the sonar, and then realize they are about to slam nto you and your not a bug, they pull out.

I was just joking with the bat repellant thing. I searched google but didn't find anything. Sonic repellers should do it, but they aren't battery-powered, they are meant for indoor use. I'm sure your not the only one who's ever had a problem with bats, there's gotta be something for them.

I'm not sure if there is a battery operated one of those things or not, but the one we have in our house covers 2000 square feet, can't you even run an electrical cord near to where they are? You should only have to leave the thing there for a couple of weeks at the most.

could try get some predators that eat bats to live in the area. Never tried it on bats but it works on lots of other wild animals you want to get rid of.

The behavior you're describing doesn't sound like rabid bats. Bats that are rabid usually are full-grown and flopping around on the ground. If your pets pick up a bat, then more than likely they picked it up off the ground, and it has a chance of being rabid, unless it's a cat, they catch them at the openings of their homes. Bats don't harm anything and if they're insect eating species (more than likely) then they eat their weight in mosquitos each night, that's alot of mosquitos. They also eat other flying insects. But them flying towards you and then flipping backwards is probably just them showing off, I did a study on bats one time and the juvenilles would often try to out-stunt each other. Once they realize you're a person they probably just scoot away, or else they continue showing off. lol But unless you're finding bats on the ground, or colliding into things, then they're probably not sick. Bats really don't get rabies very often, and even if they did they're not going to hunt you down and bite you. Also if you see a baby bat on the ground, I wouldn't play with it, but it probably doesn't have rabies either, the babies fall onto the ground alot. If you're desperate to get rid of them, try using a sonic repellent. Really it's silly to run off bats though, think of all the people who make bat houses, and here you're running off yours.

My friend had a bat problem in a hut he sleeps near his cottage. Even though it isn't to likely, you should get a rabies shot if you do get bitten. The main problem he had with them is they shit all over the place, and, like cats, theyre shit is actually a biohazard, and very damaging to ones health. Anyway, he used ammonia, they hate the smell. Just plant a couple of open bottles of it around the area.

I swear that i read somewhere on a site like darwinawards.com about a bloke who threw an m-200 or some other huge firework into a bat nest and the bats rolled it out of there nest and it went off, the shrapnel from it hit this guy in one of his eyes and blinded him.

Don't underestimate the pigeons. Their stealthy ways of simply just taking over cities is exemplery - i mean just look at central london.

I am far too short of time at the moment to write everything I learned 5 years ago about BATS when my wife, two little girls, and myself had to go through $9600.00 worth of shots (at our expense thanks to the idiots at our public health department disposing of the specimen) do to a possible exposure to rabies. No one in our home was scratched or bitten, however we were exposed. My information comes directly from the head of the infectious disease department at the CDC.

Some important things you should know are that bats are the #1 carrier of rabies in the United States (and believe it or not cows are second). Of the bats I have killed at my home, seven have tested positive for rabies.

A person does not have to be bitten to contract the virus as it can be transferred through a scratch, open wound or simply through the air that comes in contact with any mucus membrane (eyes, mouth, nose, lungs, etc).

The virus is transferred by coming in contact with bat saliva, blood, urine, or droppings. A rabid bat can seem normal and unless the bat's rabies is very advanced, there is no way to tell if it has the disease with out sending it to a lab and having it's brain tested. However the mere fact that the bats are coming in such close proximity to humans, as you describe (which is not normal behavior for bats) they should be considered suspect. Any time a bat is found in the same room as a human that is; an infant, asleep, intoxicated, incapacitated, mentally diffective or several other circumstances, that bat needs to be sent to a health forensic lab to be tested for the rabies virus, even if there is no known exposure.

Rabies is nothing to take chances with since it is an automatic death sentence (there has only been one known case in history of a human surviving).

If you wish to telephone me I will be happy to share my knowledge with you. Email me for my phone number.

Proceed with extreme caution.

sincerely.

P.S. With all due respect, it would be a deadly mistake to assume that if the bat does not "look sick" that it is free of rabies.

Not all of the rabid bats that I killed were full-grown and NONE of them were flopping around on the ground. For that matter I found no bats on the ground at all.

The seven that tested rabid were flying just fine (skillful, fast and hard to shoot), they never collided with anything.

Most people don't know this but bats are not blind, they see as well as humans do.

Don't take any chances, or listen to old wives tails. Go directly to the CDC for your information. As I learned the hard way, even local health departments are not properly informed. I taught them much, at my expense. I still feel the shots we had to take. The immune globulin injection syringe itself was the size of a roll of nickels (looked like quarters) and the rabies vaccine was no picnic either, week after week.

I would rather pass a car on a curve at night with my headlights off, than mess with bats.
